Looking at upgrading an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower with a new graphics card.

I'm looking at turning my dad's old business prebuilt HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower into a entry level gaming PC. It has a 350w PSU and I need suggestions for a graphics card that would fit. I was think of a GTX1050ti 4GB, but please comment below for maybe a better solution.

Thank you.

First, we need all the specs. Second, upgrade the PSU to an 80+ cert one, preferably 450-500w, third, what's ur budget?

Np for replying. I think you should change the PSU still if possible, because non 80+ cert PSU have the chance of exploding (No joke). I guess of you don't have a budget, get an Rx 570 4GB, Rx 580 4GB, Rx 580 8gb. If you must go with Nvidia, gtx 1060 3gb, anything else is a bit expensive and could cause bottlenecks.

Thank you. I don't mind going to AMD. But still, I don't want to spend unnecessary money on it

How much do you want to spend only on the gpu?

I think you should go to maybe the gt 900 series because a CPU like this will bottle neck that gpu

Why would it bottleneck it?

This is a fourth gen i7. It's outdated an dold. Thermals would have gotten worse over the years, support is lagging, it's a 22 nano meter processor the cpu isn't that good. Which will lead to the gpu not been used to full power.

  • 2 years later...

did anyone ever get an answer to this... the answers given aren't relevant because they don't take into account that the 800 has a proprietary motherboard and psu... they carry proprietary power connectors and not atx... and there are no power connectors for a gpu... the only gpu's that will work with this board are one's that don't require external power... this was a crappy idea by hp... but par for the course...

and for the record... 4th gen processors are just fine for gaming
