Cool this laptop?

Go to solution Solved by Bitter,

Repaste the CPU, clean the dust out of the heat sink and the fan.

Okay so long story short my gaming computer is going to be shipped overseas to my new crib. Coming from America to S. Korea of all places. The estimated shipping time is going to be 56 whole days I would be without my gaming computer. So I'm packing up my xbox, nintendo switch, and my oldish laptop that I upgraded with a small ssd I had laying around. But the main problem with this laptop: it gets hot. I mean real hot.

I can't do major games on it as it's only got a i7-3612QM processor and 8gb of ram. No graphics card. No nothing. All I want to do is play on minecraft and talk to friends on discord. But holy I can't do even that. Just doing multitasking on the laptop such as 4 tabs open on firefox has got my at 75 degrees Celsius with a 5% load. What kind of cooling is that?

Even trying to play games like minecraft at the lowest settings basically kills my computer. I remember years ago trying to use this laptop and it shut down several times due to overheating. All I need to do is keep it cool and not overheat while doing simple tasks or playing simple games.

I've looked up several coolers that I am thinking about but I don't want to go and waste $25-$50 on some cooler that isn't going to help me at all. I have one exhaust area on the side of the laptop and it's constantly trying to blow air out of the laptop but man is it bad at it. Any recommendations would be great such as coolers or things to do with my laptop that could make it better.

It's some Dell Inspiron btw if that matters. The laptop kinda sucks I know. Thinking about getting another laptop on the cheaper end maybe 300-400 if need be.

I'll be honest with you. I saw the first one and I giggled. I was like, NAH there's no way something silly like that would actually help me right now.

Then I thought about it and I was like fuck it. I got some paste upstairs and some time. I went and found a teardown of the laptop and got to it.

I put some new paste on there and cleaned out the fan and god damn it y'all were right. Minecraft pulling me up to 80 after even bumping up my settings. The fan doesn't spin any faster but it's still working a lot better. I should've just thought of that after I even went in and replaced the hdd with an ssd but I guess we all gotta be stupid sometimes.
