Hi

I'm in the market for a new PC but i'm totally stumped. What has happened in the last 6 or so years, things have gotten SO complicated?  I purchased my Dell Studio XPS must be 6 years ago by now with a Intel i7 860.  It isn't really up to the task anymore and everything I do takes an age to open, save or render.  I use a lot of Adobe software e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.  The latter is a major pain to use as if I am rendering something the pc basically becomes unusable. The same when I have a backup running, I simply cannot so anything, even browsing a website becomes a chore. Here are my systems specs https://valid.x86.fr/kd17tp .

I'm at a loss as to what type of PC to get, there are so many variables now that I am completely stumped and my head is ready to explode.  Do I go with an off the shelf Dell, do I get my pc custom built.  If the latter what do ask for??  There must be guides for a typical build for someone who is into web/print design with some video work also.  If so will someone please point me to one??  I would REALLY appreciate it.

The Adobe creative suite benefits a lot from utilizing the iGPU of Intel CPUs through hardware acceleration so Intel would be the way to go. How much are you looking to spend?

Thanks for the reply.  I have about a €2000 budget, basically something to get me through the next 5 or so years :)

something like this maybe? you could go intel too, as adobe can do better on intel, but with the shortage, the prices just don't feel like it to me. allowed to prove me wrong

tower only I assume? brb

Thanks Luke, ya I was thinking tower only.  I'll pop into part picker and see.  Someone was telling me that I should get Intel Optane, is there any point?

You mentioned 'Shortage' in a later post here.  Is there currently a shortage which is affecting prices?

asrock is really good on amd this time around... tuf is actually a overpriced board for what it is, no vrm heatsink, bad power design, things like that.

see the build just below it...

optane is a waste imo, just get a ssd and hdd, it's not worth the cost imo

yep, intel has a shortage on the 14nm process which affects availability, pricing and their use of 22 nm for chipsets
