PIA based in USA

I saw the video of Linus announcing switching to PIA. He mentioned that he left ? tunnelbear ? , to change over to PIA, and one of the reasons was because of tunnelbear now being based out of the USA.

PIA is based out of the USA, so was this not that much of a problem? I understand they are sponsors, now, as well. Also I've been using PIA for 2 years, but have been curious about being USA based.

Thing with VPNs is that if ur just using it to get around geolocking then any VPN will do really. However if u truly want privacy and security, u want a VPN based outside the 3,5,9 Eyes alliance member countries. Of which the USA is a member.

Basically Laws in these countries allow agencies to force VPNs to cooperate in any surveillance, and countries within the alliance share that info.

So PIA (USA) and tunnel bear (Canada) are both no good in that respect. NordVPN is fine, as is ExpressVPN as they are located in Panama and British Virgin Islands respectively.

but I was mainly curious why Linus said they were switching away from a provider since they were going to be based out of the USA, only to choose another that Is based in the USA.
