Okay so I'm not sure exactly how to word this question but, hopefully some of you will understand. If an object in Canada is purchased by someone living in USA, and has taxes applied to it through customs... What if: a) Someone in Canada purchases that object and brings it along with him to USA? b) Someone in Canada purchases that object and ships it by courier to USA? c) Someone in US goes to Canada to receive that object and brings it back with him? Also, is there any other scenario that I'm missing out here. If so, what would happen in that case? Preferably a scenario in which you don't have to pay customs/tariffs/taxes

I just wanted to know if anyone has bought LTT merch in India, and if yes, what were all the costs incurred? (Taxes, Customs etc.)

Hi all, Watching all the LTT channels for the past 5 years now, loving the content. So I purchased the CPU Pillow 50x50cm paid 69,99 dollar for it plus 19,99 dollar shipping and 18,90 dollar taxes. I do have to say the pillow is really nice, soft and looks very stylish in my living room! Took a month to get to the Netherlands, but when it got at the postal service they send me another invoice for taxes. They from the postoffice kept telling me i paid for US taxes, and not theirs which is 21,55 euro (Inklaringskosten). So i looked at the track & trace and saw it went from Vancouver to Los Angeles and then to the Netherlands. As far as I know and can find online you only have to pay taxes from origin to destination and not when a package is transfered between planes in another country. So in total i now paid 135,86 dollar to get it delivered which is about double the original price. The post office is basing their decision on https://www.lttstore.com/pages/customs-duty-fees Can anyone explain if this is even legal, or how i can prove that i paid for the correct taxes. If it's normal how do i get US taxes back because i don't think I need to pay these Thanks for the help, looking forward to replies

Summary Roblox’s CEO, David Bazucki, has been alleged by the New York Times, for not paying for millions of dollars in taxes through a legal loophole. They used small business tax to evade millions in taxes. Quotes My thoughts I don’t think it’s his fault. Yes it is annoying, but they took advantage of a loophole and look what happened, it worked and saved them tens of millions of dollars. Summary America's wealthiest individuals, including Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, George Soros and Elon Musk, paid little to no federal income tax for years, according to tax returns leaked to the investigative website ProPublica. ProPublica said it has seen the tax returns of the country's wealthiest people covering more than 15 years. The White House condemned the unauthorised leak on Tuesday and the US Treasury said it had been referred to the FBI. ProPublica compared what the 25 richest Americans paid in taxes against how much Forbes estimated their wealth grew during the same period, and found they paid just a fraction in federal income taxes - $13.6 billion - on $401 billion in increased wealth. It claims to have seen the tax returns of Mr Bezos, the founder of Amazon, Tesla founder Mr Musk and billionaire investor Warren Buffett. Quotes My thoughts While the article stated that "There is no suggestion that any of the individuals acted illegally", It show how absurd the situation really is. The average North American pays, in average 10% to 37% income taxes. The fact that Billionaires can get away with almost 0% server to broaden the gap between poverty and wealth. No one is saying "Eat the rich", but, let's face it, if you have a lot of money, it becomes more and more difficult to lose it. I’m thinking of building a pc. However, I’m moving to another country in like 4 months. If I build a pc in my current location and transport it with me to the other country, will I have to pay some extra cash? I heard that that may happen to prevent people from buying components in a country where its cheaper and bringing it back to their home country but I’m not sure. If its a thing, how much extra cash do I have to pay for a pc?

Quotes What is import duty into EU since forever - 7%? And then 20-24% sales tax on top of that. Don't think Americans will get any sympathy from European GPU buyers. Source: https://www.guru3d.com/news_story/in_the_new_yearthe_united_states_may_reimpose_gpu_import_tariffs.html

A question for you Americans or anyone who lives there or knows this. Why in America, for electronics people don't pay taxes? Or do you but it's not when you buy a product but some time after? Or the tax is 2% or 3% so you barely notice it? How does the system work over there? By tax, i mean the VAT. The Value Added Tax.

Hello, I just want to know how many W8-BEN forms do I fill up? I already signed one on getty images, if I want to contribute also to adobe stock should I sign up another form? Or in other words, do I need to fill up a form for every website I do freelancing with?

Hey Guys, Well the new business survived the first year. Website - check, network for 5 offices - check, computers and printers - check. In a few months its time to go to the account and do taxes. I've saved all the receipts and have them broken down to month. But I wanted to actually go to the account with everything organized by month. I've never done this before so thought I'd look for a software program instead of making my own excel document until I have a better grasp on things. So any suggestions or videos to see what is out there for tax software for keeping self employed expenses and income documented? Thanks again in advance for your help. Denver

Source: The Verge Apple has been denied exclusions on five parts for the Mac Pro which will lead to the components in question subject to a 25% import tax. It might not be all doom and gloom for Apple though, as the company says a US manufacturing might be worthwhile due to the value of the new Mac Pro, and the migration of manufacturing of the new Mac Pro to Austin, TX. This confirmation follows in the footsteps of the ongoing trade war between USA - or just Donald Trump for that matter - and China, in which Trump has a firm foot in the ground to disable American companies from importing from China. 25% import tax sounds like it'll bite the multi-billion dollar Apple, the question remains on how this will affect Mac Pro manufacturing, sales, as well as profit for them. It doesn't help Apple - or by extension any American company - that Trump is so adamant to stop China trade, Tim Cook has previously spoken out about the trade war and how much it might hurt the company. It will also be interesting to see how Apple does with its manufacturing now that they have moved manufacturing from China to Austin, TX. Plenty of changes and plenty of improvisation and adaptation to be done by Apple in particular.

So i've never really bought a card directly from the site before. 699$ for the 3080 just seems too good of a price and the performance seems to be well worth it compared to the 20xx series. I'm looking to make the jump from my 1060 to a 3080 for 1440p and higher gaming. I was really excited! My original intention was to buy a 20xx series card( which are incredibly overpriced in my country). Most tech in my country is really overpriced due to import tax and stuff. (I question whether the import tax they charge is even legal but i feel as though our import sector is far too corrupt and looking to make a quick buck off people who can afford to buy things like this and there's really no one that can challenge that sector). Imports can charge upto even 200% of the item price when the item is right outside your doorstep and you've already paid for it. Prices are going to take a while to change even for the 20xx series in my country which still cost upwards of 1000$ for a 2080 super... and will continue to cost that way till the new cards start getting imported in. So i intend on just getting the card and having it hand-carried home or collecting it when i visit the states. ;__; Since this is my first time ordering from the nvidia site i also had a few questions. (i can't order directly to pakistan because import tax will rip me apart with a 1500-1600$+ charge for the 3080). I'm really looking forward to cyberpunk 2077 as well like you have no idea how much hype i have. As its looking rn i will not be able to have the card in my ownership till... december/january at the latest which is really disappointing considering i was JUST about to buy a 20xx on 5th september. But alas i'm hoping i can find some solution or a relative that's visiting from the US. Now to my questions. 1) It only gives me a option to deliver to the USA on nvidia website. Would it be possible for me to say send the card to London or something? (i have a few relatives coming over from London) 2) I'm big confused here. it takes me big brain energy to not instantly gratify myself with a 20xx series purchase but that would just be dumb at this point lol. Is there anything i can potentially do here? tired of living in a country where my currency is so devalued compared to the value of a $ and i still have to pay so much more money than regular consumers T_T. 3) What is the exact process of ordering from the nvidia website directly? Yeah that's basically it. I apologize if this wasn't the correct space to post this.... I did try to look around and wasn't able to find a suitable tag for this heading. Hey and this is the first forum i've used in ages! Seems to be fun here. Oh and if anyone is coming from the states to PAK between 17th-30th pls lemme kno kthx c:::

If someone wins an international giveaway from a different country other than the US, do they need to pay money for the import taxes?

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, this post is for informational and entertainment purposes only. Consult a tax professional for more information or before making any decision. For the most part, the way sales tax works in the states is that if you are a retailer and have a "nexus" in a state (meaning various things, but a primary test is a warehouse or employees) the retailer must collect and remit tax to that state on sales made to the final retail consumer. If you have no nexus, you do not have to collect and remit (for many states, retailers can "opt-in" to collecting but usually do not due to liability) sales tax. If the retailer does not collect tax, it is the responsibility of the buyer to remit Use Tax (a companion tax to Sales Tax) to your state, most commonly on your personal tax return. In exchange for not having to collect in remit, retailers may have to supply sales records in a particular state on the request/subpoena of that state. Failure to accurately or estimate-in-good-faith your untaxed retail purchases is generally your liability. This is done to simplify the sales tax schemes of retailers, primarily to the beinifiet of small and indie businesses (such as eBay and Etsy sellers) who would be crushed by the burden of having to track the vast multitude of rates, methods, schemes. Please ask your tax preparer to make sure you are not failure to declare needed purchases and carefully read the instructions on your states tax return.

I started voting in the Intel Rig Challenge on Twitter, and since LinusTechTips is one of the influencers chosen to be a host/judge, I hope this is the right place for this. It didn't seem very clear to me how you're supposed to find out whether you win, and I had the impression you had to be at PAX to claim your prize. So I skimmed through the rules and found out. But just in case anyone else is curious but doesn't want to look through it, here's what I found. If someone wins either an Intel Rig or an Oculus Rift, how do they find out they are a winner? You don't have to be at PAX. Keep an eye on your Twitter on the draw dates and shortly thereafter. Intel will inform you that you have won with a tweet, but you might receive that tweet from @quangoinc. I reasonably suspect they'll send out the tweet upon confirmation of the draw, but this seems to be at their discretion as it is not mentioned in the terms. After the tweet you will have two days to follow them, if you haven't already, so they can send you a direct message. Then you'll have another two days to give them your first & last names, full mailing address, eMail address, and date of birth. If you win the Grand Prize, you'll be expected to fill out a tax form for the IRS, even if you're a resident of Canada. Canadians also have to answer a "mathematical skill-testing question". Be aware that the IRS form will ask for your SSN (US) or SIN (Canada). You will also have to sign some kind of form saying you are eligible to receive the prize, and probably give them permission to announce you as a winner. You will have 7 days to complete this part of the process. The language in the terms implies this can all be done electronically. The terms point out that you are only a "potential winner" until proven eligible. A note on Taxes Clarification for the following portion would be strongly appreciated. It should be noted that if the value of your prize is being reported to the IRS for Intel's taxes it may be considered as some form of income on your annual taxes, or you may have to pay tax upon delivery, as the terms specify that "all applicable taxes on the prize are the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner". For example, if I won the Grand Prize, I might be stuck paying $619.20 for the computer and have to report $5160 as income on my annual income tax. This might push me into another tax bracket, and cause me to pay a lot more taxes for the whole year. With that in mind I really hope to win an Oculus Rift, but I might not be able to afford "winning" a PC. Dates related to the challenge Oculus Rift drawing dates take place 5 days after the entry period ends. Two winners will be selected each and two draw dates remain (4 Rifts still available to be won as of this posting). These dates are May 14th, and May 28th. Voting ends June 8th, and on June 11th Five Grand Prize Winners will be selected.

An update to newegg collecting CT sales tax
draginator posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Attached is the email I received this morning. Looks like if you didn't pay anything yet you should be in the clear. -
Techspot has an article on some news coming out of the EFF concerning a new proposal within the European Parliament to impose a Link Tax as a part of the update to the European Copyright Directive. Basically as it is worded, websites and news publishers would be required to pay a copyright-fee to the original source of a news article or to include even small snippets of those articles in their own stories. Seeing as how a lot of the news articles on the LTT forum require a source article and quotation of text, I could see that this would create a lot of additional burden as well as the way news stories are multiply linked and sourced online, this will just be a headache to follow and implement... https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/04/european-copyright-law-isnt-great-it-could-soon-get-lot-worse While I don't live in Europe, I could see this having a massive impact on news & information sharing, especially in ensuring that news is shared to the rest of the outside from Europe... Seems more like an information control ploy than something that is actually useful. https://www.techspot.com/news/74113-european-copyright-directive-impose-link-tax-subsidize-publishers.html

Belgium is going to tax income gained from speculating on cryptocurrency. Posted below is an article in Dutch about the subject. The article comes from a low quality Belgian newspaper but the article is accurate in stating that Belgium is going to tax bitcoin income. Background A student developed a program to automatically buy and sell bitcoins. The student in question got an income from this. The Belgian tax administration decided in a ruling that this income falls under "various income" (art 90, 1° WIB 92). This means there will be a 33% tax on the income. In the ruling the administration only decided on a case of Bitcoin speculation, but it stands to reason that the administration will also apply art. 90, 1° WIB 92 on income generated by speculating with other cryptocurrencies. It is important to note that the administration did not create a new rule. It simply applied an existing article of the tax code to a new situation (bitcoin speculation). ARTICLE: https://www.hln.be/geld/speculeren-met-bitcoins-zet-dan-al-maar-33-procent-opzij-voor-de-fiscus~aa8441ad/ RULING: http://ccff02.minfin.fgov.be/KMWeb/document.do?method=view&id=6f2cb67c-4015-40fb-9d45-e54420e507b0&caller=1#findHighlighted

I want to get EVGA gtx 1080 ftw2, it costs 675 euro(with shipping) on their EU site. This is equal to ~1320BGN, while the same GPU is 590 usd(its actually 575, but I assumed shipping is 15, anyway) which is 982 BGN. That makes it almost 1/3 cheaper! For this amount of money I can't even get a 1070 here. So let's say I find a trustworthy person that will go on holiday to USA (or just lives there and will be coming here). If they buy me the GPU from usa, is there any problem to take it in their suitcase and give it to me when they come back? Would I (they?) still have to pay VAT, taxes or something like that?

In line with the many many tax evasion reports recently like the one about Apple in Japan and Europe, Google has allegedly been evading taxes from "advertising revenue" in Indonesia. Google however responded with a statement that they are cooperating with the tax office. Source(s): Reuters KitGuru My opinion: This is probably a way to scare the local companies to abide by tax laws since most of the time a lot of local companies don't follow them (very well). Maybe this is the government trying to show "We're not scared to go after these giants. You all better pay your taxes or we might slap your wrists harder than usual."

I was about to order a 8gb RX480 from newegg since its the first card in my budget to be worth it. It was NZ$331 and i was thinking oh yes finally an upgrade. Then after shipping and import duty its $443 waaaat. $77 import charges, i can no longer buy it, everything is always overpriced in New Zealand . Should I just get a 4gb model and see if its a flashable 8gb rebadge? Im gaming at 1080p and a 5670 hasn't cut it for me for about a year now.

I've been planning this build for a while now and I've wondered about how tax will work. I've been reading articles about how tax works and I've been trying to figure out how much tax I would have to pay for PC parts but I still don't understand. If there's anybody that could tell me how much tax will cost for my build that would be appreciated. Do I even have to pay tax on PC parts? I heard people say that tax is only charged if you live in California (which I don't) but that doesn't sound true to me. I don't know, could somebody help? Thanks for all the help guys!
