Hi, Just looking around and I'm still in the process of investigating, however I though to ask here. Has anyone found a software that allows you to isolate the VPN to one program like utorrent? Otherwise, allow other programs to bypass the VPN you activate. The end result is I'd like is to have my torrent-ing program's network traffic to go through the VPN but I don't want my Plex server to. The only solution I have at the moment is to separate this into two VM's and put a VPN on one of them with the my torrent-ing program.

Does the constant reads (and maybe writes too, I'm not sure) seeding a torrent requires degrades the SSD and shortens its lifetime?

Hi all, apologies if there is already a thread about this topic I'm relatively new here and was looking for some advice. I currently use IPVanish as my VPN and have done for around 5 years or so. Never had any issues and the download speeds and P2P speeds are great with the Wireguard protocol. Although I am looking to change to another provider with better privacy practices and wondered what the recommendations would be for good privacy and P2P speeds. I have been debating going with ProtonVPN but wanted to see other people's thoughts. Thanks for the help.

For a raid 1 configuration of 2 drives which WILL be used for quite an amount of torrenting, how much will an SSHD wear and tear from the torrenting? What exactly does that give me in terms of reliability and speed?

While some torrents are running in the latest uTorrent Beta 3.5.0 Build 44000 (upgraded from previous version which had same problem), the application closes on its own when I'm away or so and I haven't been able to find the real cause. Checked all the preferences, tried Defaulting but none helped! Closure time is uncertain: sometimes 2, 4 or even after 8 hours it shuts down. Triple checked that no third party apps are closing it forcibly. In task manager, too, the running status and priority are Normal. What could be the real cause to this problem I'm wondering?

I was wondering if torrenting on a VM would compromise the security of using a VM in any way considering how the torrenting technology works?

Basicaly im sick of going on Kissanime right clicking on a video and selecting save as and then doing that for 3-4 episodes, waiting for them to download and then doing so for a coupple more and so on, so if anyone knows of a place were i can just torrent animes that would be great, i have tried a coupple of places but niether would connect and download so if someone knows a place that atiually works i would be greatfull thanks for any replies and any help here

I'm researching the topic of pirating, torrenting, and how they affect the Entertainment Industry. Pirating has become much much easier in recent years, and congress has done many things to try and stop it. SOPA is one. They explain how pirating music and movies costs the U.S. economy over $200 Billion a year, and over 750,000 jobs. Clearly it's getting out of hand and needs to be stopped. It's safe to assume that during the time that thepiratebay was offline, pirating decreased. Temporarily. These numbers, especially the jobs, are frightening. How accurate are they though? Mark Twain said "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." These numbers aren't tangible. They are accurately estimated, yes, by the potential revenue. That's an entire topic that can be talked about for 10 pages. The number of jobs, let's see, maybe those are potential jobs too. What if it includes the number of jobs lost obliquely, or even for completely unrelated reason? These kinds of things aren't talked about enough. For instance, the potential revenue lost from pirating will most likely be spent elsewhere, and would never have been spent on what was pirated in the first place. If I go to the store, see a movie that I want, then go home and pirate it, that's lost potential. If I wake up, look at the Top 100 movie torrents, and just start downloading whatever sounds cool, there was no potential because I wouldn't pay to see those movies anyway. Tell me what you guys think and take a vote, these stats will be used in my presentation. Anonymously of course. All of this seems to only apply to big budget movies, hot 100 songs, etc. What about smaller movies? Well, there's another debate. For instance, if you have a independent film, and it's pay-to-rent online, how many people are going to watch it? Case studies have shown that allowing the free distribution of things like movies and songs greatly increases the popularity and is in a sense, a marketing tactic.

Hi everyone! Lately I've noticed my internet speed dropping radically during certain hours of the day. I have a feeling my older brother is Torrenting a LOT because I've noticed them pop up on his computer when he's showing me something. I've recently asked him multiple times if he is torrenting and he constantly claims he isn't, despite a couple times I actually went and checked his computer when he was at work and Low-and-behold, he was torrenting. Shutting them down drastically imporved internet speed for everyone else in the house. Lately I can't do that though. As he has put a password on his computer. I would just shut down his computer when he's out but I'm not sure if he's running important things while it's locked. Our advertised internet speed is 15Mbps (I know it's not much but in NZ that's average) but the times I suspect he's torrenting it drops to anywhere between 50Kbps-400Kbps. Attached is a picture of our network map. It's layed out strange for some reason so I'll explain it. F9J1002 v1 is the Main Modem/Router connected to the copper lines outside - "Dads computer" Is directly connected to it. - "Macwireless Guest" Is directly connected to it. (I'm not sure why it shows it as a seperate connection because it's literally just a router, not a modem" -The devices connected to this are of no importance at the moment as they are rarely used, and aren't good for much other than emails and Facebook. - "Switch 1" Is a switch we have in the roof that connects all our wired in computers to F9J1002 v1, it is our "Mother Switch" -Router "F9K1002 v1 is my personal wireless router so I can connect my many wireless games consoles/devices to the network without interfereing with other peoples connections. -"Liams Computer" is My computer with Admin rights on ALL wireless Routers/Modems - "Switch 2" Is a switch my brother installed in his room when he moved home. - "Vostro-3400" Is his computer and the suspected Torrenting machine. - "Switch 2" is another switch he installed in his room when he came home, God knows why. He has stuff all computers in his room. - "Media Server" is literally just that. A networked server for movies/music and some games. What I'm asking is, is there a way to know for certain if he is torrenting? His PC is locked 90% of the time and I have a limited knowledge of networking (More advanced than everyone in my family and most regular people but no expert knowledge) Sorry if this is in the wrong area, feel free to move it.

I was going through the threads on this site and saw someone include the OS in their build, this indicating that they were paying for it and not torrenting it. So this got me thinking, what does everyone on this forum think about torrenting? Do you think if you do it you are a horrible person? We probably all are somewhat guilty of it, I know that I am for sure. So what do you guys think about it? I do it without hesitation most of the time and I can't find any guilt to feel. Please just be calm, no reason to get angry at one another in this discussion.
