Peekaboo WikiLeaks releases a new batch of leaked CIA projects that target Apple products that is code named Dark Mater, The second release in the series details the techniques that WikiLeaks claims are employed by CIA assets to compromise Apple devices between the manufacturing line and the end user. The new released files contains documentation for several CIA projects that infect Apple Mac firmware Among others, these documents reveal the "Sonic Screwdriver" project which, as explained by the CIA, is a "mechanism for executing code on peripheral devices while a Mac laptop or desktop is booting" allowing an attacker to boot its attack software for example from a USB stick "even when a firmware password is enabled". The CIA's "Sonic Screwdriver" infector is stored on the modified firmware of an Apple Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter. Another documentation being NightSkies tool made specifically for iPhone. NightSkies version 1.2 had been out since 2008 and according to WikiLeaks was specifically designed to be installed on factory fresh iPhones. Apple later claimed that they fixed the issue ,but Wikileaks counteracted that this is not a zero day exploit & it is still vulnerable , In other note Assange offered the affected companies around 3 months (90 days) for them to provide encryption keys to WikiLeaks in order for them to communicate details of the exploits. But so far most of em contacted him via another secure channel , so far the details havent been shared unless they agree with Assanges terms of communication , Microsoft , google have made contact with him on this , But so far no real info was exchanged Source: https://wikileaks.org/vault7/darkmatter/releases/ News Sources: (details are muddy , be careful) https://9to5mac.com/2017/03/23/wikileaks-vault-7-cia-exploits-mac-iphone/ http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2017/03/23/wikileaks-claims-cia-could-bug-reset-iphones/99529206/ https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/23/technology/cia-spying-mac-computers-wikileaks.html?_r=0

source: https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/ It has been done! wikileaks got their hands on a compresive list of CIA tools used to break into computers, phones and other systems across the globe. Down below there will be a few quoted pieces from the source, this is quite a major finding if you ask me. Title: Press release Title: CIA malware targets Windows, OSx, linux, routers Title: CIA 'hoarded' vulrnabilities ("zero days") this is big and drastic, besides what I named there is also a piece which claims that the US consulate in frankfurt(Germany) is actually a base for CIA hacker's within europe, the middle east and africa. as always it's hard to tell how much is true since it is wikileaks, but then again I wouldn't be amazed if this is all true, it's the CIA afterall, which has a "reasonable" reputation for acting outside US borders.

In an Ars Technica article, there is some information on Wikileaks releasing over 8000 CIA documents concerning various tools that they are using to access computer networks and targets in Latin America, Europe and the US. According to the article: There is also mention of an MI5 project called 'Weeping Angel' where they were able to turn a Samsung Smart TV into a listening device... https://arstechnica.com/security/2017/03/wikileaks-publishes-what-it-says-is-trove-of-cia-hacking-tools/ I typically try not to be too paranoid cause I'm fairly sure there is not much information that I have of interest to the government, but this is fairly creepy... Hopefully there are some new security patches that companies can put out there that fill in some of these holes now...

Wikileaks has just released some documentation on another one of the CIA tools which appears to have a neat trick and name. The Pandemic Tool infects a target computer that has shared folders and will begin to distribute malware instead of the requested file when someone downloads it via SMB. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/cia-malware-can-switch-clean-files-with-malware-when-you-download-them-via-smb/ According to the article, this little gem of malicious code can be difficult to detect as when a local user accesses one of the shared files, it will execute the clean version. The only two methods so far to detect this tool appear to be for a sysadmins to download and scan the files from another computer via SMB or via: I have to admit that this is an interesting little bug that the CIA either cooked up or paid to have cooked up, especially considering how much work it would appear that you have to go through to find it...

Oh shit ! is that a drone? The government of Ecuador confirmed on Tuesday that it had decided “to temporarily restrict access” to the internet inside its embassy in London, effectively cutting off Julian Assange the editor of Wikileaks, who has lived there since he was granted political asylum in 2012. The action was carried out by state level intervention intentionally to disrupt communications The internet restriction was applied over fears that he was using it to interfere in the US presidential election. Assange later responded through his twitter that they have activated the appropriate contingency plans << Painfully accurate image its a two sided game , there's pretty much more than equal amounts of shit being thrown at each candidates to make the other look less dirty, mind the fact it's a politician vs non-politician thing , but like someone said actual crime doesnt matter , you know the game , basic see-saw distraction , one of e goes down the other one goes up. The statement also reaffirmed the asylum granted to Assange and reiterated its intention “to safeguard his life and physical integrity until he reaches a safe place”. Meaning their primary priority is to well being , maybe they made a temporary restriction to address an essential ongoing trade it's not the photograph with the hand in the cookie jar that matters, it's the one who took the picture , that's the real crookie criminal Wikileaks most recently leaks include emails hacked from the Gmail account of the Clinton campaign chairman, John Podesta, which included partial transcripts of paid speeches Clinton gave to Wall Street bankers after her tenure as secretary of state. At the end of the day it's basic politics , doesn't matter if it's truth or lie, people believe in what they want to believe promises , they will adhere to whoever provides most reasonable answers to their current problems , people use this whole shibangabang to throw in whatever they have to win , whether is Trump supporter or Clinton supporter , we're seeing how aggressive things are turning into, there's a difference between grounded hard evidence vs emotional jolting accusation , what to believe , depends on the persons history of influences , translates into what you see nowadays Russian president responded vaguely to the rumor that Russian influence in the hacking attempt (English subtitled) Mini Transcript : President Vladmir Putin : " In ANY event , we will work with any US leader , whoever that leader is, What are we witnessing? Some hacker published information about the unseemly conduct of Mrs.Clinton's campaign headquarters , supporting one candidate for the party nomination at the expense of the other , Hysterical accusations that this is in Russia's interests , They freak out about it to distract the attention of the American people from the importance of what was published by the hackers , The importance is that public opinion is being manipulated , but nobody talks about it ( US/international media) , Everyone is talking about who did it? , But is it so important who did it? , What is important is the content of this information " isnt it kinda weird mainstream/general media is criticizing wikileaks journalism , the stuff actual media journalism is supposed to do? but that's a thought for you to think through Even a bigger issue is that wiki leaks have had a copy of their encrypted but uncensored database in all it's fury out available for public with a deadmans switch , which in case of his somewhat mysterious death or restriction to access of Julian assange , a decryption key would be released & be made available publicly from multiple sources (this guys probably still alive because of this) , it was reported the switch wasn't pulled due to the delay in access from him online, for the time being & the sensitive data is still encrypted Recently the Russian international journalistic channel RT was restricted from withdrawing funds from British bank accounts, But the British bank has denied reports it closed the UK accounts of RT , assuming it was an indirect pressured response from the political influence connecting tho this, Most probably a response to Email hacking accusations Sources: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/ecuador-cuts-off-internet-access-for-wikileaks-founder-assange/2016/10/18/277281f6-95ac-11e6-9b7c-57290af48a49_story.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/19/ecuador-admits-cutting-julian-assanges-internet-access-over-impa/ https://theintercept.com/2016/10/18/ecuador-cuts-internet-access-julian-assange-preserve-neutrality-us-election/ https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/oct/19/wikileaks-ecuador-julian-assange-internet-access http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37680411 http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/10/wikileaks-ecuador-admits-cutting-assange-internet-161019055948619.html http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/19/world/europe/julian-assange-embassy.html?_r=0 http://gizmodo.com/ecuador-confirms-it-has-cut-off-julian-assanges-interne-1787949101 http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-cyber-wikileaks-idUSKBN12H2E9

Looks like Equador withdrew Julian Assange's asylum and allowed the London police to enter the embassy to arrest him. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/wikileaks-founder-julian-assange-arrested-police-london-n991236 Curious to see how this ends up going. Sweden already dropped the charges, but the UK still wanted him for skipping bail. The US still wants him to hang as well. I'm guessing he'll be extradited to the US, where he'll get 30+ years but a presidential pardon at some point in the next 10 years. I'm well aware that this is bordering on not being tech news. However there have been Assange-related topics in the past. UPDATE : London Metropolitan Police confirm that he has been arrested at the request of the U.S., with the intention to be extradited. So this arrest is indeed directly related to the Wikileaks leaks.

Not much here, other than group think doing what group think does. Source: http://thenextweb.com/facebook/2016/07/25/facebook-wikileaks-links/ Well, I'm not surprised considering Facebook's history of blocking things. I'm surprised that twitter hasn't done the same. Especially when you consider how much pull the DNC apparently has over CNN, MSNBC, and Reuters. The original title is "Facebook admits blocking Wikileaks' DNC email links, but won't say why". But I didn't use that title because I don't see any evidence of Facebook admitting that, and refusing or failing to say why. P.S: Alex Stamos is a "security executive" for Facebook, according to his linkdin page. Although with recent history in mind, despite his response, this still stinks to high heaven. Thoughts?

So I found this whilst browsing around this morning. Source: http://gizmodo.com/google-handed-stacks-of-wikileaks-email-straight-to-the-1681758103 More Details: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/25/wikileaks-google-staff-emails-us-government All of this coming from the administration that originally claimed that it would be the "most transparent administration ever". While some people might have a problem with Wikileaks, remember that this administration has secured more jail time for whistleblowers than the all of the past presidents in US history combined, source: http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2015/01/obama-imprisoned-whistleblowers-times-longer-presidents-combined.html So. What do we think?

Today there was a live stream from the Auckland town hall, I only caught the ending to it, but it was very interesting to hear what Glenn Greenwald, Snowden, Assange, Kim Dotcom and others had to say. It was chilling in parts to see the levels that the New Zealand government were involved with the NSA spying and the 5 eye's program. I don't have time at the moment to give my full thoughts on it. But if you are interested here is the archive up on youtube. Coverage starts around 21 mins which I think I queued it up for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbps1EwAW-0#t=1313

As many of you know, Wikileaks has posted some questionable material which may or may not have been illegal to do so. To cover their tracks they encrypted 349GB of data in case anything would happen to them in the near future which was posted several times on their Facebook page. This was first seen when hacker "SuperDAE" released a 1.7TB torrent when he was arrested in June. Could this be linked to Snowden and the NSA? Whatever it is it's obviously quite significant and has the possibility of harming whoever's content is inside. WikiLeaks releases draft of TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Intellectual Property Rights Chapter. This is pretty awful stuff and will effect the entire world should it be instated. Imagine a world where Viacom has the ability to enforce laws, a world where letting your friend use your Netflix account will land you a fine of a few thousand dollars or jail time. http://wikileaks.org/tpp/ If this doesn't seem ideal to you join the EFF if you aren't already a member https://supporters.eff.org/donate/join-eff
