Im getting the Asus VG245H monitor and I'm wondering if I have to use  DisplayPort to get the 144 hz or can I just go with hmdi and get 144 hz?

I believe the standard for HDMI as of last year was 60hz max, but I could be wrong. I also know that a new standard for HDMI was on its way or is already out. To be safe, I would just use Display Port, it is a better platform than HDMI imho.

To my knowledge it is capable of higher resolutions at higher frequencies.

The VG245H is a 75 Hz monitor and doesn't even have DisplayPort as far as I'm aware.

This is not correct. Some monitors are limited to 60 Hz over HDMI but that limitation is not universal to all HDMI devices. It just depends on the specific monitor.

I only have display ports for my gpu left, the other hdmi is taken. Should Ig et hdmi to DP or will hdmi-hdmi give it 75hz?
