Combo jack

Hello,

 

I have a Dell G3 laptop that has a combo jack and I'm wanting to use my other microphone other than the one that is built into the laptop.  When I plug the mic in it will still continue to use the built in microphone.  Is there away that I am able to disable the built in microphone so it will only use the external one?
