Games stuttering need help

Hello this is going to be a quick one I recently build a pc (my first pc) after putting everything together everything worked good but as soon as I started downloading games and playing them my pc decides to start going retarded mode where it would stutter every single 5 seconds and I don’t understand why I have a pretty powerful pc it should be able to run smoothly any game but no well if anyone has suggestions I would greatly appreciate it here are my specs

 

 

motherboard- b350 m4 gaming plus

cpu- Ryzen 2600 stock cooler

gpu- rtx 2060 founders edition (oc)

ram-8gb hypex fury 2666 ddr4

Storage- sata 6.0gb/s 320gb 7200rpm

And I have another one that is a hdd 1 terabyte this is the code dT01ACA100

I'd start by checking for any processes or programs running that may be interfering- also check to make sure things such as the Windows 10 "Game Mode" are turned off, I've had my computer stutter when that's on.

Additionally, what game are you playing?  Some modern games may be loading large assets often enough that a mechanical HDD (the 7200rpm drive you mention) can't keep up- whereas a hybrid drive or SSD would work fine.

Honestly, outside of your stuttering issues I can't recommend you pick up a SSD or at least a hybrid drive enough, you've got a very nice, modern build there but your storage is massively behind the times by comparison, and it would be money well spent.

Edit: Additional note- background windows updates/program updates can cause poor performance on newly set up computers on HDD/Hybrid drives, worth checking to see if that's the cause.

Hello thank you for replying btw I forgot to mention that I have 8gb of ram and I’ve noticed that where the stuttering is most noticeable is when playing BattlefieldV I’m going to try turning off game mode as you suggested and checking for any unwanted programs that might be making my pc performance poor

That is useful info to know- after some very brief research, appears that Battlefield V uses a fair amount of RAM- how about running the game with task manager open to see how much RAM the game is using?  If it's using all or almost all of your system's RAM, that could well be the reason behind the stutters- it could be using the hard drives as a replacement for RAM, which is very slow in comparison.

Good news, RAM is very easy to upgrade!  If you have 2x4GB of RAM, just get 2 more 4GB sticks- or a second stick if you have 8GB currently, for example.  Just make sure you get the same exact type, brand and speed!

Quick update yes I’ve noticed that I use 95% of my ram while playing and I noticed that windows game mode was actually eating most of my performance now I could run the game semi-smooth thank you I’ll see if I ask my mom another 40-90 dollars on ram upgrade after I spent  her 1,000+ working on this pc oh boy I can’t wait for her reaction
