Thinking about a racing simulator setup

Hello everyone,

I have always been into racing games almost as much as into FPS, but I rarely play anymore since I find the desk + steering wheel solution to be more and more unsatisfying all around (seating position, mounting and un-mounting for every session etc.).

So I am seriously thinking about building a racing simulator setup since I will have the space for it in my new house.

So why is this in the displays section you may ask?

There is an abundance of racing chair setups as whell as steering wheel options (I think I will go for a G27 as the G25 has served me very well over the years). So my real question is what displays I would need.

Since I would be sitting quite a bit further away from the displays than usual, resolution would not matter as much and size would be more important for the immersion I would imagine. So what do you guys recommend?

-One as-large-as-possible TV/Screen?

-2-3 medium size good-for-gaming TV's?

-2-3 large low refresh rate 1440p displays?

-Is 1080p even an option at that size?

EDIT: Is VR even a more cost effective option at this point?

I don't really have a set budget, but I am not looking to go balls-to-the-wall with a €5.000 setup. I am thinking more along the lines of €1.000 - €1.500.

Thanks for your input!

If all you want is a surround set up, I would go with triple 1080p monitors. Cheap and effective. If you have the GPU to drive triple 1440p monitors, obviously that would be better, but also more expensive. I don't know how well games like Assetto Corsa and such are optimized, so you'll have to make a judgement call there.

If you're going with an actual similator set up with the whole seat and everything though, I would say go for TVs. Usually an equivalently sized monitor will cost more than a TV, due to monitors being less trash than TVs, and TVs using sketchy name schemes and sometimes not actually being 60 Hz lol, and 1080P monitors don't really come bigger than 27" anyways, so maybe you could get like 3 32" TVs or something. Again, you'll have to make that call based on how you're mounting it all and your budget.

You could always just go for a single ultrawide and call it done. You'd have to mount it a bit closer but it would be fine. Or... triple UW :P jk
