Oneplus 6 Display Issues

Hi,

I've had my Oneplus 6 since around the start of June. A little over a month ago I started to have some issues with the display. It would randomly flicker a bright white light when not being used and sometimes whilst being used. It seems to have gotten much worse. I'm now at a stage where I can't unlock my phone for long periods of time because the screen flashes then  cuts back to black. The only way to unlock it is to keep pressing the power button and eventually instead of just flickering it will come up with the lock screen. I think the issue is related to screen brightness. If I turn the brightness to its minimum, the screen flashes persistently until I turn it back up. This would explain why I'm having issues unlocking the phone too, since the screen is struggling to get past the initial stages in building up brightness. I have tried all the standard measures including a full factory reset, safe mode and contacting Oneplus support (who just said I should reset it). I've looked at everything I can find on the internet and it seems people were having some flickering issues around August time but these were apparently fixed in a software update and there isn't very much about it recently that is relevant to my specific issues. I don't know whether this could be a software issue because I have had updates since the problem first arose. I have not damaged the phone in any way, it is in the case Oneplus provided with a screen protector. My main question is whether anyone at all has had this same issue and whether it has been solved? I am likely going to have to just send it away to Oneplus and it should be  covered under warranty but this will provide a few inconveniences.
