Hiya, currently trying to work through the problem so may take a minute to reply!

Short conclusion: Was playing Sekiro and my computer has been on for several hours. Sometimes when games or applications load up I'd get screen artifacts but it's not particularly unusual, my GPU has been doing it for a long while (at least a year) now and I have never had problems in games or applications. Only when loading and buffeting and I never managed to fix it. Now this time however, was playing and got into a loading screen and seconds later I got screen tearing and then dead monitor.

Monitors are now permanently black, tried two and same result. Computer appears to boot up fine, but I have got a VGA error LED that remains lit so my fears are a dead card which is a pain.

I've tried:

-Safe boot

-Unplugging all devices which are not necessary, extra drives, monitors, keyboard, mouse etc

-Safe mode on GPU

System below:

OS - Win10

CPU - Ryzen 7 1800X

GPU - R390X

Mobo - Asus ROG Crosshair 7 Hero

PSU - HX750i

Drivers are all up to date including BIOS. This is not a heating issue, CPU is at 35-40 celcius and GPU last I checked was sitting at 70-75ish. Plenty airflow.

Any ideas, tips, tricks please mention them and I'll do what I can.

I think the only thing to try is grab a friends or go to Fry's or Best Buy and buy a video card and pop her in and see if the same sh*T happens.  If it doesn't then RMA your card then when you recieve it back from RMA, return the temporary video card within 30 days remember that.

Old card, no warranty pal. I'm working on putting the spare card in now.

Troubleshooting over, my GPU is officially dead. PC works fine on the spare card so shame to see my 390X has passed on, it will be missed.

Give her a proper burial.  Go outside to a dirt place and put her 3 feet under and put a cross in the dirt stating the day she died and that she has moved on to video card heaven my friend.  It's ok it was probably meant to be.  Now use the spare card for 10 days and nVidia prices will fall and AMD releasing new video cards, you will have many choices then, just hang in there.

It'll join the shelf of the dead, along with my Commodores and Atari devices and other things forgotten haha.

And I need a new card asap, I use my PC for work and I've got to finish soon as I'm on holiday next week for a month. Can't afford delays, this is the worst timing possible. I've normally stuck with AMD but considering the prices at the moment I'd rather go with an RTX2070 but I've been out of the loop for a long time.

Will that work fine with an 1800X? What would you say?

Is that CPU overclocked ?  That would really help a lot, but honestly there is no bottleneck with your future 2070 and your 1800x.  You will get triple digits in frame rate in AAA titles.  I just hope the CPU is overclocked a bit past 4Ghz at least.  I think even without the OC you don't really have a bottleneck and what not.

CPU is not always overclocked, I have multiple profiles I use depending on what I'm doing. But there is obviously no way my 390X could keep up, but when I need processing power I have had the CPU up to just under 4.5Ghz if I remember right. Can't remember the voltage though.

What would you say about 750 watts PSU with my parts and a 2070? Asus say their 2070 wattage is 550, that's a lot more than my 390X needed...

On idle your using 120 to 140 watts.  On full load gaming your wattage usage wont even reach 400 watts.  Your fine with a 450 watt PSU to give yourself some head room.
