Screen flickers to black after waking up from sleep

Whenever I wake the monitor from sleep it turns on as normal but as soon as I click on the start menu for example the screen blacks out for a second and comes back. This only happens when G-Sync is enabled. If I have G-Sync disabled in the nvidia control panel it doesn't happen. This is on the LG 34GK950G monitor and Strix 2080 Ti OC. I have the latest drivers installed. Any ideas why this happens?
