Help taking the right decision

After 1 month of trying 240hz with my Acer XF250Q I feel like this display has more input lag than my previous monitor (Asus VG248QE) or at least I feel like that and I'm thinking now on what will be my next step as I'm not comfortable with this display. I guess my problem should not be related to my graphics card or PC components as I have the following:
 

i5 9600K at stock

Asus Prime Z390-A

16GB DDR4 3200Mhz

Msi RTX 2070 Armor OC

EVGA 750 G2

Right now my thoughts are rather get a new monitor (not sure if 1080p 240hz or 2K 144hz) or upgrade my graphics card and wait to upgrade the monitor later. I enjoy playing FPS like COD, Battlefield, PUBG, CS:GO, Overwatch and other titles.

 

Have you guys experienced something similar or heard about someone who has this monitor and same thoughts? I also understand that I got what I paid for and cannot ask for performance beyond that budget, but I'm willing to go over the budget for a display that I get comfortable with
