Hello there ! (General Kenobi)

I have a problem. I recently purchased the ModMic 5 + USB adapter (For PS4 ((and pc 'cause I won't plug-in it in Jack directly (((yeah it's dumb, but it work))). But I run my sound with my USB Interface (Saffire 6 USB) and wanted to put my mic on (with XLR adapter) but no sound is detected when plugged.. I tried all buttons, like a turd, but nothing change.

Any of you could experience it ? & see where's the problem from ?

?

I used XLR 'cause it's how Microphones are plugged on the Interface. You mean plugin in jack on the XLR input ?

The larger hole in the middle of the XLR is a 6.3mm connector. So you would just use a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter and plug in straight into the interface.

Wouldn't make much sense using XLR inputs for a little microphone over such small distances.

Now, it doesn't mean that it will just automatically work but it just seems more convenient.

Do you know more specifically where the problem lies?

Hmm I'll try after buying a adapter but i'm not conveinced working better than XLR adapter.

I'm guessing about missing power from a simple mic than a large Large Diaphragm Microphones, I can't verify it. I choosed the Modmic to optimizing my setup space instead using a Diaphragm Microphones with Arm Stand (and less expansive).

Have you used the interface previously? Is it specifically the modmic that doesn't work with it?

I have this interface since 2010 but never plugged Mic on, only for my studio monitors.

The ModMic is the first Mic I plugged in. I can't tell if it could really work, I pretended tho, to avoid my studio headset on the interface plus the ModMic plugged on my pc's usb. I wanted to have both in one.

I might found the problem/solution. The problem is from my adapter (from Rode) it doesn't lead the necessary power to the phatom power supply (from the Audio Interface) 3v>48v.

The solution, I didn't pay attention on the manufacturer shop (Antlion) but they are selling a adapter XLR 3v>48v, so it might work with this one, just need to buy&try.

That should do it, but try with your current XLR adapter, phantom power off and the "pad" on.

And it's not just a software setting at this point?

The device shows up under input devices?

Nope, it's the adapter issue, I didn't buy the right one.. theres two XLR adapter (from Rode), VXLR (classic adapter) & VXLR+ (which will convert 12-48V Phantom Power down to 3-5V 'Plug in Power'). If I only saw that before :sigh:

Sorry about that! You've found the solution - or at least the problem - correctly. Given your location is France it is probably cheaper to get the Rhode VXLR+ and return the VXLR (why they chose to name them so similar is beyond me). Not that I would mind you getting our XLR Power Converter, but... yeah I am sure you've spent enough on this already :).

It should work fine. However, personally... you may actually find you get better mic audio from the USB adapter. So be sure to test... and be sure you have a good return policy :D. Converting from XLR to 3.5mm can sometimes introduce some unintended line noise or distortion because the 3.5mm line isn't balanced.

Thanks for being there Joe ! :)

Yep hardly found, quiet dumb due to wrong keywords.. I'd buy your XLR adapter first than the Rode one. Tho, you should have right that it might be less adapted using the ModMic in XLR, I just wanted to have a All-In-One setup to get a proper cable management haha

Many thanks guys ! :)

Now for the real kick @DMGR - Before you do anything please double check the ModMic 5 is still working. It's really not supposed to get 48v of phantom power. It can damage the mic :)
