Both options would work and perform the same.  I would use the 6+2pin option because it is simpler and cleaner.

uh, dont use a splitter, a 8 pin is supposed to deliver 150W, a 6 pin can only do 75, my 1070 SC2 draws most of its power from the 8 pin, so 120-150+ watts going through a connector designed for 75 is not a good idea. BTW: never use adapters like 6pin to 8pin, or molex to 8pin, as if your PSU doesnt have a 8 pin, chances are its either A: under 400 watts, or B: Really old or really cheap/shit

Good to know, thank you both for your guys' assistance.

I know a bit about building my own PC and some of the ins and outs of a PC.

What I don't know is, my GTX 1070 SC2 has a single 8pin connector. I use a (splitter?) to connect it to the 6-pin PCIE connector from the PSU. Before today, the "splitter" was only connected to one 6-pin, I just connected it to two 6-pins.

Does this make a difference? Can it hurt the GPU? Will it increase performance? What is the point of two 6-pin's to 1 8-pin versus 1-1?

Oh, I mis-spoke. The splitter is connected to erm... Idk, it's an 8 pin, but two of the pins are like off to the side?

that is a 6+2pin connector and can be used with the 8 pin socket on your card.

Should I use that over the whole splitter deal?

I don't know what that is.  Post some pictures of your options.
