Hi. I some industrial machines that have there one PC with all the software that the machines needs to work. Some PC's have win xp others have win 98. So i cant upgrade to a newer version of windows because the software are not compatible with newer versions of windows and even if wase compatible the configuration processes are complicated. I allready have done one machine and its working fine but on the 2nd machine i have encouter a issue. Im using a Solftware called Disk2VHD and on the 1st machine i made the VHD file on the physical and worked fine now doing the same on the 2nd machine it dosent start "cloning" and gives me a error of "ERROR: INCORRECT FUNCION". So i took the HDD from the physical machine and using a HDD Dock i connected to my win 11 machine., and the "cloning" start but at the end it get stock and dosent give me any error just stops. I allready try to use StarWind V2V Converter but no success. on 26% it gives me a error "error read file" Any one have a solucion ou a alternative?

Put simply the biggest annoyance for me with pc gaming is steam updates. They don't happen automatically and since my pc is turned off except when I use it I have to wait for updates often. So If I had a linux VM with steam installed is it possible to make steam update games instantly? Then since steam transfers over LAN would it just pass It to my gaming pc? I have Gbit so the main slowdown is decompressing does steam transfer decompressed versions of the updates? Steam cache would be pointless since my internet speed is easily fast enough to saturate my ssd with decompression. My main goal is to get around decompression. this might sound like a none issue but if the only down side for me is some extra storage space used I don't see it as a waste. Any help appreciated!

We purchased a new Dell PowerEdge R250 server for one of our business customers. In that new server is a 1TB SSD with no OS installed. They currently own a 10+ year old Dell PowerEdge T320 with Windows Server 2019 Essentials installed and activated. We have created a Virtual Hard Disk using Disk2vhd and ultimately want to spin up that VM on the hard drive in the new server. What kind of host OS needs to be installed to run the VHD made from the previous server's hard drive? Can it be activated with the same license key as the guest OS (the one activated in the VHD that was created from the previous server's hard drive)? If not, and we only get to migrate the activation key from the previous server's hard drive to be used in the guest OS on the new hard drive, does that mean we have to pay for another activation key for the host OS on the new hard drive?

Hi, first time poster, long time viewer coming for advice. Backstory: I have decided to make myself a fully virtual Windows Server 2022 lab with HA, Clustering, Backups, File Server, and all that, maybe even use it as a NAS of sorts (yea, I know, Linux is probably better suited for servers but I'm one of those people that get to work in full Windows environments at work and having a lab with a similar setup to learn some more or test things out would be great). Issues: My constraint is physical space - I can't dedicate any more space for another PC, but I already have an HTPC in the house. The problem list / requirements: I want to run a bare metal hypervisor (preferrably Hyper-V, but I could tolerate VMware if what I'm looking for is not possible on Hyper-V) On that hypervisor I want to run one VM for the WinSrv lab and one VM for the HTPC Win10/11 I want the HTPC system to be easily accessible through the connected keyboard, mouse, and display in such a way, that if my girlfriend were to go watch Netflix in the living room, she wouldn't even notice that she's doing that on a VM. I want the whole setup to be as minimal in maintenance as possible. I've got enough administrative overhead in my life, and I really don't need the whole HTPC/LAB thing to become a "pool water-cooling project" or "living room audio project" of my house if possible The question: How do I even do that? I was wondering if it was possible to give the HTPC VM a dedicated physical HDMI port and USB ports so the physical computer will just output to the TV by default. Is that possible? Do any of you have experience with running that kind of setup? Is a dedicated GPU required then, or can I get by using an iGPU on a Ryzen 5700G? Is there something obvious I'm not taking into account here, or maybe a better, faster and easier solution? All help would be greatly appreciated

Howdy! I'm looking to build a home server using proxmox. The cpu will be an i5 12600k and with that I was curious if there would be an issue with selecting efficiency or performance cores. Since the i5 has 6Pcores and 4E cores. Will proxmox be able to discern? Or will it prioritize the Pcores when I'm assigning VMs certain cores? Is it possible to dedicate the Ecores to running proxmox and the P cores to running my VMs?

I am trying to run multiple VMs on proxmox with GPU passthrough. But my two accounts got banned by Activision for warzone2 and modern warfare registered through steam, in which one of them was just created and wasn't even played. Can somebody help me regarding this issue. such that i can run multiple vms without getting banned. Thanks!!!!

Hello guys, Ok so here me out, this will be a wild ride (it has been for me atleast). With about 4 days scraping every corner of the internet, I am getting to the border of what I could do by myself. I am trying to emulate a MacOS X Tiger or atleast with Rosetta working on it so I can make a very old software (early 2000s) work for my job. They got a bit lazy and now they don't have backups for this kind of tasks. The aim is to be able to have a VM that could be installed on separate computers to make the software work on computers. We also aim to get out of the Mac echosystem since we are using only windows and Linux, and this dinosaur is the last remanant piece of Apple's hardware in the office. The soft works actually with a Mac on Tiger 10.4, so this is the thing I want to emulate. SO, what have I done during these few days I already invested on this side-project? - I tried to get .iso files of MacOS and now I have basically too much of them - I managed to make High Sierra, Snow Leopard and was close to get Tiger to launch on VirtualBox 7.0.8 - tried to get my hands on QEMU on windows and in a Linux VM but I am not very proficient with the commands or the software at all - looked into emulating a PowerPC but I didn't get far as all repositories seem to be too old, or on QEMU, and I don't master this soft at all. Even if I wish I did. - Discovered that Unicorn Engine exists, but the soft I want to use is the kind of "done by a scientist 25 yrs ago just to do a thing on that computer" grade of soft. You could tell me : "Hey Geo, you have Snow Leopard running, enjoy your rosetta and have a good day!" I hoped it could be done like that, but.... Even if during the install of the Snow Leopard OS, I asked for Rosetta to be installed, it seems I don't have it anywhere in the VM, even after updating the OS in the VM (See picture below). Screen capture of the VM running Snow Leopard, with Rosetta installed but not showing any sign of life. Normally, I should see a "open with Rosetta" option, which is obviously not here. I also tried to make other older VMs, but I can't manage to get my .iso to boot on any VMs. Tiger is close to boot (I guess) but sends me these errors. Screen capture of the error on the Tiger VM , even with VM settings from an internet repository. Well so this resumes it all. The objective of this project is to get MacDiff (old software from the PowerPC era) to work, idealy on a VM that I can copy-past on multiple computers. Should be somewhat simple, but I am having quite the troublee to get it to work. Feel free to provide any advice or idea, I am not a programmer or anything, just a persone that likes working with computers in his room, so I have some limits but I think this project is cool Let's go software archeologists!

I am wanting to create a proxmox server that would be running a freenas VM and a Windows VM with a couple other containers so that the computer could act as a storage server and run another Dedicated windows machine. Whenever the Windows VM would be started I would like it to have peripherals connected to it and it be able to output to a physical display connected to the gpu passed to the VM. I have followed the proxmox tutorials to successfully be able to set up a windows VM with GPU passthrough. I am now running into issues getting Nvidia drivers installed (the gpu does show up in device manager) and an output to be produced on an external monitor. Any help with this issue or pointers on how to get this setup to work is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, So basically I want to setup a 2 Gamers 1 CPU through a Ryzen Platform. 7 Gamers 1 CPU is definitely a huge project and I plan to build one for my purposes. My intent is to upgrade my current Plex Server and use it so my brother and I can game on it, me in particular through "cloud" since we don't live in the same house. Tried using Moonlight + Gamestream on a friend's PC through Nvidia Shield and it felt incredible with no notable lag in casual gaming. So my question around this is if AMD are worth the effort? Thinking in buying the following to my project: - AMD 5900x or 5800x - X570 Motherboard - (4x16) 64gb Trident Z 3200mhz - 2x 970 Evo Plus 1TB - 2x Nvidia 3000 / AMD 6000 Is this project doable? The budget is merely for example and mainly for CPU/MB/RAM/SSD combo since GPU are impossible to gather nowadays. The PC itself is to be made in stages. Budget (including currency): 1000€ - 2000€ Country: Portugal Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Plex Server, High-end titles Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I have a Unraid VM and I am attempting to pass through a network card to run a game server on it. It is a Windows 10 VM, there is nothing on it at the moment because it has no internet so I can't download anything. I tried following the instructions from this forum post, but the virutal machine still didn't have ethernet. The network card shows up in device manager but its under other devices instead of network adapters where it is supposed to be.

Hello I'm building a 1 CPU 4 user type build. why because I want to simplify my home computers. what I want is tower to be in office Wife office setup setup in lounge gaming myself And remote gaming for each of my boys How remote connection isn't issue but I'm seeking information in relation to what cpu to pick. It will b a threadripper but I'm finding it hard to work out if it can handle everything I'm after All be VM based with passthroughs GPU and USB. Each setup In system will have 4gpus pcie3 X 8 each (2x16 worth of bandwidth) as they will split down to 4 GPU x8. 1 USB passthrough for each of the remote spot 4 total. And 4 SSD for each operating system. Then on-top I'd like to fit in 4 SSD drive raid setup all systems can access off motherboard. My question how many lanes and what cpu would be needed My guess is 32 lanes for GPUs 16 lanes for OS ssds 16 lanes for raid ssds 4 lanes for controller USB =70 lanes is that right Would spec me to get a 3960x would allow 6 cores per system 16gb ddr4 each. A GPU each and a NAS for everyone to store there files .

Please and thank you before I start, any help appreciated and if this exists else where and isn't 1-3 years old, point me at it. Also If this would be better suited somewhere else, point me there too. I want to transition from FreeNAS to something more capable, as I need GPU pass through for a VM, but I literally barely know how to use FreeNAS. I have managed to set it up how I like and the less difficult the transition, the better. I understand that I may need to rebuild my arrays from scratch. I understand I will have to redo the iocage/jails/plugins that FreeNAS currently has “perfectly” setup. I guess, first question: Can I move a real FreeNAS install, to a VM FreeNAS in an Unraid install? Second question: Do I need to move them, couldn’t I just point to the USB as a boot drive and it would just “work”? Or no? Question the third: Does someone have step by step instructions for me to follow? Fourth: Is my server powerful enough? It handles FreeNAS fine, but the dinky VM I currently use, feels so under powered. Allocated 4 cores and 8gb of ram. And the last question: If not Unraid, then what? Cost for Unraid is not unreasonable for a setup that is better than my experience with FreeNAS. Ie zero data loss in 4 years, but countless plugin rebuilds. For some reason eventually they just didn’t work properly anymore, and an upgrade of FreeNAS and new installs of plugins was a major hassle, but doable. Requirements I’d like to add an RTX2070 for VM use and set up a VM. Also if I have to rebuild from scratch, set up either 16x4TB-(2x4TB)=~56TB for 2 drive failure, or 16x4TB-(4x4TB)=~48TB for 4 drive failure. Current Server Configuration: Software OS = FreeNAS 11.3-U5 Plugins = Plex Pass, Sonarr, Radarr, MineOS VM = Ubuntu 18.04, running PIA and Transmission Hardware CPU = 2x Intel Xeon X5675 @ 3.07GHz RAM = 6x SK Hynix 16GB 2Rx4 PC3L-10600R-9 DDR3 1333 ECC Motherboard = ASUS Z8NA-D6C HBA = 2x SAS 9211-8i Boot USB RAID 1 = 2x Toshiba 32GB Pool: System RAID 1 ZFS = 2x 2TB WD RED Pool: NAS RAIDZ2 ZFS = 16x 4TB WD RED Case = Chenbro RM41416 4U Rackmount Power Supply = 3x Emacs MX1-5375p 375W (in n+1 Redundancy) Cooler = 2x Thermaltake Water 3.0 Performer C

I find my self in multiple locations and in need of accessing the same desktop/file system. My main pc that i use for design is a 9820x with 32gb and a 2070super. and its awesome for everything except its a full tower and i cant tote it around my property. I run some other rather outdated pcs in various locations, one is a ali express special with a e5-2670, and some are a 6th gen g4400 in my office, garage, shop, ect. the goal is to swap the systems for thin clients so access the same user login/file system and offload the work load to one of my servers. I have a pile of monitors, keyboards, mice, ect. I just know absolutely nothing about doing so and i was looking for some help or direction in getting there. My mother works from home and two different offices. when she starts work she types in her login : stuff/name and her pw but everything moves to the current login. files and programs, but it always uses the printer/fax attached to her thin client My main server is a x9dri-ln4f+ with a pair of e2660/96gb eecddr3 ~96tb spinning disks It hosts a few minecraft java servers, Valheim, Plex and all my data storage My x8dtl-if pair of x5670/24gb eecddr3 is responsible for my home DVR for my security cameras I also have a pair of offline Dell 2950-3 with x5355s/24gb and some other various older hardware I run windows 10 but i also have a license for server 08 and server 03, and all the older windows os 7,xp,vista,98,95,nt a laptop sounds great but one that would handle some of the cad files i work with its more then i wanna pay especially for garage use i get all kinds of shavings in my keyboards as well as grease and other stuff. i like to make adjustments while i work Is what I'm looking for a VM? or are there better options? Would i need to add a graphics card to one of my servers or can the CPUs brute their way into things? Where can i find a guide or software either on the free or cheep side of things?

Hello, I wanted to know what free VM software to use? Maybe VirtualBox? I don't know Do you have any sugestions?

Hey Guys, title pretty much says it all. Fresh install of Windows 10 (right after the OOBE) on a Windows 11 host using VirtualBox (6.1.30). Issue appears to happen after I install the VirtualBox Guest Additions (which include the video driver). Of course I could run it without a driver but then I cant get 1920x1080. I tested in Kali linux and it seems to work perfectly fine. Also to note, pretty much all the menus are super slow when it comes to clicking on stuff and without the driver, seems really snappy. I've already tried reinstalling windows with a newly created iso using the MediaCreationTool off of Microsoft's website. But other then that, there's not much I've found online so don't really know where to go from here. Attached is a video of the issue. 2021-11-29 17-05-05.mp4 Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

So this is the scenario: I've got a dedicated server in my room right next to my computer, I've been using it like a normal server for about half a year now but recently I upgraded it's RAM to 16GB's. I've had to reinstall my entire ubuntu OS several times because I had fucked something up so now I want to split my dedicated server into multiple virtual machines, so they're basically VPS's (they'd each have 1 core and about 3GB's). It's possible to SSH into it from my PC and my local network in general, but I want to be able to SSH into my VM's at school too. Been searching on google for a week now and I can't seem to find the right answer, I've tried NAT, and bridged network. The VM is currently using Bridged, it uses port 26 for SSH (Which also works correctly). But when I try to host an apache site on it, I can only access it from my local network, even if I forward it's port on port 27 and change apache's default ports to 27, even with a domain for the site, or when I try accessing it like: http://server-ip:27/ it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to set this up? I want to host a VPS for one of my friends as a mutual cloud server so we can exchange large files of above 50GB's. Thanks in advance!

Budget (including currency): n/a? Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 2 windows 10 vm with gpu for gaming, small nas, running on unraid Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have all parts I think I need to start 1 vm and the nas, here they are: Server cabinet, server case, motherboard (asus prime z590-a BIOS ver .0402), i7-11700k, 64gb ram, asus 3060ti, mouse, keyboard, monitor (lg 27gn750-b), i may have forgot to mention a part. . i will eventually add a second graphics card for the second gaming station, if this works at all... I have unraid installed on a usb, i have vt-d and the other virtual thing enabled in bios, I have created a windows vm. I have these virtio dirvers (https://github.com/virtio-win/virtio-win-pkg-scripts/blob/master/README.md). I have the windows vm setup to use a single ssd for itself, and don't have it included in the rest of the array. I am only able to utilize the vm when I am using vnc as the graphics option. When I select nvidia, I just get a black screen. I have search a bit online and idk if I trust what I am finding. Was hoping someone might have some good advice? Thank you

So i am using gpu-p to partition my gpu to a vm. But, when we try to join each other on a game, it gives us an error. The pubic Ip address is the same on the Host as well as the VM. I've tried to change the IP on the vm but it just disconnects from the internet. I have a ethernet port dedicated to the vm. and a separate on for the host. My specs are as follows: a Ryzen 9 3900x, 2080Super (for the VM), a 3080 ti, an asus crosshair hero VIII. Please help. Any help is greatly appreciated. : ) thanks.

Heya, I've originally posted this question on a different forum but did not get a solution. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by just copy pasting my own question but a quick search did not suggest anything in that direction. As written in the original post below the problem just solved itself at some point and since I don't particularly care about this VM I just accepted it. It worked again for fourish weeks before I noticed today that the VM would not boot. Again. Same symptoms as last time. I did look up the two device ids but nothing of interest turned up. Anyway, here is my original question I posted four weeks ago: I've been using a Western Digital SN750 1TB SSD for about half a year and it used to work just fine (and does again now). Earlier today the Windows VM I had installed on it would no longer start. I investigated the issue and found the following: The drive did not show up in the host machine's UEFI (it did before this happened) Running lspci on the host did still list the drive The pci device id changed (how is that even possible???) It used to be 15b7:5006 and changed to 15b7:5002 I am passing the SSD through to the VM using its bus and slot number, which did not change, but the VM could not access the drive I did not find anything in journalctl, SMART doesn't report anything either I tried to troubleshoot the problem and it apparently fixed itself after some reboots. The drive does not hold any valuable data, everything stored on it can be replaced quite easily, but I'd still like to know what's up with the drive. Should I replace it or was it just my server doing messing up? And I'd really like an answer to 3) aren't vendor and device id supposed to be static? How can they change? Looking forward to your ideas, thanks

Hello, Im a hobby developer and need a fast and reliable storage for my VM (VMWare Workstaation disk) a month ago i bought a 120gb SSD intenso 3813430 for all my needs as I prefered to split it on new drive as my main SSD has lots of wear (it's 5 years old) Today that SSD looks dead, so my last backup is 1 month old because i really didn't expect it, 2-3 years yes... first week yes aswell, but a month is unlucky... bloody murphy... (i do full backups monthly) on a side note, yes I do use private git server, but not everything works with git plus sometimes im just prototyping and later deleting the git repos is a pain, so i only use git once I know it's a bigger project/project at all I'm not sure if im looking for a NAS, my router is a fritzbox 7590 and i'm not willing to change it/add a switch because of cost and space i don't have Im looking for something really cheap/diy, put in it 2x 120gb SSD intenso 3813430 (i hope warranty will replace mine) and call it a day, i would put 2 of them in my pc and use the intel raid whatever software but don't have 2 free slots nor space in the chassis Any ideas on what I can use? I wouldn't mind giving up a USB slot on pc or/and network slot on router. Again, I dont care about speed, 100-200mb/s is good enough and 120gb maybe 240gb is most this array will ever need, it has one job and one job only, store my coding VM. I prefer to code on a VM for many reasons (like isolation), easy backup and easy moving. litteraly 1 file instead of 10's of projects and 10's programs with settings and what not Best Regards, DeadlyChemist

Hello There, I am currently using Manjaro as my OS and when I dont use it I generally mine using Nicehash. However there is no nicehash client for Linux. (nuxhash is currently not working) So my Idea was to run Nicehash OS in a Virtual machine with GPU passthrough. Has anyone done this before? Is my Idea completly off and there is a better way? What VM software should i use? (I was thinking QEMU because i heard it was good at passing through a GPU). I mainly want to use Nicehash because i need to get above the 0.001 Minimum and its easy to use(On windows, and i have a NicehashOS stick to boot from). Best regards!
