Country: Switzerland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 1080p gaming, office work, simple CAD My situation: I could get an old PC for free. It consists of the following parts: Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M EVO CPU: Core i5-2400 GPU: Nvidia GT 430, 1 GB RAM: 4x 2GB Kingston ValueRAM (DDR3-1333) PSU: 420W (branded from a local retailer) HD: Samsung HD103SJ, 1 TB Cooling: Intel stock cooler, 2x 120 mm fan (Front Intake and back exhaust), I also "hacked" in an 80 mm fan onto the side panel which is blowing air onto the GPU. Optical: Lite-On iHAS124-19 (DVD-RW) I want to ask if I could keep the motherboard, RAM and case, but upgrade the GPU, CPU, HD and PSU if needed. To replace the HD, I've got a SATA 2.5" SSD. CPU-wise, I could get an i7-3770 for about 45 CHF (47 USD). For a GPU, I dont quite know what is sufficient and still at a reasonable price. Ideally, the card doesn't cost more than about 150 CHF (156 USD), but I don't know if that is even possible. Is it even worth upgrading such an old motherboard? Thank you all for your answers!

Budget (including currency): GBP £2000-3000 Country:UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games at high specs as well as rendering and editing. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GNJzZw These are the parts I currently have and I was looking at getting a 3090. My main question is apart from an 850w psu is there anything else i would need to swap out or should I just focus on getting a new build completely? Many thanks for any help!

Budget (including currency): 20,000 - 25,000 MXN (1,000 - 1,250 USD) Country: Mexico Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Current (Genshin Impact), After GPU upgrade (Apex Legends, Warframe, Small size CAD, Matlab, programing and Proteus designs as a hobbyist) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): This is my first PC build, coming from gaming on Xbox One, I actually managed to get some help in discord but tried to do at the end a downgrade for the GPU from a 3060 for $10000 MXN (about $500 USD) to a Radeon RX 550 for $3000 MXN ($150 USD). I want to know if it's possible to run Genshin Impact and some other light games while I save some extra money and then just upgrade the GPU. I did this change because right now I don't have a monitor that can take advantage of this specs, just old ones (the type that only have VGA-15 pin ports) so the money I'm currently saving from that to get a decent monitor. The plan is to upgrade to a GeForce RTX 3060 ($500 USD) when they're on stock and at a reasonable price. All the current prices are from this site: https://www.cyberpuerta.mx/ And my currency is the mexican peso MXN (1 USD ~ 20 MXN), I'm still leaving a dollar conversion but the prices may vary a little bit. I'm also taking monitor suggestions. Budget (including currency): Depends. Maybe 500$ to 700$? Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Some AAA games, mostly Minecraft and Apex Legends though. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): First off, thanks for taking the time to read this topic. I really do appreciate it! So, I've always been on a really tight budget for computer hardware, and because of that I've done my very best to construct the most budget-friendly PC possible in my area. My hardware in logical order: Intel Xeon E5-2440 v2 CPU (6c, 12t, 2.20ghz locked) AliExpress-brand LGA 1336 motherboard 16GB 1333mz DDR3 ECC memory Sapphire RX 570 4GB GPU 120GB SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD 550W Corsair PSU I try my best to learn all I can about custom-built computers, but I'm not sure what I should upgrade next. A ten-core Xeon that fits in the mobo is available (I think similar clock speed), but the platform is deprecated, would it be wiser to jump ship entirely? OR would a CPU upgrade not help, for example if the bottleneck is on the GPU side? Should I start looking for some decently priced RX 5500XT's? Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Also, I'm not sure if this is particularly relevant, but I do main Arch Linux, although I'm not sure what bearing this would have in a hardware focused post such as this.

I recently finished my very first build using both brand new parts and parts that I've used in previous builds. While it's a pretty satisfying build already, and I actually only need something that can run 900p, I still want to upgrade and get a monitor that isn't 1600x900. First thing's first, though, and I'm going to replace the parts that weren't bought new before I replace the others. Here's what the first part of the upgrade process is going to look like... Notice that some of the things listed are already purchased, some of which I'm going to be upgrading next. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor (Purchased For $114.99) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($89.94 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (Purchased For $139.99) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (Purchased For $31.99) Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($70.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 950 2GB Superclocked Video Card (Purchased For $139.99) Case: Thermaltake Suppressor F31 ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair RMx 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.99 @ Amazon) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit (Purchased For $99.99) Total: $887.86 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-23 00:43 EDT-0400 I'll be upgrading my components in this order (probably): PSU, Case, SSD, Cooler I don't think I actually want to spend too much on a SSD, and I hear good things about this one, even if it is not an 850 EVO. The cooler, I hear, is also pretty great, even though it's ugly as hell. I won't be seeing it, so it doesn't matter. Next, on to the part where I actually make some improvements to my overall performance: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.29 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler (Purchased For $89.94) Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (Purchased For $139.99) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (Purchased For $31.99) Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $70.99) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card ($429.99 @ Amazon) Case: Thermaltake Suppressor F31 ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $89.99) Power Supply: Corsair RMx 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $109.99) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit (Purchased For $99.99) Total: $1292.16 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-23 00:46 EDT-0400 Obviously, I bought a Z170 motherboard, so I'm going to want an unlocked CPU... I don't need an i7 nor do I want to pay the price premium, so I'm sticking with an i5-6600K for now. After I get that beast, I'm getting an even beastlier GTX 1070... Though I will probably still wait until the end of the year to see what AMD has to offer this time around. The 850W PSU you saw earlier in the post isn't overkill - it's to accommodate any dual GPU setup I might be thinking about in the future. What are your thoughts on these upgrades? Anything I should change, think about, etc.? I also want any suggestions for keyboards, mice, and monitors (preferably 1440p, 1080p is still great since 1440p monitors are so damn expensive.) TIA
