Drives not being detected.

Forgot to find a good place to say this, but I'm using Windows 8 

 

I recently built a new computer, and was going to do some data transferring by putting the hard drives if my old computer into the new one. The new one detected the drives, but Windows would start loading, then instantly flash a blue screen, then reboot. I put the drives into my old computer and it doesn't even detect the drives. Are my drives dead, or is Windows just acting up?
