I recently bought this LG 32UN880P Ergo for my new desk but my Dell Precision 7510 is crying for replacement. Can’t run most of my programs anymore without bringing up some driver incompatibility messages. I have looked at this affordable gaming horse from Dell, the G16 7630 and the G15 5530. i am aware there are other ones out there just need your suggestions cause I need to change this pc and have the best experience of this beast monitor.

To start off, i would like everyone that reads this topic to know that this is about a system build that i can grow into, i don't have a lot and/or any experience with certain work flows. i also would like to add that this is a hybrid computer system(if you have not read the entire title), and that i have searched for info on this type of system for over a year now and have not found much, other then bits and pieces, which i am so far incapable of putting together(comment below). i first started looking into a gaming PC(awhile back), until i got into game editors(not too long ago), now im thinking about getting into video editing(encoding, rendering, etc), world building type editors (3d max, unreal engine, etc), so now it's about finding the right balance between a gaming and work station build, but i have come across some snags that maybe someone here can help me with or maybe someone here can correct me on with what i have so far(as well as my snag), here we go. Check "=Progress=" below before continuing. (keep in mind that i could be doing more then one thing at once, multi monitor setup, like 3 or 4, all 3440 x 1440 and above) =Progress= Mobo: Asus - Z10PE-D8 WS SSI EEB Dual-CPU LGA2011-3 -VS- ROG Rampage V Edition 10 CPU: x2 Intel - Xeon E5-2699 V4 2.2GHz 22-Core(Turbo 3.6GHz) -VS- Intel i7 6950x(OC to 4.5 or 4.7 for single core performance) GPU: Nvidia Titan Xp(2017) x2 in SLi(O.C. & W.C.) -VS- PNY - Quadro P6000 24GB Video Card (supports 2-Way SLI) OR can i have both? Memory: Crucial - 128GB(4 x 32GB) DDR4-2133 CAS 15(for each CPU, total 8 x 32GB) -VS- GeiL 64GB(4 x 16GB)DDR4-3000 CAS 13 OS Drive: Samsung - 960 Pro 2.0TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (Win 10 Pro -VS- Win 10 Home) Drive(1, 2, 3, 4): Samsung - 850 EVO 4TB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Games, editor related, Misc storage, Backup?) PSU: Corsair - AX1500i 1500W Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Fans, Lights, Pumps?, and everything on this list) Sound Card?: Asus - STRIX RAID DLX 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card (idk, i just want high quality sound for anything i do) My current issue is for both CPU and GPU(RAM seems fine). CPU: im stuck between core count and single core clock speed(i need both for gaming and work loads), so far im not sure what a good enough clock speed is between 3GHz and 4.6GHz for 3440 x 1440(and above) gaming, and core count, multitasking plus applications, how many cores would i really need for internet browsing, unreal engine, gaming, all at once, maybe even throw in a 4K video that's being rendered while these is all running(extreme example). GPU: a titan Xp is great for gaming(OC, WC and SLi) and quadro is meant for work loads(not! OC, WC, but can SLi, p6000), but both(from what ive seen) can do each other's jobs well enough(minus VRAM differences, etc). so what i have atm in my mind is. CPU: 50/50 cannot decide. GPU: 50/50 Pick and choose??. Simply put, i want a computer that can do it all, just encase, money is not an issue.

Hi, I've been been working in the field of Machine Learning for over 7 years now and have been recently handed over a significant chunk of funding to aid my adventures. I require a work horse machine capable of handling immense work loads with lots of computing. i value the suggestion of the LTT community and would like to put my plan forward for your review and criticism. my max budget is about 7K$ ( is flexible) and I've come up with a PC part picker list. i of course will have to find a source to buy/ ship it to India my base of operations. unfortunately it's coming 1k over budget and i would your suggestions in come cost cutting. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xLLDPs here is the list. the mains here lots of RAM, beefy GPU and enough cores to last a long time with 24x7 operation handling hundreds of gigabytes of workload.

Hey guys, This is my first post and I'm relatively new to GPUs in general. I have enjoyed watching the LTT videos and have a couple problems I need solving. I work regularly on my laptop making maps for different instances and will be going into mapping out wildfires. For this reason, I will be flying to different states and will be limited on what I can bring. Currently, I'm rocking an HP with Windows 10, an i7 - 5500U at 2.4 GHz, 12 GB ram, and the onboard 5500 HD Graphics. Here is a link to the laptop http://www.samsclub.com/sams/hp-15-6-notebook-intel-core-i7/prod19381725.ip. The laptop works well on all but the most demanding mapping loads (Rendering national road datasets) and other general workloads that I perform (Rendering 90,000+ lines of excel data). But it can still stutter a bit when working within those loads. Essentially I would like to increase the rendering times of maps and the processing that happens within those maps. I realize that these are two different things. With the portability issues would it be reasonable to build a desktop back home and remote into it for work, I can think of a few times when being in the middle of a random state and being relatively remote that might not work great. Possibly doing an eGPU and bringing that with me? My laptop does not have a removable back plate for easy access to the Micro PCIE so I would have to cut a slit in the computer and have a dangling cable at all times. Any other options you guys can think of? I would really like to not buy a new laptop since this one isn't terribly old. Thanks again!

Building a small business workstation I'm try trying to build a small business workstation for my parents cannot determine whether I should be going with something like a Ryzen 2600/3600 or a Intel 9400f. They will not be doing anything graphically intensive so don't know if going Ryzen and adding a GPU is even necessary. Most of the workload will be multiple programs open at the same time (ie. QuickBooks and other business software) and running way too many chrome tabs.

Hello everybody, I got the chance to get my hands on a donated Streaming PC and was thinking about making a dedicated workstation out of it, I mostly do After Effects and Photoshop work, only sometimes I start up some Autodesk Maya Here are the basic components, I can post a better list soon. I was thinking about doubling up the RAM, if I can find the same pieces, also I want to add a M.2 drive where I would put the OS, I was also thinking about using a SSD as Cache Only and a HDD as Backup/Storage, probably getting another SSD for more work storage too. should I switch the built-in GPU (Radeon RX580) for my current GTX1070? any tips, or advices on my current thoughts? my current PC has: i7-4790 3.6 GHz MSI GTX1070 8G 32GB DDR3 RAM I would take my current PC as gaming only, because a reformat is long overdue, so I would buy a RTX2080 when they are available and swap the GPUs around also I was thinking about putting both PCs on one desk, somebody got a good idea how I should go about it? or is it not worth the hassle and I should get 2 seperate desks?

So I have a r7 1700 at 3.6ghz in short can this cpu with its lower ipc get to 144hz in games like pubg and overwatch? I fear getting a high refresh rate monitor if I will never hit that max framerate it can handle. I can oc to maybe 3.8ghz but that's the max my cpu can really do. My ram is 3200mhz flare x at 14 14 14 34 which i've heard helps.

Hello Everyone, Background So, I am planning to build a new PC to replace my broken Laptop (Asus N46VZ, i7-3630QM, Nvidia GT-650M, Samsung 840 EVO, 12GB DDR3). I've never built a computer of my own before, but I have been interested in PC building and have been following the topic for quite some time now. I don't have a lot of experience in choosing hardware parts, so I decided to ask here. I'm sure that you guys are more experienced than I am, and I hope that you can help me make the right decisions. I will be building the system in the next week or two. Aim I will use the computer as my main rig and use it for the following purposes - Run a couple of Virtual Machine (Virtual Box). - Doing some research about password cracking, hashing and other stuff (for a network security course that i will be taking, purely educational purposes). - Some stuff related to networking (I have already built a pfSense Router box) - Some video editing, image editing, 3D modelling (Blender, GIMP/Photoshop, Sketchup). - Be able to run the PC 24/7, I am considering on performing some calculations and doing some folding during the night. - Play some PC games (I mainly play Dota and I wish that I can play it in the highest quality). - Power Efficient. Budget I am currently living in Taiwan, all of the parts will be purchased at the local store. For building the PC, I have a budget of 1,000USD or about 30,000NTD (New Taiwan Dollar). I have already owned all of the parts except the CPU, motherboard, CPU Cooler, Case, and Memory. So the $1000 budget is to buying those five things. Hardware and Software List (Taiwan Pricing, converted to USD w/ Google) CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v5 (Skylake), $276.35 CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X Turbo, $34.66 Motherboard: MSI C236M Workstation, $123.70 Memory: 1x Kingston ECC RAM 16GB Module - DDR4 2133MHz (KVR21E15D8/16) (*I plan to buy another stick in the future*), $88.72 Storage: Samsung 840 Evo - 256GB (Owned), WD Green 1.5TB (Owned) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X (*For the CUDA cores that i might be able to leverage*), $333.59 Case: Thermaltake Core V21, $63.28 Power Supply: Seasonic G Series 550W (Owned) Operating System: Ubuntu Gnome Monitor: Asus VX239H, IPS Full HD Monitor (Owned) Software that I will run: Virtual Box, GIMP, Photoshop, Blender, Sketchup, Folding, Dota. Total Cost for buying the parts I need $898.37 PC PartPicker link for pricing in USD. EDIT 1 (8/18/2016) - Updated Parts List (Link for the old parts list can be found here). After reading the comments, I decided to swap out the motherboard for a cheaper one from MSI. I swapped out the Asus WS motherboard for the MSI Workstation motherboard, as it saves me some money so that i can afford other parts for the build. - I decided to change the motherboard form factor from ATX to micro ATX, since I want to have a decent PC but not wanting it to consume my entire desk space (I live in a dorm and shared a room with 4 people). And with that I need to buy a new case to fit the micro ATX board, since I don't have one that fits it. My old case (The Aerocool Aero 500) is being used to house my pfSense router, and it also pretty big to fit on my desk. - For the micro ATX case, I chose the Thermaltake Core V21. I like the design and it is not very expensive. - For the Cooler, I chose the Hyper 212X Turbo, It cost about $3 more than a 212 EVO. I plan to use the second fan of the 212X as the Case fan. - For the OS, I decided that I will try out Ubuntu. I want to learn more of UNIX based OS, so I think this is the chance to do it. - Thank you for the 3 people that have give me some suggestions and feedback, I really appreciate it. Thank you for your time, if you have any kind of suggestion or anything, I will be happy to hear it. Cheers, Timothy

I recently got hands on a dell Precision 690 for free. It has dual lga 771 5110 4M cache 1.6Ghz. and 8x2gb 667 ecc FB ram and a couple of hard drives. little research ive done on it says the cps are old, the socket is old but is it worth doing anything to it? don't know much for the xeon space but i had windows 8 running on it and it sill runs snappy and does basic task fine but haven't done anything servers or workstation like stuff on it yet. is it a junker or is there life still in this old heavy thing. Also is the case also out dated. I like the look, has enough space for a small family and all the io and pci cut outs are in the right spots but is that also outdated as well?

Hey guys I need a little help, My dad has a small business and I need to build a small server. Right now he has 2 desktops and 1 laptop and they are all networked and run the billing software off of 1 of the desktops with 2 hds in a raid and thats it, no other back up and the laptop and other desktop just access the "main pc" and write to the biller. What i'm looking for is a simple server that will have a little redundancy. I need a simple server that will host the biller and all the other pcs can then access and write to. Server will not do anything really other then the biller and host printers and fax ect... I need some help/recommendations on hardware. It doesn't need to be high power and in fact a low power system as it will run 24/7 would be cool, I want solid components tho as this is the backbone of his business. There is a budget to some degree so cant be data center quality stuff... I don't need tb's of space as again its only biller info so 1 tb is plenty however a raid or back up solution is almost a must. Any questions or suggestions I would really appreciate the help! Reliability is key bottom line. Thanks guys!

Linus seems to recommend the box as an anti-static resting place for motherboards, does this mean that a large cardboard sheet could be used effectively as an anti-statistic mat?

hey guys, im new to this forum, but i have been watching linus tech tips and ncix for a while now. i am currently building a workstation/gaming pc and i really need some advice on the components i need to put in it. my overall budget is $1600 and i need at least a 6core cpu to help me render faster with vray for sketchup since vray for sketchup uses cpu for rendering. heres my initial build: cpu: intel® Core™ i7-4930K Processor mobo: GIGABYTE GA-X79-UP4 LGA 2011 HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL 1TB GREEN SSD: KINGSTON HYPER-X 3K 120GB VC: R9-270X 4G GDDR5 256BIT DUAL-X & OC / R9-270X 2G TOXIC EDITION BY SAPPHIRE case: STORM SCOUT II BLACK or CORSAIR GRAPHITE 600T white cooling: CORSAIR HYDRO SERIES H100I PSU: Corsair 750w modular psu i already have ram modules. but i plan on getting those wonderful corsair dominators in the future. my main concern is whether i should go for an r9-270x or a more expensive nvidia gtx760, since i will be using google sketchup software and i am not sure whether amd or nvidia is the best road to go. also if you guys could recomment a cheaper psu prefferably modular and also a cheaper cpu cooler, since i wont be doing any extreme overclocks(this will be my first overclock, im afraid to push it very far, probably wont even oc it yet). your comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks and god bless:) ps: in the future i plan on getting a second graphics card and maybe another hard drive

Hey there! I hope you're having a great day!!! I'm having trouble with my build. Whenever I try to wake it from sleep, the computer randomly restarts itself for no reason. I think it must be the MOBO. I have a 4930k, 32 GB of RAM and 2 ASUS GTX780. Before upgrading I had an 1100t on a 990FXA-UD5 from Gigabyte and 1 GTX580 and had a similar problem: The PC waked itself up from sleep. Since that computer, I've changed ALL the hardware except for the keyboard (Blackwidow Ultimate) and 1 hard drive. This problem is driving me berzerk and I hope you guys can help me fix it! Cheers!

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to ask your opinions of this workstation I have a prospect of buying in the next 2-3 months for 4K and under, development. CPU: 3970x MOBO: Asus P9X79 WS 2011 Board GPU: Quadro k5000 or k6000 GPU Set 2: Titan Hydro Copper 2-Way SLI RAM: 64GB Corsair Dominator 2400mhz Case: Corsair 900D PSU: XFX 1000w 80+ Platinum Power Supply Hard Drives and SSDs: WD Black 1x, WD Red 3x (Redundancy for the coming SSD's), OCZ Vector (or other equal quality 512GB Drive) 8x, 5.25 Bays: Card Reader, Fan controller, Blu Ray Drive RAID Card: 16 port, RAID 10 Capable Drive Cooling: All necessary components liquid cooled with 10x 120mm rads I also have audio, a portable work computer, and all necessary peripherals accounted for as well. What do you think? For the 2 sets of GPUs I am going to devise a display port switch of some sort so I can go between using the Titans and the K6000 (or k5000) when I need to on the 4k displays. RAID ten array is for speed but also peace of mind knowing that any content can be restored. Thanks Very Much!
