Update:

I am definetly getting this display:

That old intro ❤️ ^^

It may be 5 years old, but it is waaaay better than anyting i ever had, so i'm sure i'll have a great time with it.

And I was able to negotiate a price of 90€, so about 100USD, down from 120€, and i think thats a good deal for a 60Hz 4K G-Sync Monitor.

But feel free to let me know if you think otherwise for any reason (preferably before Friday, then I'll pick it up)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello dear community ?

I am planning on getting a new (second hand) display.

What I found so far I consider buying are either a

Acer Predator XB280HK 4K

G-sync, 60hz

For 120€

Or a

AOC G2460PG FHD

G-sync, 144hz

For 199€

My system specs:

R5 3600

Rtx 2070

16gb ram

I already have a 60hz WQHD for media consumption (terrible tearing when gaming), and I am still gaming on a 10+yo 75hz LG LCD (less tearing, still no great experience)

I mostly play singleplayer RPGs like the Witcher, the elder scrolls, fallout...

Occasionally some day-z, pubg etc with my friends.

When I play I do it for my own fun, not to be competitive. I couldn't care less about winning or losing a match (pubg for example) so 144hz for me would have less to do with any competitive advantage and more with the smoothness. But I guess g-sync in general should be a good experience, at 60hz and 144hz.

Any advice and all your critical thoughts are highly appreciated.

Just so you're aware, FHD = 1080p, which is 1/4 the resolution of 4K.

If you're playing RPGs, you won't gain a ton by having 144hz. I'd personally go for the 4K monitor because that's way more screen real estate for when you're not gaming, and when gaming you can drop it down to 1440p or 1080p without much issue in case you find yourself dropping below 60FPS.

Sure 144hz+ is nice, but I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're playing games like CS:GO or some other FPS competitively.

Exactly this was my thinking too, it's just most of my friends are tryhards, and they keep "recommending" (more like "144 or die" ?) 144hz to me.

Do you, by any chance, know if the Acer 4k display is any good?

Thank you so much for the quick response ?

I sincerely thank you again for helping me out and make me feel confident about my choice, as i am not that much into the display thematics.

The bezels are a little bit thicc, brightness isn't incredible, but shouldn't be an issue, and the contrast ratio is a bit poor. Viewing angles are what you'd expect from a TN panel, as are colors.

If you want an even better viewing experience, look for an IPS or VA monitor as they tend to have better viewing angles, color accuracy, color reproduction, and better contrast ratios.

As long as you're not doing any graphic design, photo editing, etc... on the monitor, it'll be fine. But if you want to spend a little more money and get something nicer, look for something with an IPS or VA panel instead of a TN panel.

no, i'm not going to do any work on this PC exept maybe some 2d CAD drawings for work, so i should be golden.

as i am looking for a used monitor with g-sync the options are very limited, and with the new price i was able to negotiate, i feel confident that i'll get my moneys worth.

Just a FYI, many freesync monitors are also supported by Nvidia, and they tend to run a bit cheaper than GSync monitors too.
