Hi, so I'm thinking about building my first gaming pc and I settled on getting a RTX 2070 SUPER graphics card and Ryzen 7 3700x cpu. Seeing as I don't really want to upgrade in at least 5-6 years, do you think I can get away with a cheaper cpu or is it worth the investment? Also, can you please recommend a good motherboard and psu, I was thinking of getting the ASUS Strix x470-F, but I'm not sure.

I think people vastly over estimate the adoption of software to take advantage of new hardware...

We have had DX12 for ages but a lot of that relies on the game developers, who would rather stick with an engine they know works instead, so we are still on DX11 most of the time.

Your typical 6/12 is going to last for quite a while, and 8/16 will be kicking around in 10 years.

Hardware is fast to grow but software....not so much.

We're just now at the limits of 4/4 and touching on the limits of 4/8....and that's a decade later.

A 6/12 still has a lot left in the tank.

That said, always buy the best you can afford or you end up upgrading more than you need to
