I am looking for a 1440p monitor that is 144hz (above isnt a massive massive problem). I got reccomended the *ASUS MG278Q * but the fact that it was a TN panel it kinda put me off. Can someone see if they can find a VA panel which fits those specs?? Price would be around £400 (lil above lil below). I would mainly do gaming but would also probably do some graphics designing if I get back into it.  Would anyone say the asus one I got reccomended is worth getting over any other monitor??

VA panels, with or without GSync, are very hard to find at 1440p while also being below 30-32". Size and cost push VA out of your budget. IPS panels would suit you for the size.

The problem is when you throw GSync into the mix. GSync monitors are expensive, especially when you're trying to avoid a TN panel.

This is about the best I could find for you after looking for an hour.

Honestly, if you want to do graphic design, you want an IPS panel. If you want to game, you want a TN panel. If you want to do both, you would want an IPS panel, unless you're a twitch gamer playing things like CS:GO and other super-fast paced shooters. Then you'd probably be best off with two different monitors, as the golden egg you want doesn't really exist.

You don't want a VA panel for gaming due to the ghosting. A VA panel offers the best contrast, great color, great viewing angles when compared to a TN panel. Over IPS, you lose the backlight bleed and generally gain better contrast. But VA panels have the worst response time for switching colors, so you'll end up with dizzying blurring when you play games. IPS panels have better color reproduction and response time over a VA panel, and the 4-5ms G2G (gray-to-gray) transition time isn't at all horrible, just not as good as a TN panel.

Are VA panels really that bad for gaming, I mean the 144Hz ones for example, as this one that I was looking at getting AOC-CQ32G1 is advertised as having a 1ms response time, seems a bit silly having any high refresh rate VA monitor if all of them have bad ghosting, kind of defeats the purpose.. I am pretty new to monitor technology, so I don't know a lot, and don't want to waste my money. I know from experience some TN's look really bad and washed out, is there a way to tell a good TN monitor from the really bad ones?

MPRT is not the same as G2G. MPRT is a simulated reduction in screen lag by strobing the backlighting.

Honestly, both are probably marketing BS, but they give you an idea of what effective speed you'll see the monitor running at. Your best bet to know what you're getting is to look at reviews. Judging from the quick look at reviews, that monitor seems pretty OK, I'd expect that from AOC though. Some people complain about ghosting and smearing, as well as flickering at low framerates (when your graphics card can't keep up).

Yes, you can have severe ghosting even though the refresh rate is very high. They are two different things. Ghosting happens when the pixels can't transition between colors fast enough. The video card and monitor can be sending new color data as fast as they want, but if the pixels can't keep up, then it leaves ghosts trailing and smearing behind your moving images. It's most obvious in fast-paced shooters and if you scroll on a web page.

There are two other recent posts asking the same thing (one was mine). I am in the UK too, which is annoying me r.e. different availability of monitors compared with the USA.

Biggest question though is what GPU do you have?

I am getting the rtx 2080

It really depends on what you value more.

If you value gaming above everything, then that TN panel should do you fine. You might be able to shop around and get a better deal on a similar one, and not pay as much for the ASUS logo. Then again, you could just say to hell with it and buy it, and you'd be happy.

If you really want to get back into graphic design, then consider an IPS panel (you could also wait until when you actually get back into it). Yeah, you might end up with backlight bleed. What you don't end up with is artwork that looks OK on your screen, but in print and on literally everyone else's screen, all of the colors are off.
