Hi guys

I currently daily drive a OnePlus 5 and I'm thinking of upgrading.

I have found a Honor View 20 for 349 and I get 10% student discount on top of that.

My only concern is that I don't believe that is a 5G phone and it seems to be the craze at the moment. My question is, is 5G viable at the minute or will it be similar to 4G and take a good few years for it to properly be worth it. Personally I am fine with 4G speeds

Thanks

I'd recommend a used LG phone from personal experience. For example the LG V30 is one of the best phones of 2017 for about 270 on Amazon

My opinion, 5G is not worth it right now. It's still very new tech and the rollout as it stands is VERY limited. Besides, even if you got a 5G phone today there will be newer generations of modems in the coming years that'll be better suited for when 5G is fully implemented. As you said yourself, 4G LTE is good enough for most people.

As to the phone itself, why are you upgrading? What kinds of things are looking for in your new phone that your current phone doesn't have? I can better recommend one if I knew what you were after in your new device.

Thanks for the reply!

With my current phone it's mainly storage that's my issue and I'd like something more modern. And with the honor being such a great deal for that price point it seems like a great choice. I will donate the OnePlus to my mum once I've setup the new one

You need to reconsider you priorities if you are looking at the Honor View 20 just for 5G capability

No I'm not looking at it for 5G, I was just wondering if. 5G was worth it at this current time and it seems that it is not. The View 20 seems to be a great deal for the price.

I honestly couldn't care less about 5G

It doesn't make the phone itself any faster

I'm sane and dont have a phone with a 4K screen, let alone wanting 4K playback on a 6" screen

And certainly could do away with higher battery consumption and phone bills

I totally agree, I find that in the UK at least there's still many places I go that don't have 4G coverage yet. 4G is plenty fast enough when it's at a good connection anyways!
