Recommend home switch

Rogue-72-

Hi all

Hoping someone can recommend a switch for my home network.

Usage is primarily gaming/ streaming netflix etc

I want to have ~10 wired ports

My internet is crappy, but hopefully will have a fibre to the node setup within the next couple of years.

Thinking of getting a Nighthawk XR300 or 500 - Does this just plug into a switch using up one of the ports, or is there a special port for a router?

Thinking it would be good to have a rackmounted switch in a rack bolted to the wall in the garage?

Am I an idiot? I just want something fairly bulletproof/futureproof?

Thanks for any input :)

If you want 10 ports then a home wireless router will not work for you, they simply don't have enough ports. (the one you mentioned only has 4 ports)

Get a netgear proSAFE 16 port switch for the cheap but good option, but really any gigabit switch will work for most people in the home, 10gig is overkill for a home network at the moment, but if you have the money to spare it's worth it just in case you want 10 gig in the future.

Don't get a router to use as a switch, get a standalone switch that does this one job and you will have a reliable network.
