Hi, I have a MSI b450 tomahawk max with 5600x cpu that I am using for the last two years, haven’t face any issues. Long ago, i saw this red light issue but didn’t know much about it, opened my case and did some connection checks and it worked. Recently, I have downgraded my gpu from 6700xt to 1030, faced this cpu red light issue 7 days ago, tried gpu, ram, cmos battery reinstallion but didn’t work, suddenly it worked and ran well for the whole week. Today, it's showing again this annoying cpu red light, tried again with the ram, gpu, cmos, connection checks but nothing worked. What's the issue? Can anyone help me out? Saw many posts about such issues with this particular mobo, anything with the bios?

Is there anyone who can help me set up this weird ram (custom settings) which is giving me trouble from last 3 years. It works fine for like year or so and suddenly it starts acting up. like last night, everything was working fine and now if i put one stick from each, pc works fine but it does not work with 2 sticks anymore. because of this issue i sold my other rams and went back to dual channel memory. CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Mobo: Tomahawk Max b450 (Latest bios) Rams: Corsair vengeance lpx cl 18 ( 8x2 3600Mhz) Things i have tried: - reinstalled amd chipset drive to the latest - reinstalled motherboard bios to the latest. - No XMP, everything in bios is default -Reseated CMOS -tried different memory slots for ram Please help, i'm thinking about moving to intel if this thing does not sort out.

Hi, This post is especially for MSI M450 Tomahawk Max users. Suppose you have 16GB Ram in your system right now and If you want to upgrade it to 32/64GB. Although this motherboard has 4 ram slots but the CPU memory controller (Corrected) on this is extremely poor, i have been using this motherboard for almost 2 years and this is what i came up with after a lot of testing and stressing. I have 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz cl18 sticks. CPU: Ryzen 5 3600. Below are the confirmed, tested and stable configuration. (1 or 2 sticks of rams) - XMP Profile ON 1x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz works on 3600Mhz Speed - Slot 2 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz works on 3600Mhz Speed (dual channel) - Slot 2, 4 Below are the confirmed, tested and stable configuration. (4 sticks of rams) - XMP Profile OFF If you put 4 sticks it wont work by default, here is the work around. Put 1 RAM stick Turn OFF XMP Profile Go to Overclocking and in memory speed put 3000 or 31xx, leave the rest as default Save, Boot up then Turn off. Put all 4 RAM stick, Boot up. 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz works on 2133Mhz Speed 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz works on 3000Mhz Speed 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz does not works on 3200Mhz Speed (use to work before but now it does not) 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600Mhz does not works on 3600Mhz Speed Ideal Condition: Use single 16GB stick Use 2x 16gb stick for total 32gb ram Use 2x 32gb stick for total 64gb ram Bios version: 7C02v39 Don't want to go higher than that because when selling this can not be sold to any ryzen 5 3xx series. after that bios update. Thank you for reading this. I hope this post help user deciding what to purchase when you want to upgrade or purchase new rams for this motherboard. Have a great day.

Last few days I have been looking for a reliable & fast 2 TB NVMe M.2 SSD. I was eyeing the Samsung 990 Pro as I saw a decent deal on my favorite PC Part shop, however, after checking my motherboard I realized something; I have a B450 TOMAHAWK MAX which has a Gen 3 x4 M.2 Slot ("Turbo M.2: Delivering speeds up to 32 Gb/s using Gen3 x4") Is a 990 Pro really worth it for the price here (160euro, keep in mind I am in The Netherlands, so component prices are higher than in the US. That's normal) considering I will never be able to use its rated peak speeds anyway until I upgrade to a motherboard with Gen 4 (which I most likely won't for a few years, I think). So what other 2 TB (or 3/4 TB if they fit in my budget of 180euro) SSD's would be good for me? Please keep in mind that prices & availability can differ a lot in the Netherlands (e.g. Sabrent SSDs are either tough to find or way overpriced). I personally just use the NL version of PCPartPicker to check: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/ My use-case is mainly 3 things: - Software Development - Gaming - Graphic Design I am also buying a Akasa M.2 PCI-E SATA RGB LED (https://www.akasa.com.tw/search.php?seed=AK-PCCM2P-04) to put my old SSD's in (Currently have 1 in my MB M.2 Slot and 1 in a Akasa singular PCIE to M.2) All advice & tips are extremely welcome. Thanks in advance

Right now my bios is 1 step lower from where they support the 5000 CPUs. What if right now i upgrade my Bios to the latest, will my current CPU which is ryzen 5 3600 works or after the latest bios i need a 5xxx CPU? Please confirm. Thanks PS: i have read somewhere that if i do the latest bios, i will not be able to used the 3xxx gen ryzen CPUs eg: ryzen 5 3600

So i have MSI B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard. If i plug Aux cables (mic, sound), it started spamming plugged in/out. I have tried both Audio drivers that are on MSI B540 Tomahawk Max website. One thing is, if i play any sound, i see green bars moving up/down but there are no sound in headphones, or in speakers, both speakers and headphones are fine, tested on other devices. What could be the reason? Is the Audio hardware on the motherboard is defective or what should be the cause? (tried both, front and back jacks) I have tried driver reinstall/uninstall and all those stuff that are on google. Any luck?

RGB-ARGB advice needed (motherboard)
ardaltheknight posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey, I started buying the components for my build, one of which is a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max. Now I can buy a Lian Li Lancool II Mesh, with ARGB fans. However, as I discovered, my motherboard has RGB headers. So the question is: should I send back (some delivery fee) my mobo and get one with ARGB headers(which one if yes), or should I just buy a Deepcool convertor? Also, if I go with the latter, can I assemble my pc without using the rgb function of the fans, and only buy the convertor later? Thanks a lot- 3 replies

Problem: Went to turn on PC. All fans, and lights are on. No signal to monitor.(Checked cable with console, cable does works) MB is throwing a CPU debug light. Background: Built PC 4 month ago. Had no hiccups with flashing BIOS and updating drivers, since I built my machine. Usually keep my PC in sleep mode over night. Symptoms: When PC would not produce a signal to monitor. Notice CPU debug light. Check CPU 8-Pin. Notice one pin on my PSU cable extensions was not seated. Treatments: - Took out CE (Cable extension), used PSU cable. Restarted system. CPU debug light. - Reset CMOS: Unplugged PSU from wall. Took out CMOS battery. Held power button for 10-15 seconds. Plug things back together. Restarted system. CPU debug light. - Reseated all PSU cables from PSU. Reseat all PSU cables from hardware, expect SDD. Restarted system. CPU debug light. - Changed to a different CPU pin on PSU. CPU1 -> CPU2. Restarted system. CPU debug light. - Reseated both RAM stick. Restarted system. CPU debug light. - Restarted system with just one RAM stick, then tested with other RAM stick. CPU debug light for each. - Reseated GPU out of desperation. Restarted system. CPU debug light. Personal Diagnosis: - PSU cable extensions bricked CPU - PSU is faulty on CPU output plugs. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X MB: Tomahawk B450 Max RAM: 2 x Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600MHz 8GBs GPU: Nivida GeForce RTX 3060TI PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650+ 80+ Gold, Fully Modular CABLE EXTENSIONS: Asian Horse STORAGE: TForce Vulcan 500GB SDD CASE: Corsair 4000D Airflow. BOIS: XMP turned one, RAM speed set to 3600MHz. No overclocking except XMP. Any suggestion on what I do next? Or did that single unseated cable extension pin brink my CPU when I went to turn on my PC a few hours ago? Thanks!

I didn't knew that we have to mount the hyper 212 in Tomahawk max in a very weird position which mess all the case airflow. They provide the Am4 bracket which restrict you to only mount the CPU Cooler facing from GPU to Top Vents (see images). As there are not much information on the internet not even on youtube (as far as i have searched). JUST DON'T Buy this cooler on AM4. I made my mistake. For reference here is the youtube video

Hey guys, I currently have a MSI B450 Tomahawk II in a NZXT h510i that has the smart device hub with the 2 stock black case fans. Was thinking of getting a set of 4 RGB fans to replace them and add to case. With what I've seen online the Tomahawk does not has aRGB headers so no luck there but it does have 4 pin PWM headers available. How can i add RGB fans with this setup? Can I split the smartdevice v2 signals? Use the 4pin pwm? New to rgb here have no idea. TYIA Hope was to use something like these: https://amzn.to/3Fr1UmY

memory Ripjaws V compatible with Ryzen 3000?
alternxtive posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hi, I recently found a Ripjaws V 2x8 GB DDR4 3600 MHz CL17 kit for a great price where I live. I found the exact same model (F4-3600C17D-16GVK) on the B-Die finder site https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/ Seems like a perfect deal, but does anyone know if it'll be compatible with a Ryzen 5 3600 and the B450 Tomahawk Max? Because on the G.Skill site it says that it's compatible with Intel platforms, but they don't mention AMD at all. -
Here is my rig (first build): Budget: 1000-1100 Purpose: Coding, multitasking, rendering, trading, i wanna overklock... RGB: Some strips rgb, asus or something. Other: Sleeve AIO white OS: Win pro + linux I will put the radiator on the front of the case and another fan, so: front, 3 x 120mm. Back, 1 x 120mm. Top 2 x 120mm. Thank you. If you have any proposal or I'm missing something please tellme and I will consider it. Do you think I should whait for the rayzen 4000? Thank you!

Hi my name is Tushar Moily and I am from India. Last week I purchased a new gaming desktop. Below are it's specifications : 1) MSI B450 Tomahawk max motherboard 2) AMD Ryzen 5 3600 cpu 3) Aorus RTX 2060 super 8gb ddr5 triple fan model 4) Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 8gb DDR4 3200 mhz RAM sticks. 5) Corsair VS650 PSU 6) WD 240gb nvme m.2 SSD 7) Cooler Master Masterbox H501l ATX cabinet. I am running Windows 10 pro x64 bit (10.0, Build 18363) and my BIOS build date is 11/07/2019. As you can see in the attached photographs, my memory sticks are running at the advertised speeds of 3200 mhz. But XMP Profile 2 is showing none. Correct me if I am wrong but if I am using 2 sticks then both XMP Profiles 1 and 2 should show their respective sticks. Both sticks are inserted in slot 2 and 4. It's not that the system is not reading the other stick. It is showing 16 gigs of RAM. Infact, when I am playing Call of Duty : Warzone, the game is using anywhere between 10-11 gigs of RAM. I don't see any performance issues whatsoever but is it normal for XMP Profile 2 to show none? Your thoughts are much appreciated !

Hi everyone, I want to build a PC with Ryzen 7 3700x and NVidia 2060 Super. I am in a search of a good but not overpriced motherboard and I don't need PCIe nor SLI, so I'm going for B450. I know that MSI B450 Tomahawk Max is one of the best choices, but I was wondering, what about MSI B450-A pro max? It is cheaper, but is it worse than Tomahawk Max and how much? Any other alternative? And please, compare it with Tomahawk Max.

Hi! 64 bit system, 1050 ti, Ryzen 5,... It's mostly a software question. So, I have a MSI tomahawk mobo, and the stock CPU fan is slightly louder than I would like it to be, as it ramps up and down a little unexpectedly. I was using the Dragon center to control it, as it could set the fan speed. However, the Dragon Center only displays Mystic Light now and True Color, and doesn't show any other charts/options, like it did before. Does someone else have this problem or know how to fix it? I am wondering, since going to the BIOS to adjust the fan curve is prefered, but if the software was working I don't really see the need to.

Hello, I am building a PC so that I can play FiveM (aka Gta Rp) and lots of other games and I was wondering if this was a good setup: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, G.Skill RipJaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600Mhz, Samsung 970 EVO SSD 1TB, ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2060 Super Advanced Overclocked EVO 8G. Should I change anything ? Also, can anyone help me find a case that is under $100 and can fit everything listed above. Thank you.

I'm half way through building a new PC and I've come across a slight issue. My motherboard has 2 USB headers, and I need to plug in - 1 CPU fan USB (Wraith Prism), 1 front USB, and the V2 Smart device of my H510i. Clearly theres an issue where I need 3 USB headers and I've only got 2. What do I do? I want to use the smart device for sure. If I don't plug in the fan USB, will I lose control of the RGB and the CPU fan entirely? Or should I just skip having a front USB port? I've looked on amazon and an NZXT usb header HUB, for 3 USB headers is about 20 quid. I'll buy one, but not if there isn't an easier/cheaper option. Cheers

Finally i have finalised my parts list and have managed to stretch my budget to just squeeze in a R5 3600, 1660 and 2x8gb 3200mhz cl16 vengence lpx. However, the board I had in mind - MSI b450 tomahawk max - is allegedly having issues with 3000 series ryzen despite being branded as 300 series ready. Does anybody have any clues as to what is going on / if there is a fix? Also, should i still purchase this board (it will be purchased about 6-8 weeks before I purchase the rest of the components due to how cheap it is) ? I dont want to purchase a board that will be useless with the rest of my components due to my tight budget. I chose the board since it is within my £110 budget and has good vrms for ocing and a reasonable feature set. Thanks for the help, Lex.

Hi, I am deciding between those two motherboards. From my point of view, these are the main differences: - The Tomahawk is ATX, while the Mortar is mATX. Would the former be better in terms of cooling/airflow because attached components would be more spaced? The case will be the Phanteks P400A RGB, which comes with 3 front intake fans, and the CPU cooler will be the Scythe Fuma 2. - Both motherboards seem to have the same or very similar VRMs, but the Tomahawk has an additional heat sink on the top part. I am currently considering a Ryzen 5 3600, but later, I might step up to a higher processor if the price/performance ratio is good. Also, although the 3600 doesn't allow for much overclocking, the memory modules may do. So, would this additional heat sink be helpful for a higher processor or memory overclocking? These are other differences that may or may not be relevant: - The Mortar has an additional M.2 slot, but if I ever put a second SSD, it would probably not run as fast as the one connected to the first slot, so this second slot is not too advantageous, right? - The Tomahawk has one more 4-pin fan connector, which may be handy if I want to throw in an additional fan, but I can probably daisy-chain some fans to connect more to the Mortar, right? - The Mortar has two additional USB 3.0 ports on the back and S/PDIF output, which is nice. - The Tomahawk has a 4-pin water-pump-fan connector, but may not be relevant as I don't plan to use water cooling (at least for now). So, if you have answers to my questions or additional thoughts, please let me know.

Hey, I bought some new PC parts and this is my setup now: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Ryzen 5 3600 GTX 1060 2 * 8GB DDR4-3000 Corsair Vengeance PSU 430W, 80+ Bronze ... Now everything worked fine at first, but everytime i shutfown in any way (shutdown, sleep, ...), it does not always boot up. It just gets stuck on a black screen doing nothing. I have to force shutdown and then it starts normally. Does anyone now what the problem is?

Hello, i want to buy Ryzen 7 3700X and use it with MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX since it supports Ryzen 3gen out of the box. Is it good idea? Will there by any performance loss againts some low-end X570 MB? Is the price difference really wurf againts Ryzen5 3600X or should i stick with 3600X and Tomahawk MAX since im "on budget" and cant afford good X570MB for Ryzen 7?

Im looking for a good quality wifi card that fits and work well with my B450 Tomahawk motherboard, budget is uo to $30 Max, i dont need one with aggressive antenna as my CaP is quite close to my room, and signal is always ok, between my phone, laptop, ps3 or cheapo Xiaomi 4K android TV. What I'm worried about is more for the bandwidth ceiling, and id like it to feel like im using direct ethernet-ish quality out of it. (low ping for games and good download speed, whether for torrent or normal download) (for info I dont think powerline adapter would work, as theres multiple power switch at my home of which my room doesnt use the same one with ones near the router). Suggestion would be appreciated, thanks ?

I just built my first PC. Upon every boot, all 4 EZ Debug LEDs (CPU, DRAM, VGA & BOOT) are flashing red 1 by 1, then after a few seconds, they stop. I really don't understand why. Everything works - I can go to the BIOS, Windows installed successfully, all drivers installed, works flawlessly. My build is Define C with 2x LPX Black and Tomahawk Max, I don't want to overspend and it's more than likely that I'm going to leave the CPU for now and perhaps try to overclock when neccesary. The Noctua NH-D15 is what my eye is drawn to but I feel like it might be overkill to go for that big of a cooler, but please do correct me if I'm wrong! Best regards, Chauska

MSI tomahawk max has only one pcie 3.0 x16 port - which will be occupied by my Graphics Card. Does this mean that the M.2 NVME SSD will work on Pcie 2.0 speeds? Would that mean reduced performance? I have read that whenever you plug in a M.2 SSD, it either disables Sata Ports (if its M.2 Sata) or a Pcie Slot ( if it is NVME). Hence, i am under the impression that you have to have a Pcie 3.0 X4 slot left, if you want to use an NVME ssd. Is that not so? Short Question : Can i run 1 graphic card and 1 nvme ssd at their full performance in MSI Tomahawk Max
