I like to plug my headphone into the back of my computer because there is a headphones/line out port. On Ubuntu it reads this port as having two outputs "line in" and "headphones" the only difference between the two is that "line out" to my knowledge doesn't go through the onboard amp whilst headphone does. Besides going into pavucontrol every startup and changing it to headphones is there any way to have this setting stick. in summery It defaults to saying "line in" is the plugged in port when i want the same port's other function.

If i mistype anything/don't explain it right, don't be afraid to ask and I'll clarify.

If settings are lost during reboot, you can try to force-save them with "sudo alsactl store"

This is the problem:

                          |---Onboard amp---Headphone (profile?)

Physical port-----|

                          |------------------------------line out (profile?)

it reads this one port as two ports when its being used and defaults the plugged in status to "line out" so the volume is basically a whisper when using headphones. Its not really setting saving cause its meant to select the plugged in device.

its 4am so if i don't respond i fell asleep :)
