HDD Disappeared After M.2 SSD Installation

The M.2 slot might be disabling the SATA port on your motherboard. Might need to check its manual.

I have 4 hard drives:

  1. Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD (C:) - Internal
  2. Seagate 2TB HDD (D:) - Internal
  3. Seagate 3TB HDD (E:) - Internal
  4. WD My Book 2TB HDD (I:) - External

I just installed a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD. Upon doing so my (D:) has disappeared from both the BIOS and drive partitions. I unplugged and re-plugged in the cables and even swapped them. I tried changing the boot orders, but nothing works. Instead of showing 5 hard drives in the BIOS, it shows me 4 and then my HP printer as the 5th device.

Check your motherboard manual. Plugging in a NVMe drive may disable certain SATA ports.
