My front audio won't work

Are you sure that installed the latest audio driver and configured the audio output correctly? Is the jack connected to the right header (HD vs AC'97 on older system)?

I have the latest drivers, and i have tried pluging it in through hd and ac'97 and neither works

By "muted" I mean the volume is set to zero.

 

But if your rear audio works but not the front, then it's either the header on motherboard is damaged or the case cable is faulty.

just to confirm, hd audio/ac 97 is suppose to go into f audio?

Choose whichever fits your system configuration.

But if you can already hear some static noise or else, then the physical connection should be fine.
