Hello,

About a month ago i purchased a TOP OC Rx 580 to upgrade my computer, but when i used it for the first time i experienced really bad FPS and really bad GPU usage. i thought this was just my PSU so i upgraded it the next day, along with a new stick of ram, and better cooling. but none of this seemed to fix the really low GPU Usages in games. For an example, gta v will only use 50% - 80% of the graphics card, but i only get around 30-40fps.i have tried so many games and the problem occurs with all of them, but what i noticed is that when running certain games, if the player is looking at a city for example (where the GPU has to render more graphics), thats when i get really low usages, but if i look straight down into the ground, the usage hits to 100% and i get high frames. I Found a video with a person that is experiencing the same problem (linked below). i just want to know how i can fix this, i have already tried upgrading almost everything in my computer, but its still not happy, i have tried fresh driver installs and everything. So i decided to pop my old GT 1030 in, updated the drivers, and everything worked perfectly, i then used the gpu from the Ryzen 5 2400g to see what happens, and it does the same thing, low gpu usage So could it be my cpu the fault, and not my GPU?

65C isn't overheating.

What GPU did you use before getting the RX 580? 1030 or iGPU?

did you uninstall the nvidia drivers with DDU in safe mode?

indeed, DDU is a life saver, thats what i first thought it would be, the drivers, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I even went back to using 17.7.1 drivers, still nothing... I heard something about its important for the CPU To have drivers as well, i haven't installed any to my knowledge, do you think it would be a good idea?

What game settings and how many fps are you getting?

What's the usage of your CPU while your GPU is 50%-80%?

Edit: just watched the video, it's anything closer to bad fps, while aiming to a far  zone depending on your settings (you can set how far your GPU should be rendering the objects) you could get less fps than aiming to a close object

GTA V: Max settings 20-40 fps (30 - 80% Usage) Should be getting around 50 area

Fortnite: Max settings 40-80 fps (30 - 100% Usage) Should be getting a solid 90 mark
RE 2 Remake: Max settings 90 - 120 fps (100% Usage) This game performs perfectly, and i do know that its AMD Optimized but idk.
AC: Odyssey: High Settings 20 - 40 fps (20 - 60% Usage) Should be getting around 40-50fps This one was one of the worst performing.

One thing that i forgot to mention is that in cut scenes and certain places on the map i get 100% Usage and perfect fps... See if you can decode whats going on :)

Well, AC Odyssey is a highly demanding game, even for a GTX 1070 you get low fps (in comparisson to past titles)

For the GTA 5, I've found some tips:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV_PC/comments/3djl6k/render_distance/

https://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/grand-theft-auto-v-pc-graphics-and-performance-guide

The thing about maxing out the games is that most of the time, those games have shitty and useless options that only affect fps and not visual effects, like Nvidia Hairworks on The Witcher 3 that you can see a 20 fps drop and I just see the same hair of Geralt LoL

Study the settings options and choose wisely

Okay thanks for those handy links, but this isn't solving the fact that im getting terrible GPU usage when the graphics card could be working harder and achieve much better fps, because playing AC at 20 fps and only seeing the card working at 30% is just annoying. but thanks again to everyone helping :D

he should be getting much higher fps with a 580 strix i never had that problem at 1080p ultra settings

Hey guys, sorry for the late response, i genrelly close everyother program apart from chrome, afterburner and taskmanager.

I normally have my Anti-Alising at high to max, depending on the game... and for grass i have tried all, low to high, i genrelly go with Very High area.

What i just dont get is that certain games, will perform better than others, im not expecting to get 100% all the time but i just want to get close to that.

Well... It's a nice CPU for the price, not as good price/performance as the 2200G but still pretty good CPU

You can always sell it and buy another one without APU tho, not the best option but...

SO in your honest opinion, do you think it may be the CPU to blame for the low usage, i just dont see why it would bottleneck the GPU like that, considering its more than enough power for a 580 strix...

Is it happening only in open world games? Like, I've recently played Residen Evil 2 Remake (what a game, oh my, what a game) and I haven't felt like it's any CPU intensive game (played it at 1080p highest settings, getting between 120 and 144 fps with my i7 6700K at 50% usage and gtx 1070 99% usage), so maybe that's why it played so well in your system?

I'd say yes, it could be your CPU causing a bottleneck in open world games or highly demanding CPU games, but I can't assure you it is...

Here's a tip, go to the CPU forum and ask the 2400G owners what are their experiences like, and measure your CPU usage while playing GTA 5

Thanks for all the help! i will ask about my 2400g but i did expect this to be able to handle this kind of stuff easily, as people playing with a 1600 can acheive 100% usage with a 580, but i will ask the CPU Section and see what i get.

Unfortunetly im not at my PC To perform those identical settings, but i have used settings like that yesterday to see how much fps i would get, i got around 50fps with 60% usage, i know GTA is a good example but its happening with everything, and i wouldnt think my CPU would be to blame, because putting a GT 1030 in it performs perfect. so i dont know what to go to next.
