Hi guys, i was building a new computer and i am unable to power up the pc. So i did a little troubleshooting and found that when i insert the 8 pin into the mobo cpu 1, i am unable to power up. However when i remove the 8 pin, the computer is able to power up but monitor say no display. Any idea why when i insert the 8pin to mobo cpu power 1, the computer is unable to switch on?

Mobo: MSI X470 gaming plus

CPU: Ryzen 2700x

PSU: Cooler Master 650w gold plus

GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 black edition

Try only 4 pins, there could be an issue with the cable

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Do you have the 8 pin and the 4 pin CPU power sockets occupied or just the 8 pin?

What the other guy was saying is, on your 8pin CPU connector, only plug the 4 first pins into the socket leaving the other 4 free. Also leaving the 4 pin free. Even with a 2700x 4 pins is enough if you don't overvolt.

I see but i only have the 6+2 pin given in the psu. Do not have the 4+4 pin though.

6+2 is for GPU not for CPU. Please don't plug the 6+2 into CPU power socket.

Understood. But i dont see any 4+4pin provided in the psu box. And shouldnt the 8 pin be plug in instead of 4? Or 4 is sufficient to power up the cpu. And other question, meaning i plug into cpu power 1, first 4 pin from the left side? Or just the 4 pins in cpu power 2 socket?

Do you have the modular or non-modular version of this power supply?

With the CPU 8pin (4+4) they can only plug in one way and the first plug holds down the second. So you want to plug in the plug that has the ridge to sit or the other one.

It would definitely go into the CPU power 1 (the 8 pin slot) first.

I have the modular one but i dont rmb seeing the 4+4 cable. Might have missed out. So i will just plug in the 4+4 cable into the 8 pin, cpu pwr 1 8 pin slot. All 8 pins or just 4 pins, just to confirm again

When you have the correct cable try all 8. If it doesn't work go down to 4.
