System use: UTM/FW

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97N

CPU: I7-4770K

Heatsink: Reeven Brontes (my first non-Noctua heatsink in over a decade)

I'm dealing with something that I've not seen since having a peltier fail while using such with a Barton 3200+ --> Prime95 blend causing temps to max out in no time at the stock clocks...  Googling around I've noticed a wealth of the i7-4770K reviews out there had AIDA64 used for stress/stability/thermal stress testing.  This chip runs AIDA64's stability test just fine at the stock clocks.  OC'd slightly via the turbo ratios it runs fine (60-70C on any of the four cores with all OC'd to 4.0 GHz).

OC'd via the turbo ratios (42, 42, 40, 40) most benchmark results put this CPU neck and neck with the i7-4790K.  My concern, though, is the temps when doing Prime95.  If you had an i7-4790 available to you would you drop that into this board if it were going to be running 24/7 or would you grab a shinny new Noctua (with my case I'd have to get the C14S) to use with the i7-4770K?  Outside of the OC ability of the i7-4770K what's the compelling argument(s) for it?

Devil's canyon got improved tim, so thermals would be better at the same clocks and voltage. Although, generally you can undervolt haswell to good effect, try that first

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Yeah best I could get while keeping 42, 42, 40, and 40 for the turbo ratios was a 0.025V drop to 1.175V on the Vcore.  Definitely made an improvement temperature wise as the board, with the Vcore set to Auto, decided 1.2V was needed at all times when boosting.  Thanks for the suggestion ?.

Will swap out to the DC i7-4790 and see if I prefer that before running out and getting a Noctua C14S.
