Hi all! I've seen a couple of similar posts here, but nothing that maps well enough to the problems I've been having, so I figured I'd start a new thread and hope it works out. Some stats to start off with: i9-10900K with a 360mm AIO cooer on a Z490 Taichi Motherboard running a 4090 GPU on a Corsair RM850X PSU. The screenshot I posted with summary data from HWiNFO64 should speak to the rest of my system specs. My setup has been going through periods of alternating performance issues, during which nearly any kind of effort leaves it struggling to catch up. For example, mousing over app thumbnails in my Steam library has a significant latency to the zoom-on-hover effect, and games that I've previously had no issues running start running with a near-countable number of frames. Periods of poor performance can last several weeks before returning to normal out of nowhere and running like a dream for another several weeks before dropping precipitously with just as little warning. I started diagnosing things using Intel XTU, which was the first time I noticed the EDP Throttling flag. During periods of poor performance, it was activated almost immediately upon reboot, but when my computer was working properly, it didn't show up at all. This most recent period of poor performance has started off without the XTU EDP Throttling flag, I started digging into other tools beyond XTU, like ThrottleStop and HWiNFO64 (screenshots from which are attached to this post). I didn't include the TS Limit window in the screenshot, but it's got ONLY a near-constant red EDP Other block in the Ring section, whereas HWiNFO64 shows IA Limits from Max Turbo Limit and Turbo Attenuation. More importantly though, it shows Ring Limits due to EDP-type constraints in line with those shown by TS. Looking through the other EDP-related issues on this and other forums, I've checked things like the ICCMax Values, etc., and they're already set as high as possible, so I'm running out of steps to take next. A couple of interesting notes: I tried several different Benchmarking approaches, all of which get throttled to just under 800MHz, with core temps not to barely exceeding 30 deg C I can physically distinguish between periods of poor performance and acceptable performance by the amount of heat being radiated from my computer. If it's working properly, I can feel the hot air being vented from my PC under stress (while keeping temps below 60-70 deg C in monitoring software) I mentioned it before, but these swaps between poor performance and proper performance are infrequent. If my computer is terrible, it's terrible for a long time. If it's good, it's good for a long time, not a lot of switching back and forth. I'm not looking to overclock anything. I just want my computer to work right again. My current guess is there's just a bad sensor somewhere that I need to disable, but I don't want to accidentally fry something. I barely know anything about Computer Hardware/Engineering, so ELI5 responses are welcome! Thanks, --KSFrosty

So Im in the process of building a new PC, I enjoy enthusiast-tier air cooling and tend to upgrade my case fans and heatsink fans and have a large case with plenty of space. Will be installing on to an AM5 Build. Its just been a while and Im not sure what is out there these days. I was wondering why nobody seems to buy the "Thermalright Frost Commander 140" as testing has shown it actually cools better than the Noctua D-15 at full fan speed at the expense of some noise simply because the fans are higher RPM. But also because the cooler is just $60 USD. Seems to be a slam-dunk product if you ask me Also wondering what kind of thermal paste I should get. I used to use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut as it was the best on the market for thermal conductivity while not being electrically conductive. I heard they have better products these days and others have apparently stepped up to compete?

My First PC build without reusing components from another or that have been handed down or off to me Crimson Industries proudly presents: Crimson Obsidian - 8 Case fans (4 in, 4 out) - 8TB Internal HDD (1TB Boot Disk, 2+1TB Spanned Files Volume, 4TB mUSBtBSS HDD (connected directly to the JUSB1 Header with an adapter)) - PNY GeForce RTX 3060 12GB XLR8 - 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM (4x8) (G.Skill Ripjaws V Series) - MAG B760 Tomahawk WiFi DDR4 Mobo - Intel Core i5 13600KF (with Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO) - Windows 11 Home - Case: Hyte Y60 (Red) - PSU: Corsair RM1000x (Budget was roughly $1300-$1500 USD) The Setup (for now until I get my triple monitor order):

Budget (including currency): Less than £80 ($90-95) Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games e.g. Cyberpunk 2077, Escape From Tarkov, Path of Exile, Microsoft Flight Simulator Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Upgrading my current rig (Essentially overhauling and replacing the entire build) and looking to replace the case to fit the new hardware. The planned build will include: GPU: Nvidia 3060 Ti CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i SSD x2 2.5" Samsung Internal SSD's (Will look to get more in the future) MB: TBD Based on Case PSU: TBD Based on Case General Cooling: Fans / Water is TBD Based on Case Im looking for case that others would recommend for the above "to be-build" as I'm mostly concerned with efficient cooling and space. The case will have to be either mid to full ATX and I intend to get a full ATX MB. I was looking into the Cooler Master TD500 MESH however have heard poor reviews from the community about CM in general and would just love to know what peoples opinions / experiences are with their cases. Any wisdom imparted would be greatly appreciated. All the best, M

Budget (including currency): tbd Country: Spain Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Risk of Rain, Deep rock Galactic, STALKER Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): rog g752 vsk motherboard Long ago my G752VSK had some really strange behavior, upon playing games like halo infinite or deep rock galactic it would suddenly shut down. Windows would give a "shutting down" screen and the pc would simply turn off, as if it had somehow ran out of battery. Asus' workshop in Portugal took a look at it, said it was bluescreening on furmark and that one pinned wasn't well adjusted, then said it needed a motherboard replacement to be functional again. Here's the thing though, the new mb also crashes on furmark so I'm not sure how effective that nuke repair was... So why am I telling you all this? Because they also sent me back the old motherboard, with 2 SSD slots, 4 RAM slots, one HDD slot, and intel i7 7700HQ, a GTX 1070, etc. and I have a friend who's in desperate need of a pc upgrade. My biggest gripe though is getting a good cooling solution for this thing, as I want it to have the biggest benefit of a tower, good cooling, on a laptop CPU and GPU. With this in mind I need advice for this project, as it will no doubt be quite the undertaking.

For context, a few days prior to this one, while I've been playing Valorant, my PC, which is only a few days old, suddenly shut off (the other appliances in our homes are okay, though, so I've also assumed that it also may be a fluctuation. Then, again, it's raining quite hard that day so). I've surmised that perhaps it's a super short power outage. I've turned it on immediately afterward, and there seems to be no problem at all seeing as it's working just as well as the first time I've purchased it. No problems nor issues whatsoever But, my mind can't stop pestering me about it, how there may be damaged internal components and that I just haven't noticed it. Do take note that I don't have a surge protector at that time. Thank you, in advance, for the responses.

Hi all This may be a dumb question or idea but I'm looking for a horizontal computer case or a tower that I can lay down if it is safe to do so but I don't want something plain and boring and I didn't know if they still actually exist what with everything being towers now. The reason for this is that my computer is hooked up to the TV in the living room and the tower is just plonked next to the TV. I have a TV media stand or whatever you want to call it that has the traditional spaces for DVD player, games console, ect/all things that lay flat but they are empty so I can put my computer into one of them if I had the right case. Just wanted to know if they are still a thing and if someone can point me to them. As I said I'm not looking for something like the old Dell/IBM base units, I want a modern day variant with maybe RGB and a view panel at the top so that the inside RGB shines out. Thanks in advance. EDIT - Forgot to say that I am in the UK and that I have an ATX size motherboard so the case would need to fit that.

I used PC part picker and LTT to help make a build. Now i'm wondering if my tower is to small for the mother board. I got this case- https://pcpartpicker.com/product/dgndnQ/thermaltake-versa-h18-microatx-mini-tower-case-ca-1j4-00s1wn-01 This motherboard- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SY8CMTX?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

I want this Topic to be a little List for people who don't know which ATX Tower to choose or haven't decided yet (If there isn't already a Topic that's doing this) if someone can recommend a high quality ATX Tower regarding LED, modern design or other types, please write them in here for people who perhaps need a good case but haven't chosen one yet and instead of creating a new Topic, they can look some good ones up here

Hello! I've recently decided that my NZXT Phantom 410 is getting a little dated and could do with being upgraded! As much as I love the case, I feel like a change is needed as I have recently upgraded my old system... With that being said - after a good amount of time browsing the internet and various tech forums - I have decided to go with the Phanteks P600S chassis. From what I can tell, this is a really cool looking case and is perfect for the kind of build I'd be going for. My question is, is there anyone that has/had or at least has experience with the Phanteks P600S case. Unfortunately due to the current situation I'm unable to go to a tech store to look at one and I don't know anyone that has one. I'd like to understand people's views on the build quality and overall opinion of the case as a whole! Thanks in advance!

GRRRRR Okay, Guys i'm new here this is my first post, But i have been watching linus since his NCIX days. I need some help here pronto! My damn cat wont stop jumping on my new tower i just built. I didn't mind it before with my old PC because it was getting to the point to where I no longer cared about it anymore lol, but my new tower is in the gloss black finished s340 case and i'm afraid he is going to scratch it. Not to mention about 50% of his jumps onto my PC he hits the power button and my PC starts to shut down during a gaming session. This is become a pretty serious problem actually, he will inadvertently shut my PC off at least 4-5 times a night. So if anyone could be so kind and share with me ways you keep your cat off your tower, PLEASE let me know. THANKS! :):)

I've been asked to recommend a desktop to someone. They specifically want a Dell. They're looking for something under $1,000, and given that they don't do much beyond basic computing is more than enough money. However, they also replace their computers about once every decade, so even though they don't do heavy computing stuff, might it be a good idea to recommend them with an i5-i7 processor? To give reference, their current system runs on a core 2 duo from '06, and even basic web browsing is sluggish for them, so I'd want to recommend them with a processor that'll last them another decade. I'd also want something for them that has an SSD, because that's an upgrade that they'll instantly notice. I don't think they need anything with a discreet GPU in the near future. However, it seems that most models with a decently sized SSD are higher end with a discreet GPU, something they won't need for now. Should I get them an AIO due to its space profile, or typical tower due to the fact that it's more up gradable if they were to need more RAM or a new GPU in about 5 years? TL:DR - Need a Dell desktop under $1,000, low computing needs but it needs to run smoothly for at least a decade, =>256gb SSD preferred, AIO or Tower?

Hey all, i thought about getting a new Case with the next money. I'm using an old case from 2008, which has bad airflow and the psu at the top... As I'm a student i could only afford something like up to 50 or maybe 60€, pls make reccomendations for that. My needs are basicly: -good airflow -maybe cable management to stuff away all the cables (i sadly dont have a modular psu) -doesnt have to have usb3.0 at the front bec. i can use the adapter out of my case -some decent fans already installed (as i just have some random fans installed) -midi or full tower, i dunno if full has advantages i dont know off -nothing fance, i dont rly need a side panel window or something, its staying under my desk, i want a case for performance for a good price. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you all, Tia

Hey all, Looking for a new case here is the following requirements: ( the case that's interesting me is the corsair 450D) the Fractal R5 interested me but without a top filter the dust will just fall in :\ Mid tower ( handles if possible) Able to fit a 280mm Rad (corsair H115i) Top filters to fit the rad Fit 3 x 3.5-inch drives fFt 1 x 2.5-inch drives NO TEMPERED glass ( I move a lot don't want to risk breaking it Good filters Excellent build quality. I know I can buy filters from like demcifilter.com but it cost way to much money here in canada. Here's my current build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/NcRLpb Thanks guys

Hey, this is my first time here on the forum and I think this post is within the guidelines? Correct me if not and I apologize for my incompetence in advance if so That aside, I had this idea of a challenge for the guys to make some cool and obscure case mod/pc. Something non-traditional and whimsical could be really fun in my eyes. My question is, does Linus and the crew take community ideas? I'm new to the community so I don't know, best way to find out is to ask so...tada. And since this is a forum i'd like to hear what you guys think of the idea and what you would do. Personally I would make a scale model of a 1969 Camaro ss, large enough to house a pc obviously and rigged with some cool sound effects and such. e.g on start up you would hear a racing muscle car (if configurable).

Hi, with Black Friday deals coming up, I am looking for a new case to put my ATX system in. Nothing special: air-cooled, single GPU; HDD, SSD, BRD-Drive. I will also buy a new after market cooler, so I am flexible with clearance, I would prefer a larger case with more room, though. I'm looking for an understated aesthetic; black/grey with optional colour highlights (e.g. BeQuiet silent base, BitFenix Colossus) I don't need a side panel window, LEDs or anything. I'd rather invest in dust filters, a roomy interior and maybe sound-dampening. Budget: <100€ (or ~100$, prices are generally similar) Any ideas? What do you think are my best options? Thanks
