Hey there! I've been watching LTT since I started at my technical high school, where I eventually settled in on Hardware, Service & Support as my study, which was basically just tech support for people; Teachers and students would come in for free and I was usually the one tasked with fixing devices both hardware and software. As you can imagine I almost feel embarrassed reaching out for help but Windows has me at my whits end. So here is the situation. My computer is a bit of a Frankenstein's monster, made of fairly ancient parts. Due to personal problems it isn't financially viable to upgrade my PC to modern spec right now. (I priced out a $1500 build with all the storage I need as most of my drives are very old and/or damaged I will list my rig at the end) Windows has essentially presented me with an ultimatum as Windows update is non-functional because I tampered with it to force it to stop updating and I didn't think to make it reversible. Since I can't update to 22H2 and am stuck on 21H2 I cannot do the "upgrade" for lack of a better word to AtlasOS, so I need to decide; reinstall Windows 10 so that I can use AtlasOS or Install SteamOS via HoloISO unless Steam has allowed SteamOS 3.0 to be used on any hardware. I could really use guidance on this since I have only dabbled with using Linux as my main computer where I do a lot of work and gaming in the past and still feel uncomfortable moving if it means I can no longer use programs I nearly daily drive such as FL Studio, After Effects, Blender, Unreal Engine 5, etc. As well as my slew of games I rapidly interchange such as, Red Dead, Deep Rock, Star Citizen, Sea of Thieves, Tarkov (Which I don't mind too much on giving up on, haha), etc. I hope someone from LTT can help me out as well as this community! Is it possible to boot steam os from the micro SD card and then use an external GPU on steam os? I can only find videos of people trying it with windows.

Hi. Straight to the question. I have a Linux installed on my laptop which I use for a couple of things all of which are not game related. Now I wanted to install the Steam OS on my desktop computer to game on Linux but I still want to be able to use it for other purposes. I generally use Linux for some network related stuff so I need to be able to have free access to installing and adjusting as I go. 1. Will the Steam OS give me free access just like a regular installation of Linux? or will it be limiting. 2. Will a regular installation of Linux run games just as well as Steam OS? Does the Steam OS have any particular advantage( performance related, or else) over the Linux? Thanks for the help. Big fan of the LMG here.

Hello guys! Hope all has been well, haven't been on the site for quite sometime, just have a lot going on and really don't want to think about it, and just move alone going back into gaming on both sides of the world (PC|Console) Mainly the PC scene, its been sitting up for a while it's my latest build but anyway Do any of you guys by chance own a Steam Controller? i own the Steam Link (older version) as bundled package without "any game" which was fine, ecstatic as hell when i powered on my Link and paired the controller, this is one of the problems i am having. It does Steam Link fine, i like the controller so much for all my elder scrolls steam games, and love it along with having the community partake into helping making it bigger than what it is now. And love it's solid, just have to get used to it just like we all did, changing consoles from childhood to adulthood, and both evolving together, now i unplug my Steam Link take the USB drive plug it into the back of my Computer or plugged into my keyboard, turn on the controller, greeting you as you would turn the controller on, then the home button, flashed slow then mega fast like it was having a heart attack.. Then keep plugging the USB drive, or restart and same issue would i have to pair it to my gaming selfbuilt pc? Because samething happening over and over and pretty annoying it has to be some kind of way to pair the usb drive for connectivity. Only way i can some what have this work, is take the usb cable plug the controller via USB powered The USB drive that comes with the controller that's but has to be remained plugged, i plan on getting two and longer cables. The USB cable that ships with it, i know it's a micro usb cable, cant really tell, if i need USB type A or B ? i share this cable with my XBOX One controller, bad thing is the plug doesn't stay in.and game pad gets disconnected (XBOX ONE pad) Not trying to sound like some hotshot or something, but i don't participate on forums, i used to many years ago, you ask question and respond in a very rude manner, and degrading hardware the thread starter feel less than a human being. But that doesn't bother me, what bothers me is you go way out the way to be kind and respectful and just so rude also the worst Grammar/Spelling Nazi's pretty pointless doesn't just because of a simple mistake spelling "GAME" "GAEM" etc but its just ridiculous. Hey i'm that annoying person who just can't let go of the idea of gaming on pocket PCs, and guess what guise, the Smach Z, that thing that has struggle to even become a thing for the longest time has finally reached the working almost final prototype stage, it's pretty thicc, but it's not quite final hardware yet, so hopefully they might be able to make it a bit smaller before release, for anyone interested, there's a bunch of videos from gamescom.

Hi In the next week or so, once parts arrive, I'll be putting together a new PC. So all the hard choices on what parts to get have been made but now it's time for possibly the hardest. What OS do I install? As a student I can get Windows 8.1 Pro for around $70 AUD and then I'm assuming Win 10 Pro for the same price when it's released (or free depending on rumours) Other options are installing Windows 10 technical preview and getting windows 10 when it is released. Or even having a go at Steam OS until Win 10 comes out. Or if you have any other suggestions please let me know However I'm a fan of Windows 8.1 so I won't be reverting back to 7, in saying that I can understand why some people don't like 8. Also I will have a 250GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, which drive should I put the OS on? Obviously SSD, but if I'm going to be doing a fresh install of 10 when it is released would it be better for SSD life to put the temporary OS on the HDD? Things to considered are that I have a laptop with 8.1 on it which I can still use for uni and general productivity, leaving mostly gaming for the new PC. At least till 10 comes out. Thanks

Valve have announced that BL2 and BL the Pre Sequel are coming to steam OS. I think that this is great and will help to move people over to steam OS. I have a question: With Steam OS becoming a platform what does this mean for linux as it's linux based? I might use Steam OS on a different drive if needed but does this previous fact show that I could just use Linux, as Windows is obviously a dying breed? Simply put, Is Steam OS making games Linux compatible or Steam OS compatible?

Hi, currently I am interested in the growing Chromebook market and would like a small cheap laptop for school. If I get something cheap like tablet or chromebook now instead of an ultrabook I can save up money to later get a gaming laptop for gaming away from home and still have the chromebook with the great battery life. I am looking to use this chromebook for general usage, its not powerful to do anything more so in a way it would be a great way to restrict my wasting of time in classes. *Typing lectures notes. *Doing work for classes. *Watching video's. *Travel Basically a chromebook covers that in a third of the cost of what I would call a respectable ultrabook. I am not worried about the online use since my school has WiFi, there are offline apps and I plan to run Ubuntu on it. This is where the streaming comes in. From the Steam OS videos on NCIXcom and LinusTechTips it was said that with a main computer host with a good GPU and a client with a reasonable CPU, you can stream games to the client. Is the HP Chromebook 14's Intel Celeron 2955U (based on Haswell) and 4GB of RAM fast enough to stream to the Ubuntu portion of the Chromebook. Has anyone tried this? It would be cool if I could use the chromebook for something else. I am mostly sure I want a chromebook and not a tablet+keyboard combo for notes. In my opinion chromebook beats most android tablets in almost everyway such as more or equal battery life, bigger screen, keyboard, touchpad. I am not into tablets I prefer laptop style so thats why chromebook. And it's gaining popularity and already has plenty of apps. The HP Chrombook 14 seems to beat the Toshiba, Dell, Samsung, in terms of performance and quality. Thank you.

Hey guys, I was wondering if you knee how one would go about using the new Steam in home game streaming. I have already joined the steam client beta group and the steam in home streaming group. I installed steam on both machines and enabled the beta on both. Does anyone know what I do or what happens next? Thanks.

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but I have a quick question about the new Steam OS. One of the features mentioned is the ability to stream games from a more powerful computer on the same network to your 'steam box' and onto your TV. I wanted to know what kind of power a computer would need in order to stream these games, as all of the grunt would be done with the main computer else where could one just build a cheap small computer (ie, cheap dual core, 2 - 4gb ram, no GPU etc) and sufficiently run the games on Steam OS via this method of streaming. The reason I ask is because I have a large computer (specs in signature) and think it would be cool to be able to stream it down to the lounge but only if I can do it with around a £200 build (otherwise it just becomes to expensive and I may as well get a PS4 for down there). Look forward to an answer and discussion on this, if you don't quite understand what I am asking feel free to ask me to clarify.

So after last WAN show it's safe to say that we all agree Forbes reporting pc gaming news is kinda ignorant. Now Forbes is not a bad company or anything an their writers are alright. They just don't know what they are talking about. At some point they had a meeting an decided that their majority now includes pc gamers, which they probably do. Forbes caters to men ranging from 20-50, an most guys 12-40 game in some way. These articles are old but they haven't been brought up. this link takes you to a article from 01/24/14 Writer Gordon Kelly bashes on Steam OS with nothing but opinions an no facts. If you scroll down you will find even more articles bashing Steam OS, all with very little facts. If Forbes is going to start reporting gaming news they need to hire better freelance writers.
