Wireless adapter is dead?

Hello everyone,

Im desperate, and I think my network adapter (TP-link 4800) is dead. Im getting the 'limited connection' problem when im trying to connect to my wifi network. The wifi is working fine for other devices.

The status led on the card itself is off. When i go in cmd and type ipconfig/all, theres no gateway assigned, perhaps thats my problem?

Im also getting the 'no device is connected' message from the tp-link wireless utility. I have the latest drivers and im running Windows 8 64bits.

I tries ipconfig/release, but i get "no operation can be performed on local area connector* 11 while it has its media disconnected"

If anybody could help i would be extremely graceful, i really dont know what to do and i really need to the wifi back ASAP :(

A big thank you to anyone who can help!

@Marx: If you go into the Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings, what do you see there?

Powerline adapters are another way of connecting a computer to a network. Instead of running long ethernet cables or using Wifi, it is a device (well, two really) that connects to your power socket. Data is transmitted through your electrical circuits at home. It can be much better than wifi but to do so it needs to be on the same circuit as the host adapter, otherwise you lose out on any benefits and you'd be better off on wifi.

In the Adapater Settings, it says that the Wifi is offline and there's a red X on it. When I go in ipconfig/all, the assigned IP is a private IP, starting with 169.254.x.x. There's no default gateway assigned. Obviously, the computer isn't able to get an IP from the routeur/modem, but I don't know why.

I'm going to install Windows 7 later this afternoon, and reinstall the Wifi Adapter drivers (I was using the latest for W8 x64 from the manufacturer website) and see how it goes. I wish I had another wifi adapter to test. =/

I'm seriously considering powerline adapters, the computer I'm using is right above the modem, one level above though. It would be a pain to dig a hole in the floor to route the ethernet cable. However, if I'm using a powerline adapter, it would probably work fine, but I don't know.

Any solutions guys? :(

Thanks all for helping!
