Even without Razer Synapse the lights will function..

It's the USB you're putting the Blackwidow in.. How does my lights work with any PC? without Synapse? and with?

It must be your PC or keyboard, you can RMA it...

I have the EXACT same problem, and this happened only after the synapse update.

Why don't the LEDs to my Blackwidow Ultimate work when Razer Synapse is open?!

I have found the fix. On synapse, create a completely new profile and everything should be back to normal.
