New pc cant read second hdd

So at this point i'm this close to lose my mind

I just finished building a new pc,got windows and all drivers etc,i have my old hdd which contains most of my games so i thought to connect it too to send it in my new 500gb hdd,yet every single time i try and connect it,it takes me to the bios,apparently it didnt detect

It works just fine in my old pc so can someone enlighten me?

That old hdd also has a os in it,win 8.1 and new has win 10

Dock the old HDD in an external bay, and transfer the games to the new drive manually. Then format the old drive, install it in your system, then transfer the games back to it. Having two copies of Windows "available" during the boot process will cause issues most of the time.

newegg, amazon, ebay.   search for  "sata to usb" or "usb to sata",   and enclosure, or external if you want a case to put hdd in. 

 

was there something wrong with HDD in first place? and reason for new pc? if HDD was fine, then sounds there is more to the story, and possible something not turned on in bios. 

make model of motherboard and HDD that is not working?

Well the hdd is maaaaaaybe 8 years old lol

Well it was slow in the old pc but it worked,i wanted a new pc for gaming

I had a similar problem when I bought a new hdd to replace my failing, old drive (sequencial read went south and my OS kept on crashing, otherwise it was still good for long term storage). 

Here's a suggestion, install your old drive into sata 2 and your new drive in sata 1, then going into your bios and select your boot sequence priority you must ensure that your motherboard will only try to boot from your new drive and not from your old one. Then load windows, if your old drive is still not there, go into "disk management" and look for it there, once you see it, right click and select enable/activate, windows disables other drives that have an os on them by default, you may also want to give your old drive a drive letter. I'd also recommend copying your games to your new drive temporarily, so you can reformat your old drive, you can do this also in your disk management, actually I'd recommend this as you can then delete your old disk's "system reserved" as it won't need it anymore.

Thanks for your reply,problem is when i tried to connect both at the same time and try to boot from the old hdd,it didnt even read it in the bios. I went to storage section and every single sata link said "hard drive not detected" except the new hard drive that took one. So even in the bios my old hdd isnt read

random thoughts / tries. 

• update the bios, and reset bios to default, (rebooting when required, and after making changes to default)
• clear cmos on motherboard, at end of it all. and see what happens, with bios reset to default again. 
• see if bios is set to ahci vs raid
• due a full computer off, wait 10 seconds or so, then turn it on,  vs "reset / reboot". 
• try another sata cable, and another port on motherboard.

• goal of "sata to usb" and/or external usb enclosure, is so  you could hook up drive once pc is up and running, and then run some trial data recovery software on hdd to see if recovery software can see drive, and if need be possibly retrieve data, possibly find out error/s on drive.

I think i found the problem,the sata data cable might be defective,i hooked up the old hdd back to my old computer using the new cable and it didnt work,but when i used an old one that i had it did work,makes sense cause power was going through the drive when i hooked the sata to the psu.

I'm glad you found the problem. I was going to suggest that you look if your motherboard is only looking for uefi drives, it can cause legacy drives to not show up or be detected.
