I'm fairly new in Ubuntu. I'm running a 20.04 LTS with kernel ver. of 5.85.8.0-40-generic. Previously (around a day ago), I managed to 'achieve' an ethernet connection via Realtek chip on my ethernet cable. However when I reboot'd today, I lost my ethernet connection and heck I even tried to 're-sit' the cable but still won't work. :/ I checked first previous posts in other forum (dated 3 years ago lol) and run the same process -> Here... What I did in the terminal is; sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf change the line managed=false to managed=true Save, stop and start network manager sudo service network-manager restart The problem still persists. So I tried to restart the network manager via, sudo touch /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager And it still doesn't work after all. Are there any workarounds for this one? Any on-thorough help is sincerely appreciated at this point. :c Regards, cgha

Hi everyone I am moving from a laptop to a desktop system, my second drive in my laptop is a Linux(Ubuntu 20.04) drive with some rather important data pertaining to my research. I wanted to ask if I can plug my Linux drive into the new PC (Ryzen-based) and will it work straight of the bat? or will it require tweaking? Or a full backup and format and re-initialisation of the Linux drive? I would like not to have to backup and reinstall applications obviously to save time, but will this have adverse effects on anything I do on my Linux system? I will be using the Linux drive for CFD simulations and rendering in FreeCAD. Thanks in advance

Hi, So recently I have been looking to purchase a pcie sata card for my server. Since my server has 8 free slot I am looking for a 8 port sata card. Now my problem is im not sure which I should buy and what should I need to be looking out for. The specs of my server are as followed. Ryzen 5 2600 MSI B450 tomahawk max 16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram Quadro P400 6x 4TB IronWolf Now my questions as to what I should be looking for are as followed. Does having a pcie x4 change anything instad of a x1 card? Should I get a sata card or sas card? What differs a high end and a low end sata card? And to finalize, the cards I have been looking at on amazon are the following. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07NFRXQHC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_FFPRX0T1DGSS244733F1 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B098Q2NL4H/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_CXYC6D70S0VAADKRNVGH https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B098DL1W31/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_CBHPDJYQTXT124Q91R7F Thanks in advance for any help provided!

It's been a few months since i switched to ubuntu 20.04 on my toshiba l850 laptop. And trackpad hasn't been working ever since. I know it's not a hardware problem because it works on windows (installed by default). Plugging in a usb mouse works and that's how i've been using it. But I'm tired of carrying an external mouse around. It might be a driver issue but I'm not really sure about it. There are drivers available for trackpad of this laptop but they're all for windows. I've been trying to debug it ever since but it never really worked out. Would be glad if any of you can help thanks. Laptop: toshiba l850 (probably 2013 model) BIOS: Insyde bios Processor: intel i5 3230M (64 bit) (upgraded from the default processor) Memory: 4GB kingston SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz

I guess I will copy and paste from my question on askubuntu.com (Stack Exchange) https://askubuntu.com/questions/1363178/ubuntu-desktop-for-raspberry-pi-brcmfmac-enable-power-save-take-too-long-and-st brcmfmac: brcmf_cfg80211_set_power_mgmt: power save enabled is exactly what shown on screen and on journalctl SSH daemon is up and running so troubleshooting is more possible (because Ubuntu Desktop for Raspberry Pi doesn't use grub so switching to recovery mode is hard)

Has anyone here had any success getting OG Crysis running in Proton? I've tried many of the solutions on ProtonDB and have tried Proton-GE but the most I get is a black screen. Crysis 2 works fine. Haven't tried any of the other Crysis games tho. I'm running a distro based off Ubuntu 20.04, Nvidia Driver 460, kernel 5.11. Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

Hey Everyone, I'm facing a pretty big issue with installing Ubuntu. I have a Predator Triton 700, which has its storage configuration set to RAID-0 (2x256 GB NVMe SSDs). Apparently, Acer has this weird obsession with locking people out of its bios. I thus am unable to change my configuration from RAID to AHCI, nor do anything useful. I have successfully managed to upgrade to a single 1TB SSD. I was planning to use one of the older 256 GB sticks to run Ubuntu off of it(Dual-booting Linux on the 256 GB SSD, and Windows on the 1TB one). When I actually try to install it though, I'm faced with this message :- "This computer uses Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology). You need to turn off RST before installing Ubuntu. For instructions, open this page: help.ubuntu.com/rst" As far as I know, this is probably because Linux cannot read RAID volumes or something along that line. I deleted the RAID volume, deleted IRST but to no avail. Does anyone have any idea on how to overcome this issue? Maybe a different distro which would work well for programmers and would not necessitate a change in the bios? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. PS: I'm a newbie to the Linux world; I might need a little bit of an explanation :p.

Is it just me or does anybody else experience a glitch in Linus Tech Tips YouTube videos when streaming on 4K in full screen. The glitch is usually in the close up panning product shots like in this video: https://youtu.be/nVPHX-San0I Timestamp: 1:58. I'm using Firefox 80.0.1 on Ubuntu 20.04LTS. I have tried streaming at 1080p and the glitch although still exists but much better than at 4K. Also the problem is completely gone while using Chrome. It's kinda distracting as hell ugghh

Hi, I've recently bought a raspberry pi 4 and I want to use it as a little server on my local network with an external hard drive attached to it. I want to run a few things on it like: - simple file sharing via ftp or something more fancy like owncloud - torrent client with web interface (strictly for seeding linux images only ) - media server (without any transcoding magic) - and maybe more To avoid conflicts it probably would be a good idea to run these inside containers. I'm not familiar with docker and I'm not even sure if the hardware has enough processing power tho handle all of these. Any advice?

So I have a remote linux server running ubuntu 20.04, and the only way I can access it is via ssh or VNC. I want to install windows on this server because there are several windows applications that I need to run which aren't working with wine. I know how to get the windows install process started using wine on ubuntu, but after after the computer reboots into windows, I will lose all ability to access the machine via ssh or vnc. My question is, is there any way to circumvent this or add an install script to the windows installer so that VNC is automatically installed and set up upon boot?
