Best replacement firmware for my router?

Echodamus

I have heard of open source firmware for routers and was wondering which one was the best? What do I need to be aware of, and what other cautions, concern or general information should I know before getting into a project like this? Thanks for the help.

Here is a list of common fallacies. Which ones have you used today?

dd-wrt is probably the best and most popular, there is also OpenWRT and others.

Something wrong with your connection ?

Run the damn cable :)

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything I should be know before I use this firmware, any warnings or in general how to make things not go fubar?

Make sure your device is supported, avoid putting this on new routers like rt-n66r and other not supported by the main release.

Read everything for first time users on their site/forums.

Stable power for the device.

Patience.
