Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind here and could really use some help. My PC is refusing to budge after a recent power outage. I'm rolling up my sleeves and trying to troubleshoot, but honestly, I'm feeling a bit lost. I've ruled out the power supply as the culprit – tested it on another rig, and it's working like a charm. Now, I've got my sights set on the motherboard. I attempted to kick-start it by briefly shorting the pins usually triggered by the power button (hope I'm using the right lingo), but sadly, no luck on the boot-up front. Any insights or guidance would be seriously appreciated My Specs: EX - H110M Intel Core i7-7700 16 GB Ram T-FORCE (TUF) RX580 Sata SSD CV 650

For a little info I have a RX 590, a evga 550 watt bronze+ power supply, a b450 A-csm motherboard and a ryzen 2600 cpu.. So i recently cleaned my computer out and after it wont turn on. I've found out that if the GPU power cables are plugged into the GPU, my PC wont turn on. Probably something dumb I did but if i plug in the cables while the pc IS turned on it makes a small static electricty sound and the pc will turn off. clarifying by turn on I mean the fan runs and everything. Best case scenario its only a bad power supply or bad power cables. I am gonna test the gpu in a friends pc but it wont be for awhile so im just asking for any tips until then for any clues to fix my problem.

Hey guys. I've been having this problem ever since I got my Pc and it happens at least once a month. i press the power button on my pc case and it won't turn on. So I have to unplug the pc, take the CMOS out and put it back in, then if I turn on the PC it turns on and boots up normally. I don't really know what the problem is and i hope you guys could help me out because I know there are a lot of people who are WAY smarter than me when it comes to PC's. My PC specs are 3900X with the stock cooler, RTX 2070 super from EVGA, 32 GB of G Skill Trident Z DDR4 ram, 500 GB NVME SSD and a 1 TB SSD. My motherboard is a Aorus B550 Master.

Just recently set up a brand new pc a week ago. Important Specs: Case: Corsair 4000x Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro PSU: Corsair CX650 RGB The 4000x’s on/off switch is inoperable. The Mem ok! motherboard switch forces the pc to boot, boot to the bios settings. Not sure what the cause is…. The case also (from Amazon) came with 2 Power SW cables and of course the other +/- cable included. I used the classic TechSource guide to build a PC if that’s of any help…?

I just built a new computer, some used parts some new parts but they were all used by me and I know they are in good working condition. All of the parts are compatable as I basically built my original pc again for a friend. When building I could not get the computer to turn on. I had to unplug the psu from the wall and press the power button on the case then after I plugged it back in, it turned on and I installed windows. It worked every time after that for me, but my friend is telling me that now, it randomly wont turn on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. What can cause this? How do I fix the computer?

Help me please... My only computer in my house (one that I built) is broken (I think), and I cannot get it to turn on. When I woke up this morning my computer was off and the case light on the power button was blinking. I looked in the case and none of the fans were moving so I thought that it was just off and tried to turn it back on by pushing the power button. However the computer did not turn on. So I turned the psu off and then back on and tried again. It was no longer blinking and I pushed the power button and the computer, turned on for about 2 seconds and then shut off again and the power button started blinking again. Please help,me figure out what this means. I really need to use this computer so that I can book a hotel for my upcoming vacation. Please help me... Computer specs: Case: NZXT H440 Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming CPU: AMD 8350 Graphics Card: RX 480 (Sapphire) Memory: Corsair Vengence Pro 16gb PSU: EVGA 750watt bronze SSD: PNY 240gb HDD: 1tb western digital Edit: I just tried turning it on again and I hurt a small puff and saw smoke arise from near my graphics card area, but it could have been anything beneath it... In staring to thing it was my PSU? PLEASE HELP!

Hello guys. This is my first ever post on the LMG forums and it is on a totally unexpected incident. I am from Malaysia and I recently bought a MSI GE62 laptop. It has been about a month since I bought it. A few hours ago, I was working on my projects when I realised the laptop was low on power so I decided to plug it in. Once I plugged it in, I noticed that my laptop wasn't charging. Instead, there was a red cross on the battery icon when I checked it on the task bar. I tried unplugging the adapter and plugging it in again and once I plugged it in, the laptop reached 5 percent battery life and just simply died. I tried charging the laptop but no lights will turn on. There are no signs of life at all. I am pretty bummed and frustrated by this incident as the MSI reps told me it could take as long as 3 weeks to get it fixed. I suspect the battery died and somehow the mobo got fried. I am not sure. You guys have any idea?

I took out the graphics card of my PC so I could test this other GPU and I took out the hard drives + their cables so it would be easier -> I put my graphics card I use back into my PC and I plugged both my hard drives in. Now my PC wont start, it turns on but it just shows a black screen, All the fans are spinning inside my PC when I turn it on and my monitors detect the PC as a display. <>PLEASE HELP ME<> I need to get this problem fixed as soon as possible because I have important business to attend to!

So, my Chromebook won't turn on, even with a full battery. I know it won't boot (and not just not activate screen) as the USB ports don't power devices. When it is plugged in, however, it boots fine with no hitches whatsoever. My current theory is the battery is dislodged from the connector or has malfunctioned (Some of my previous Windows laptops would function fine with no battery, as long as it was plugged into the wall). I don't know what model number this chromebook is (the bottom label has faded beyond reading). What I DO know is that it was manufactured by Toshiba and has Skullcandy audio. It has 2 USB ports, 1 SD, one HDMI and a headphone jack. I would appreciate advice as to what to do and how to find out what model this is. I am fairly comfortable with opening it and doing some laptop surgery, but this will be my first time.

Hi there,I had some problems with software on my pc. I was going to uninstall it and re install it. My pc froze whilst it was uninstalling. I then force restarted my pc thinking that the worse that can happen is the program I was uninstalling could get could get corrupt, I was wrong. When my PC restarted it took a while and brought up a disk check screen, I skipped it thinking that it came up because I force restarted my PC. It then froze and I so I force restarted it. I then turned on my PC again and it brought up a automatic repair screen. Then it went blank. It will not boot into the automatic repair screen. i restarted my pc and the same thing happened. I then created a bootable USB stick with windows 10 on it so I can do a system restore point to see if that will help. So I plugged it in and booted into it. The windows logo flashed up and after 15 seconds it went blank. I then unplugged my SSD with windows installed onto it. I booted into the USB drive and it booted. I could install Windows, but that's not what I created it for and the drive that needs repairing was not plugged in. I then plugged my SSD back in and tried to boot the USB. The windows logo flashed up again for 15 seconds and then went blank again. I think my SSD is corrupted but I only got it 4 mouths ago and I don't see how that will top me booting into Windows on my USB Stick. At the moment I'm backing up my usb 3.0 drive and I'm going to make that a bootable USB with Windows 10 on it. Failing that I have no other way of fixing this. I tried my USB 3.0 drive and it did the something as with my other bootable USB driveAny help is appreciated Thanks -Archie P.S Here is my SSD

So my pc worked a few days ago and I have all the parts except the case. And I've used it for around 2 weeks without one. And like usual I would always turn the pc on by using a screwdriver and touching power + with -. But a few days ago I was using it and during my time it just shut off. And it won't turn back on. The motherboard Led's are lighting up green but trying to power it on with a screwdriver doesent even make the fans flick. I've tried using a different power supply and cable and they work. Used mine in a working of and worked. So it's not the PSU. The ram should work and I removed it to clean the pc and put it in the same spot and tried the other slots, nothing. I took off the CPU cooler and put it back in and connected the cable. Still nothing. I don't have my gpu connected atm. Pc Specs : i5-2500 with stock cooler 2x4gb ram 450w psu ASUS P8H67-M EVO (motherboard) I also did the thing where you take twizerz and touch the green with black cable and my cpu fan spun up and power supply but only while connected. As soon as I removed it it shuts down. And only CPU and psu fan spun no signal still. Any help is appreciated at this point thank you.

Turned on the computer, amd stock fan turns on, lights up. GPU fans spin (then turn off) but lights remain. No display, stays black, so I tried putting in a system speaker from my old computer, tried again, no beeps. Tested the display on another computer, display is fine. Tried the motherboard AND gpu hdmi. I have AB350M PRO4 motherboard. GTX 1080TI Strix Corsair Vengeance led 16gb 3000mhz my motherboard only supports 2667mhz but i'm reading, and even on their site, that ram should lower down to that mhz anyway. It's not on their supported list which is ringing alarm bells, but have read others saying their systems have worked with it. PSU is a seasonic prime titanium 650w It turns on to the point of fans and leds turning on, but nothing comes up on the screen. Unless I have to give it a few minutes? Tried both ram slots, no dice either way. They light up/ Any ideas? Would it definitely be a ram issue? System speaker won't make any noise to give me any hints and the motherboard website has no real troubleshooting,

i recently moved 500 miles and had to put my computer in storage for a month, and then i moved my computer to my new home. when i plugged it in and turned it on, it would turn on and off, and on, and off, every couple of seconds. it finally let me get in the bios where i disable OC. it would then turn on just fine. (but a few of the USB ports in the back were not reliable). the computer worked just fine when i was browsing the web, but when i played a game (overwatch) i was getting terrible FPS. when i tried to restart it it would not turn back on again, but instead did the on off on off cycle every couple of seconds. I think it the motherboard got damaged durring the move, but i am not sure. it could also be the RAM or PSU. I already tried the following -making sure all the power plugs are plugged in correctly -making sure the ram is seated correctly -look for visually damaged parts (there were none) because the computer will not even post, i do not think software has anything to do with it. my specs are the following i7 4770k, 1080 TI, 2x 16GB DDR3 ram, 600W 80+ bronze power supply, MSI z87-g41 motherboard. also because of the move, i am broke. i could probably afford to buy up to $200 in parts. so my question; what is most likely the problem, and is there a way for me to test the parts without buying replacements parts? (remember, i am broke, so i do not want to buy a part on a "maybe this will fix it" unless i have no other choice) and can i maybe fix it without replacing any parts (wishful thinking, i know)

hi I have just replaced my battery in my Samsung Galaxy S2 10.1 I am able to charge it and it is now 100% charged but I am unable to turn it on. I have tried the many tips I have found online to reset it etc but most are more concentrated on the no charging new battery. I have removed the battery and put it back again as well. Mine is charged so that isn't something that needs fixing. Help please..

Modular psu turns off when sata power is plugged in
PsuedoNeophyte posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Ive recently bought a new power supply for PC, and upon testing it at first it looked fine, the computer turned on and everything. But now after attaching the modular cables, the system would just turn on then off. After some testing, I've narrowed it down to the sata power cable ports. It only shuts off when something is plugged into the cable, I've tried hard drives and fans with the same issue. Does anyone know what this is?- 5 replies

I own an Acer "Aspire 3 A315 53 PM4Y"(Intel 4417u/4GB soldered + 4GB SODIMM DDR4/SSD+HDD). It’s a year old. Suddenly shut down today morning, following a few seconds of rattling/buzzing noise from the speakers. Not sure if it showed BSOD, had gone away for a moment. However, the sound was present even when the screen had turned black. This was followed by a complete shutdown. Had Ms-word, browser and Spotify on. No connected devices. Running on stable AC with at ~60%. It felt mildly warm. The device is often used for these activities, besides video conferences, streaming and occasional gaming. Won’t turn on. Static black screen. Display backlight turns on for a few seconds before turning off. Fans don’t spin on pressing power (they never did and started spinning after some time when things heated up.) The HDD is spinning, the vibrations can be felt. Blue Power LED flashes once and stays solid for 5 seconds or so, then flashes again(loop). Charging LED turns on as usual when plugged in. Tried hard resetting by pressing the button down for 10s, did not work. External display won’t work either. Have not removed the battery yet (it’s pretty hard to, here.)I did not notice any symptoms of a short or burn on the MOBO. Tried removing and reseating the removable stick of ram. Did not work either way. Requesting help troubleshooting. Thanks in advance!

So here's my issue: When I try to turn it on, the power indicator flashes briefly for a second and the hdd gives off a little spin up noise for a short moment and then it's dead again. When I plug in a charger and then try to power it on the same thing happens + the charge indicator flashes orange, then white and it is dead once more. There's nothing coming up on the display, the hard drive shuts off after a second, the fan doesn't even wind up and the charger doesn't seem to be doing much when left alone, since it wont heat up at all. I've tried fiddling around via trying to do stuff with the buttons, but it just refuses to stay alive. Note: I have used this laptop before, even just hours before this happened. Also it's pretty new, bought it days ago. I have absolutely no clue what has gone wrong. Also the battery is built in and the OS is installed on an ssd, not the hdd. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, My Dell Inspiron 15 7559 Gaming Laptop screen has been acting very strangely lately. Upon shutting down or restarting and turning the computer back on, the screen very rarely turns back on. However, the actual computer still functions normally as I can plug (using an HDMI cable) it into any TV and it will display the screen just fine on there (but the laptop screen never turns on even after flipping between mirror screen, single screen, etc). So this, I believe, rules out any video card issues (there is a built-in Intel card and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GD DR5). The strange part is that eventually (meaning usually at least a few hours) the laptop screen will turn back on if you leave the computer on and don't touch it. But, the screen is never "normal" upon it first turning back on. Referencing the two attached pictures, there is usually some sort of rectangular glow around the border of the screen. In one picture, you can see a faint glow of a rectangle outline marked by the red arrows. In the other, there is a very clear rectangle glowing around the border (and no, I promise that is not a horrible Photoshop effect, though I did blur some file names for privacy). But! Again, eventually those bizarre rectangles will fade away and the screen will go back to normal after a few hours. Then, once the screen has turned on and the rectangles have disappeared, the computer and screen operate totally normally for as long as the computer is left on. So far the screen has never turned back off without being told to do so. If the screen is closed and turns off (even if the computer is still on), it will remain off and the cycle begins again from square one. There have been no artifacts on the screen and the screen does not flicker or behave differently if the screen is moved or bent slightly. There are no dead pixels from what I can tell. Even when the rectangles are glowing on the screen, everything still works and they essentially act just like a stationary layer on top of the rest of the screen. I haven't been able to boot into any of the diagnostic tools since the screen never turns on, even after pressing the buttons on startup (these screens won't display on a TV). Has anyone ever encountered this problem before, heard about it, know what's causing this, or know of a solution? I have no idea what could be causing this since the screen will eventually return to normal and never turn off unexpectedly. I have a few theories but I would like to hear what you think before I bias any opinions. If you have any questions before you can give an answer I'm happy to try my best to answer them. Thanks so much!

I was watching a YouTube video on my second monitor while fortnite was loading, and suddenly my second monitor stopped receiving anything from the PC and the main monitor froze. So I turned my PC off (by holding the power button until it turned off) and then turned it on, the PC lit up and the fans started spinning up but my keyboard didn't and the monitors didn't receive anything from it. I tried turning it off and on again but the same thing happened. any idea why this happened and how can I fix it? (if it can even be fixed) UPDATE: It happened again. Twice! how can I fix it?

Hi, I built my first pc over a month ago but i ran into my first problem I was loading into a game and as i loaded in, all my systems components shut off, all my fans stopped and my monitor lost signal, my powerbutton led was still on and my motherboards led all turned on(i have them set off normally) and it wouldn't turn off when i held the powerbutton i had to flick the switch in the back (probably a bad idea). Ive tried removing my graphics card and nothing and tried firing it up with no ram and nothing. Please help! I have no idea what to do My build is a msi x470 gaming pro Ryzen 2200g 3.2gzh Asus Gtx 1050ti Phoenix Corsair cx500w I cant remember the brand of ram but 8gs at 2800mhz.

I bought a Chuwi lapbook 14.1 (would not recommend) for basic things, it's not intensive or for gaming, just watching movies, it was a cheap solution for curing plane boredom. I bought it, went home and played about with it. Perfect, absolutely no issues. After a few days, if even, started playing up. WiFi killed itself, have to use an adapter now, Bluetooth died, audio jack broke itself, Hence, would not recommend. The company speaks Chinese so their support time is very lacking, can't get a refund because they don't understand me. But now, the worst of the worst, I can resolve the WiFi, Audio and Bluetooth issues with USB plug ins, but now... it only turns on with the charger in. Once it's on it will stay on, charger disconnected or not, but until it's plugged in I cannot turn it on. Obviously this is no good for a plane because I can't charge it on there. It's not the charger, because it works. It's not the battery, because it stays on even when the charger is disconnected. And it's not the charger port because it does charge. I have no reasonable solutions. I couldn't tell you any specs because the documentation is lacking and all the system information is false. Any help appreciated.

System Specs: CPU: Intel - Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor GPU: GTX 1070 Strix 6GB RAM: G.Skill - Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Motherboard: Asus - Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard PSU: SeaSonic - 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (Original PSU) OS: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit So I have a strange problem here, my PC won't turn on even though there are lights on the motherboard and GPU that would be there if it was normally working. I opened it up, and literally all I did was switch the RAM sticks and then the PC booted up normally and worked perfectly fine, until I turned it off again, when the problem continued. At first I thought the PSU was dead, but the next day it booted up fine when I hit the power button, and worked again when I turned it off. Normal function resumed for about 2 days until last night, when the problem happened again; I didn't mess with the internals of the computer at all during that 2 day period. It didn't fix itself like last time (or it hasn't yet). To find out if it was the PSU, I took another PSU that I knew worked from another computer and installed it into mine, and the problem persists(same wattage on the new one). I tried switching the RAM again. Nothing (except those LEDs on the mobo and GPU which are still there.) So, does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? It is a 3 year old PC so maybe it just croaked? I have no clue at this point.
