2023-11-20 - UPDATE: It was a dying SSD. It's been all good after replacing it. Every reinstall of windows that I have made in the last few months has had errors with various System32 files. I've had to reinstall windows nearly once a week before it becomes unusable. Today my 1-week-old installation removed the Internet capabilities from my PC completely (the icon was just gone) so I had to install again but this time it's getting harder and harder to get a usable install on the first try. Pic related are some of my install attempts and what the windows updates looks like with these errors. The last two photos are the install I'm using atm. (Unsurprisingly, Mabinogi still runs without that failed DirectX. It always just works. ) I've run all the scans (chkdsk, all 3 dism, and sfc) they all spot errors but have never been able to repair them 100% on any of my installs. I did run the built-in memory tester on Windows 10 on my RAM a few weeks ago, it came out good. And my SSD's health comes out as 94% healthy in CrystalDiskInfo today, it's lost 1% in the last two weeks. Is it safe to say this is an issue with the SSD? Or could this be multiple problems? Any insight is appreciated, please and thank you. I have an HP Pavilion All-in-one 24-b010. Wi-Fi Card is an Intel 9260. About 5 months ago the Bluetooth stopped working on it a couple of days after I had Accidently changed the Ownership of the System32 Folder from Trusted Installer to An Administrative user (It was reset back to Trusted Installer after a windows update). I've reinstalled the drivers and reseated the card aswell but to no avail Bluetooth just stopped working. Could it have been a file in the System32 folder that caused this?

I want to fool around with destroying my windows VM. Unfortunately, (or fortunately for everyone else) it's not as simple as going into file explorer, going to system32 and deleting files. How would I go about doing that? (Powershell/cmd answers appreciated) :WARNING: Don't try this unless you know your important data is safe. If someone is giving you advice to delete files in system32, they're likely trolling you.

I was deleting corrupted files for truckers mp and somehow deleted system 32 by mistake despite the fact they are in different sections of my pc does anyone know how to fix/reinstall it or do I have to reset my hard drive and reinstall Windows

My Computer bricked one night and everytime I hit the power button immediatly flashed and then turned off. I took the only drive in the system out and put it in my friends rig to recover the data on it because It contains important school work and nothing I have done so far can let me boot with this drive. I put my friends drive back in and now hes getting the same error (in the title) as I was. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hey I was thinking if you have ransomware and cant get it off your pc, can you just get a new disk and put windows on it and Bam! it works. Or am i missing something and it infects the hardware its self and no fixing it?

Hi, Linus community, Two days ago a got a virus on my pc. At the time it was working fine, but when I restarted it, there was a black screen with a pop-up window of cmd command mentioning "C:\windows\system32>". Since then, I don't have access to windows nor can I access bios to boot from USB in order to format windows. What can I do to fix this issue? Can I recover windows or do I need to format it? If its the later, how do I access bios? Any suggestions?

Good morning, yesterday I installed a newer version of Armoury Crate and the ASUS Framework Service/Core-SDK on my laptop. A few hours later I restarted my computer and noticed, that cscript.exe would be executed on boot. I immediately thought I had caught myself some malware. However, with Procmon I was able to trace the origin of the execution to the asus_framework.exe (process: ASUS NodeJS Web Framework). I now believe, that no malicious software is behind this issue, however, it annoys me a fair bit. Can anyone confirm, that this is happening on their computer as well? Just want to be 100% sure that everything is safe (however, even Kaspersky did not find anything). I have an Asus ROG Strix Scar III (G531GW), so maybe it will not affect those with solely an Asus motherboard. And finally, how may I disable this pop-up on startup? I cannot find it in the system configuration. Maybe it´s essential, but I just want to hide it, not disable it. Thank you so much in advance for any information on this topic! Regards

Sooo, I turned my pc off an hour ago, got home and started it, now the only thing that I saw was a black screen with cmd that said "system32". (I see the login screen after I log in its the black screen!) I used explorer.exe (or something similar) now I'm here, but every time I restart I see that window. I did multiple virus scans nothing, I was downloading a game before I turned my PC off and I already deleted it. I also tried "shift restarting"/"booting into safe mode", but when I log in it says I put the wrong password even if its right I changed it after that and it still doesn't work... I think if my antivirus doesn't pick anything up ill just do a reset, and clean my C drive with that... is this a good plan? maybe there is something you guys know. I am very confused neither my friends know what this is. I hope someone can help me (i am terribly sorry for my bad English, i really hope you understand something) EDIT: Malwarebytes just found 21 potential risks, called Riskware (i don't know wth this is) but someone was mining with my PC (it says riskware.Bitcoinminer) sounds very suspicious lol

Hey, i currently have windows installed on a sandisk 128gb ssd which can deliver up to about 30 mb/s random read speed (460 mb/s serial). Now i also have a much faster nvme drive which brings things to a whole new level with random read speeds of 1000 mb/s (3300 mb/s serial). Now i've noticed small delays (maybe 500ms) when opening programs located in system32 (eg taskmgr, explorer, cmd). Could i get rid of this if i would move system32 to my nvme drive and make a junction link to it's new location? I've used this trick before to store programs on other drives if they won't let me choose their installation path but system32 might just be a bit more critical... I really don't want to install windows from scrach nor do i want to install windows on an nvme drive because i am almost certain that this would cause a lot of problems... especially because i'm talking about win 8.1 if yes, how could i do this? I am quite sure that things would stop working as soon as i begin moving system32...

Hello everyone! On my windows 10 I had the problem that mrcvsr100.dll was missing (after a large update, thank Microsoft, great job destroying my system). To try to fix this myself, I downloaded mrcvsr100.dll from a website that (according to some article) was a reliable website. I tried to drag the .ddl file into my C:/Windows/System32 folder, but I wasn't allowed to do so. Instead of realizing that I should have stopped at that point, I searched for a way to change the permissions on the System32 folder, and I did exactly what this video told me to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8iVItLhQgY After following the instructions, I actually still couldn't paste the .dll into the folder, so that didn't work out, this might mean I didn't follow all the steps exactly, or did something wrong, but I strongly doubt that, since I double checked everything. After realizing that didn't work, I stopped thinking about it, I played some games, and I shut down my computer. When I wanted to log in to Windows 10 again (after rebooting the pc, obviously), I typed my password, but it wasn't correct. Some might suggest caps lock was on, or my keyboard was set to 'qwerty' (I'm Belgian, so I use 'azerty', because universal standards are stupid, or something like that) but I checked all of those things. I'm also very sure of my password, since I typed it a few hours earlier before editing the System32 folder permissions. There is no way, the password I gave was wrong, that's not an option. What I suspect, is that the part of the Windows 10 OS responsible for login is located somewhere in a sub-folder of C:/Windows/System32 and I broke it by changing the permissions on C:/Windows/System32 (and all its sub-folders). (System repair also didn't work, since the password is needed for that.) One thing that is actually a good thing (I think) is that I have an Ubuntu partition on the same computer (the Ubuntu partition is actually my main OS) and I'm capable of accessing my Windows 10 file system through Ubuntu. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Thanks! (also, just because it might be useful for people to know, when they'd like to give examples or something: pc-name: TOPLAPTOP, user-name: EE) --TINY BIT OF AN UPDATE!!!--- Okay, so after a bit of trying different passwords, something weird happened: I have a Microsoft-account using my main e-mail address. For a long time the password of my Windows 10 was the same as the one for the e-mail address. A month ago I changed to password of the e-mail address, but since that point, I logged into my Windows 10 a lot with the old password, because I only changed the e-mail password, not of my Windows 10. The random forced update happened: I logged into my Windows 10, STILL using my original password. So nothing weird was happening. After doing all the things in my original post, I couldn't log in any more with my old (and I assumed still correct, since I DIDN'T change it) password. But now it turns out, I CAN log in with my new e-mail password I set a month ago. So the only conclusion I can make is that Microsoft synchronized my Windows 10 password with my e-mail password WITHOUT TELLING ME, at a random point in time. Anyone know how this is possible?

Yeah. It broke. I'm stuck on an error screen, giving me the options: "Press Enter to Try Again" (doesn't work) Press F8 for Start-Up Settings (doesn't work either) Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings (that works though) What should I do?

Recently i build a new pc, and when trying to play a couple of games i was requested get some dll, but i cant edit mi windows 32 carpet, when i try to edit the admin acces i cant edit any of those option (in the system 32 properties) i think my only acc is not recognized as the owner of the pc, any advice you could give me? thanks for your help in advance. I have windows 10 btw.

Everytime I try and play a game that uses DX11, I get an error saying that the d3d11.dll is missing in my SYSTEM32 folder. I tried installing/reinstalling DX11 but it won't let me, saying something along the lines of, I already have DX11 and don't need to reinstall. I've also tried reinstalling video drivers, and I'm using the latest ones from AMD. I'm also using Windows 8.1. Can someone help me fix this? I can't play most of my games and can't install new games. Is there a way to completely reinstall DX11? Or force update/repair it?

So I know all the dangers of tampering with system 32 but I was wondering, because everyone keeps saying your pc will not boot... and my understanding of an os is that it is on the hdd... so if someone loses system 32, can't they just format the drive and reinstall windows?
