Weird codec issue

Hi,

 

So let me try to explain this. i've got some old footage from 1999 to 2001 that I want to merge together. I got this footage from an dvd which I copied to my computer. everything works fine. However the files that came from the dvd must be opened with VLC otherwise the sound doesn't work. (sound codec too old?) other apps can play it fine since I converted it to mp4 from the dvd. Ah well I proceeded to merge the files together but now the sound doesn't work at all. Even vlc can't play the sound anymore. The orginal files from the dvd are not deleted.

 

 

Anybody got any idea? Thanks
