Does running programs in compatibility mode affect performance?

I am running a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) on a Windows 10 Pro machine with i7 8700K and 32GB DDR4 Memory.
I am trying to import a plugin in it and on doing so the program crashes.
Contacting the manufacturers of both DAW and the plugin, both suggested running the main program in Windows 8 compatibility mode.
Since I am using Windows 10 Pro, I was wondering if my performance will be affected or not.
If yes then how much?
