My gaming PC has been gradually slowing down to a crawl since January and I have not been able to determine a root cause. It will crap out at around 32GB of RAM usage and be at about 35% of the CPU load then on average. Restarting the PC temporarily fixes it. Some programs and games can take a long time to load and have had crashes to desktop. Common programs with high RAM usage include Firefox, Backblaze, Steam, and Bitdefender. No malware has been detected. I have had a few BSOD crashes over the past month, but I'm not sure if any are directly related to the problem. Hardware info is below. I have a Corsair RM850x 850watt 80+Gold power supply.

Okay, so this is hard to explain, but just hear me out... My PC has randomly started to feel slower/sluggish, but only doing certain tasks. Most notably, when I open Discord and Steam, these apps normally checks for updates, but this checking process seems to take way longer than what it used to be. I'm talking like from <10 seconds (if there are no updates) to >1 minute. Not a big deal, but weird. The next thing I noticed is that Steam games take a while to start updating. This is hard to explain too, but it will just be stuck on "Updating" with no progress, then fail and claim that I have no internet connection, even when my connection is perfectly fine. I've attached the screenshot showing this in Steam below, and also a Cloudflare speed test. (Yes, my Internet speeds are slow compared to some, but it should be more than fine to play/download games) I'm at a loss as to what might be causing this slow down. It's weird. So far, I've done the following troubleshooting steps: - Ensured Windows is up to date (I am on Windows 11) - Ensured GPU drivers are up to date - Scanned my PC for viruses using ESET Internet Security (all clear) - Ran ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew and ipconfig /flushdns - Ran chkdsk with no errors - Restarted my PC multiple times - Ran CrystalDiskMark on my PC for both SSDs (all performing within spec) So, yeah, it's weird and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this further. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hello, I have a problem where software and games load slowly, but that happens only sometimes and the problem will last until PC is rebooted. The behavior is similar to having a really bad and slow hard drive. However it doesn't seem to be fully related on to how "heavy" the game or software is. Opening something extremely simple such as a calculator or text editor may take 10 seconds to open, but opening a game can also take as much time. I would say the problem occurs every 5-10 time the computer is started, and like I said when I reboot the problem will go away. When the problem is in effect watching htop doesn't show anything weird. CPU, RAM, etc show usage as expected. I've updated BIOS to the latest and it had no effect. Switched off all tree hugging options from BIOS I could find, tried different XMP options, tried to default BIOS settings. If you have some exact option in BIOS in mind that could result to this kind if behavior please tell. I've benchmarked the disks and checked SMART, all seem ok, results here: SMART results: I am not a hard drive expert but I assume according to results above the disks should are fine? From where should I continue troubleshooting? Asus Radeon RX 6600 XT Dual Intel I7 11700K Asus Z590-A Prime Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz Corsair RM850x Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS Kernel 6.2.2-060202-generic (tested on different kernels) I've used Wayland and Xorg, problem exists using both.

Hi everyone! I've been encountering a strange issue with my pc, and I thought it might be because I used Wi-Fi, but now I'm using Ethernet and encounter the same issue. the problem is that downloading things is quite slow on my computer, usually around 10mbs. I have 250mb/s internet, and it shows in every other device in my house. My laptop gets great speed, my steam deck gets great speed, but my main pc doesn't. I don't think it is a processing issue because I have a 10850K, and it's probably not an HDD issue because I see the same thing on my SSD.

Hello, my regular WiFi connection is supposed to be around 500 mb/s. Usually, my computer run it at around 200 mb/s. My antenna is facing right towards the satellite (I have a mesh system). Here's what I've tried: Force link speed to be higher than 100 mb/s. Restart the computer. Remove background apps. Help.

AdBlock - Webpages and YouTube lag/stuttering is there a fix? I have been using AdBlock for many years now, No issues until a couple of days ago... I have YouTube Premium and never had issues with AdBlock most likely cause of YouTube Premium but i fear YouTube is limiting YouTube even though i am paying for Premium... I am trying to adjust AdBlock by disabling it just for YouTube but for some reason YouTube is still running terribly, Only when i disable AdBlock or run in Incognito mode does YouTube runs like normal, Does anyone have advice for me what i should do in order to have YouTube on Chrome work without issues but still have AdBlock working for general Internet use? I am also open minded to trying other Ad Blockers if there are better ones out there,

Hi, I'm a Computer Science student, my painful journey begins when a friend told me that he had an old iMac (iMac 21.5, Mid 2010 [11,2]) that wasn't turning on and because I study this he thought I can fix it. I have to clarify that this is my first time really fixing a Mac, I used one for around a month at work, but I then changed it for a Windows one because I'm more conformable with it, so I know the bare minimum about macOs. When I just plug it in my house the PC just turned on but it was showing just a blank screen, my friend told me that he took it to a repair shop and they told him that it was a hard drive issue and that it would cost a lot. I started trying to open recovery (Command+R) but it just wouldn't open, like it was corrupted, so I opened it and take the hard drive out for testing. The guy was correct, the drive was dead, so I installed it an SSD, took a USB with High Sierra installer (last supported OS for this mac) and install it. I taught it was an easy job, spoiler, this was almost a month ago, I'm still dealing with this F iMac. When I started the OS everything looked ok, but when I test everything the PC was getting REALLY slow, it was unusable. So I checked the temps and they seem a bit high, so I thought it was a thermal issue, because this mac has more that 10 years and has never been cleaned. So I opened it again, cleaned everything, changed the thermal paste, remove the dirt of the fans, and everything. After all of this the Mac was as slow as it was before. It had no sense, the temps were ok, no CPU usage, RAM ok, an upgrade from the HDD to SSD, no dirt, fresh OS, but it was still unusable slow. After all that, I thought macOs was the problem, so I took an Ubuntu USB and installed Ubuntu. The installer was all ok, but when it booted to Ubuntu the screen was completely black, the backlight of the display was also off, it was super strange. Tried turning it on and off but nothing worked. When booting it makes the "mac sound", white screen, then completely black until you shut it down. I tough it was an Ubuntu problem, so I tried with windows 10, but exactly the same happened. After a bit of research I found that it was a problem with the dedicated AMD GPU and the drivers, so I installed macOS again (because I erased it thinking Ubuntu or Windows would work perfect), then opened the bootcamp app -> Action -> Download Drivers. I thought it was it, but no, this iMac wanted to continue ruining my life. When I selected where the drivers to download, click OK, but then an error popped up, "Can't download the software because of a network problem". The Mac is connected to ethernet and also to wifi. My internet connection is great, it also worked great on the Mac for browsing (when you could, because it keep freezing) and things downloaded fast. I couldn't find any answers on internet. The only guide I found for installing Windows on older Macs was to modify the macOS bootcamp app to enable a 3rd option that helps installing windows. I created an USB with the Windows 7 iso using bootcamp but without the "Download drivers" option, because apparently Apple servers are not working or something and it can't download them, and also created the partition. So when the process finished I rebooted, hold Alt, but the USB was not showing. I tried the same process with Windows 8.1 (I know is a horrible OS, but it was supposed to be the last officially supported Windows). To my surprise, it booted the usb and I installed it correctly (almost). Obviously, it needed drivers because audio was not working etc. So I launched Brigadier (also searched on the apple website but this was easier), and found out, after having the drivers downloaded, that the latest Bootcamp drivers for windows on this mac where for Windows 7 (BootCamp-041-84868). Tried installing them anyway but all windows crashed. Now, I'm back on macOS, it's still VERY slow, idk what to do next, because for some reason Windows 7 installer doesn't want to show up, and the UEFI version of Windows 7 needs secure boot disabled and it can't be done on this iMac. At this point I just want to throw a brick to this F machine, nothing works, and EVERY TIME i taught i found the right path it just keeps failing or having some apple things that make thing even harder (Apple being Apple). Someone, please help, I don't know what to do next, I can say that I LITERALLY TRIED EVERYTHING, and don't know what to do now. I don't want to give back to my friend his PC that's more usable as a door stoper than as an actual PC. Makes me feel like an awful technician, I brought back to life laptops with Intel Core 2 Duo that are actually working great, and this PC with an i5 can't even open facebook. Thanks.

Hello! I’ve recently experienced and realized that my pc is not as smooth and not as fast as my friends pc’s.. When I upgraded from 60 to 165hz I noticed the difference immediately but I also noticed that my screen and gameplay wasn’t as smooth and didn’t have the same “flow” that my friends had.. I have a 1660 6gb, ryzen 5 5600x, 16gb ram 2133mhz.. I changed gpu with my friend who has an 2060 8gb to see if there would be any difference.. we didn’t notice a difference on his setup..he had a smooth experience on the windows desktop and while gaming but back on my pc with the upgraded gpu it was still the same experience as before but with more fps in game.. I always thought that it was my screen that gave me a un-smooth experience while gaming and browsing the web.. I than tried to figure out if there could be something that I could change in my pc but I don’t know what! I thought that I have upgraded everything that I could upgrade until recently.. I realized that I have 2 components that are around 8 years old.. my 650w gold power supply and my ssd with 120gb that runs windows.. I have a m.2 with 500gb that I installed for games but now am starting to wonder if I would get a better experience if I installed windows on my m.2 or upgrading my power supply… Simply asking if someone here maybe has any idea of what could be the reason for why am not having the same smooth experience as my friends and videos am seeing on YouTube ://

I bought a new ssd and installed a os not yet activated win10 home. *Kingston 960gb ssd 2.5 since its a new storage i download new drive for it and for my gpu the amd andrenaline. download a few games. but within along i notice that windows virus scan was prompted that something is trying to gain access so it blocked it. then the pc comes to slow or shows error or shutdown or bsod. i tried every cmd command from: -sfc /scannow -dism -chkdsk with either /f /r and another -attributes disk clear readonly cause it seems write protected, i did 3 clean install or format of the ssd all still leading to the same either problem. but another thing is that before i used a hdd no problem. installed another os and games, played a few on aother hdd no problem (did not download amd andrenaline cause amdrss is showing im afraid). im guessing its the ssd but it could be just trojan or something else im not looking up to. i hope to get some insight but ill keep trying but if it doesnt work for the 5th or 6th i might considered using a warranty on it if it covers it. specs : i5 9400 ram: 2x8gb hyperx beast 3200mhz at 2666 only since it cannot run 3200 mb: b365m ds3h gigabyte psu: 80+ bronze fsp something

Hi everyone, Like the title says, right clicking for context menu on desktop, or creating a new folder (in file explorer or when saving something in that window). I'm using Windows 10 Enterprise, version 22H2 19045.3516. What I've done already done: Checking CrystalDiskInfo to see of my two Samsung 1Tb NVMe drivers are doing okay. One is a Samsung OEM ROG generic one (2y old) the other is 970 EVO (~5y old, I think). SMART say both 98-99% good. Did the extended way of sfc /scannow a few times, sometimes it fixes things other times it will find no fault. (With the Chris Titus Tech Ultimate Windows Tool) Wiped the free space on both SSDs, I know this is not a good thing, but I found that sometimes this helps. DDU videodrivers and reinstalled them. My hardware is ROG Strix G15 513QM (AMD 5900HX with 3060 Mobile 6Gb and 32Gb of ram). I'm using this laptop mainly for school and I know I should format and reinstall Windows. But that's a real pain now, I need my laptop and everything installed to do assignments and projects. So I'm hoping I can find a way to fix it. My Windows install is just the way I can work productively. Hoping someone has a tip for me Thank in advance Kinds regards roopx

Hi there, for MONTHS I have had a problem with all my components, like every thing, and I have just lived with it till now. You see, I bought a new graphics card, a MSI RTX Ventus 2X OC and I genuinely thought I would have had good fps in all my games. I use it and its basically no better than my previous graphics card, a GTX 1050. It might be better at handling SOME visually heavy games, like Rust and thats it. Warzone isn't very good with it and I did everything to try fix it, I asked reddit and other stuff and yet nothing fixed it. Heres a list of things I did : 1. Optimize pc 2. Reset the whole PC to get rid of old drivers. 3. Delete old graphics drivers and got the most recent ones. 4. I got new memory (1333mHz core on a DDR4 2666 RAM stick, dual channel) I seem to only get on CSGO 141 fps on the maxed settings, and on my 1050 270 fps. Valorant also manages to get 270 fps comparing that to my 1050 250 fps. Rust also somehow only gets to 60 or 70 fps when my 1050 got like 130? Its so crazy and I have no idea. I could even show you all my HWINFO stuff. Could you give me tips on trying to fix it, I don't want to buy a new one since I don't have the money. I don't know if I even put it in the wrong place, like putting the PCIE cable somewhere wrong or something. I really need help. Here's my specs though : 1. MSI H310M PRO-VDH PLUS (MS-7C09) 2. Intel I5-9400F (6 Cores Used) 3. Corsair CMV16GX4M1A2666C18 4. MSI RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X OC 5. PATRIOT P210 1TB Heres photos of all the stuff on HWINFO, please check if it should be correct since I don't know what a lot of it is.

Purchased a new laptop from Walmart in December of 2022 and when I brought it home it started up and I chose Windows 11 for my install. Since then it takes around 5-10 minutes for startup and has complete throttling of the CPU 80% of the time, even opening things like file explorer or device manager. I bought this laptop mainly because of a price deal of around $289USD and the fact it was ryzen, maybe that was a mistake. Laptop: HP -AMD Ryzen 3 - 128GB SSD - 2400 MHz - 4GB DDR4 Model 14-fq0033dx I have already tried some online solutions, disabling superfetch, adjusted power settings, turn off start up apps, and other various things found when googling "New windows 11 slow" There is a singular app (Cricut) and 2 photos (for background display) on the laptop other than normal out of box bloatware (which I've deleted a lot of those). Even before downloading those apps, the PC has ran slow(regular updates ran for it as well). If anyone has any ideas on how to actually solve this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. (If more diagnostics need ran, I am halfway tech savvy and can run anything for more information)

Hello there, I really want to ask for an advise from more experienced users than myself abot L2TP internet speed. So I bought NetGear AX1800 RAX20 router (latest firmware already installed) and it seemed to work fine by delivering 100mb/s stable connection. However after I bought new xbox console I noticed that I am always getting disconnected from online gaming even though everything is connected directly by internet wires. After discussing this issue with my ISP I've been told that I need a vpn connection using L2TP which they can provide me with. After entering all the credentials in my router I got VPN L2TP connection and my console started to work just fine. However I didnt check my internet speed at that same moment. Lately I've noticed my internet speed is limited to 60mb/s while using VPN which is almost 50% less the amount I am paying for. If I turn L2TP option off - my speed comes to normal 100mb/s. As a solution my ISP offered me to try their own router (Mikrotik hap-lite 7442a-94125ND) which is significantly smaller and, on paper, less powerful. BUT using this router with L2TP my connection is basically 100mb/s. ISP explained to me that my routers CPU is not powerful enought to encrypt all the data so it limits the bandwidth. Another solution would be to turn L2TP encryption off, but I did not find this option in my router setting. Mikrotik router seems to handle this without any problem for some reason and I get 100mb/s stable connection. So the main question: is my NetGear router so bad (even though it costs 3 times as much) that it can not deliver 100mb/s bandwidth with L2TP connection or am I missing something? I would like to keep my NetGear router because it has so many features and controlling it with an app sometimes is really usefull, but this 60mb/s limitation really forces me to take Mikrotik router instead.

I run Windows 11 on an Intel i9 9900K All core 5Ghz>2080 ti>16GB 3200Mhz DDR 4 ram>M.2 SSD system. I keep windows up to date. However a little while ago I got in on Windows insider. Being somewhat tech savvy this was a fun and interesting time, however the constant updates took their toll and I eventually opted out. I unsubscribed and turned on the off-ramp wait. That offramp came and went more than once. Not to mention that even though it was still "updating", it wasn't updating to the latest major builds now that I was opted out. So after months I finally bit the bullet and did a clean install of windows 11. I went through, got the same programs and games installed, updated windows, got the major drivers updated and well... Now the time it takes to go from login to 100% ready to use is over double what it was before I did a clean install. I'm running the exact same programs as before on startup, no differences there. I also re-downloaded WinAero Tweak and went through a few options there to take care of Cortana and windows spying. However that didn't really help. I've also noticed that programs are taking longer to load as well. So much so I checked my BIOS to make sure it was still set to all core 5.0Ghz and yea nothing changed there. So what happened? With a clean install and update it should be running the same if not slightly faster. And yet it's lost it's snappiness in all regards, even web pages are a little sluggish o.0 Here's a couple snapshots of my startup items:

Hello. I have a problem with my pc. I'm pretty sure it boils down to memory though but that's all I could figure out. So.. The problem is when I play a game, like Diablo IV, I like to ''watch'' movies or tv-shows (streaming on firefox browser on my second monitor) which takes up about 2gigs of my memory out of 16gigs total (2x8GB DDR4 3000mhz). As soon as I open up my game, let's use Diablo IV in this case, Diablo lags like crazy, then it runs smooth, then huuuuge lag spikes etc etc. Diablo IV uses around 5,5gigs of memory. I went to task manager and added all the memory usage together and under load it uses around 8gigs. On my monitoring software (NZXT CAM and task manager as well) I can see it says I use 94% of my memory when Diablo IV is running and I'm streaming movies/tv-shows. And that's where I get confused because I have 16GB of memory so why it caps at 8GB only is weird to me. It's not only happening with Diablo but pretty much every game I play. Multitasking is almost impossible. ALT-TAB'ing takes forever, can't browse the internet unless I have 5 minutes each time I want to google something and go to a new page etc etc. I'm on Win11 Pro (64-bit) Windows and CPU-Z both detects 16gigs of memory. So does anyone have any idea what's happening? faulty memory stick or something else?

Hi everyone, I hope you're fine Recently I noticed that my pc take too much time to load windows, here's a video to show you what I mean. This is weird because I upgraded to a Samsung 980 Pro 2TO (the newer version, without that bug thing), copy and paste speeds are amazing in windows. I disabled all the unnecessary apps on start up. Fast Startup is also disabled. I also tried to disconnect every peripheral but nothing changed. I also checked for boot order and it was my Samsung. Here's my config: CPU: Amd 3950x Mobo: Asus Tuf x570 gaming GPU: MSI 4090 Gaming Trio NVME: Samsung Pro 980 2TO PSU: MPG A1000G Sound card: FocUSrite Scarlett Solo 3Rd Gen From what you're seeing in the video, what could it be? We can agree that the bios loads fast but loading windows is slow right? Thanks! IMG_1570.MOV

Hi everyone, this is a continuation from another thread where I figured out that the problem isn't windows related but GPU driver, here's the first thread: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1518959-bios-load-fast-rtx-4090-driver-load-is-very-slow-black-screen-then-w10-appears-before-password/#comment-16034102 One day I noticed that my pc started to boot slower than usual, before it was 40 seconds (and windows is loaded) but now, it takes up to 1 minute and 7 seconds to load windows, after loading bios it stays black, so I thought maybe it's a gpu driver issue. With DDU I removed it (to upgrade to a newer one) and windows loaded after only 30 seconds (gpu driverless), so defenately a gpu driver issue. When I installed the newer driver it was back to 1m and 7 seconds (before it was only 40 seconds). I always download gpu drivers manually, not with geforce experience. Here's my pc config: CPU: Amd 3950x Mobo: Asus Tuf x570 gaming GPU: MSI 4090 Gaming Trio NVME: Samsung Pro 980 2TO PSU: MPG A1000G Sound card: FocUSrite Scarlett Solo 3Rd Gen EDIT: Fast Startup is disabled, I removed all the usb connected except the mouse and keyboard, I even removed some DP and HDMI from the gpu, nothing changed. Any idea what it could be? Does anyone saw something similar? and please, I know that a fresh windows install could correct this, but I would like to avoid deleting/reinstalling all my programs and android parameters, I would like to troubleshoot and understand the problem. Thanks everyone Final EDIT: I found the solution!

Hi, So I’ve recently bought power line extender - the tp-link TL-PA8010P Kit to be exact. When connecting them both and setting them up correctly, I’m able to get a connection in the room that I want through the electrical wiring. When doing an internet speed test, it says 90Mbps download and 45Mbps upload (I live in the countryside). However, when actually downloading or uploading something, it’s a lot slower than what the speed test said - average download 2Mbps, max is 8Mbps; upload is even slower. When I check the networking tab of task manager, it’s displaying really high speeds - close to what my main router is. What could be the issue? I’ve disconnected everything from the internet, bar my pc (connected to the powerline hub via Ethernet), and am still getting slow speeds. Note: When connected directly to my router, my speeds are close to what the speed test says. Any help would be greatly appreciate, Cheers!

i got this laptop about 5 months ago as a replacement last pc.for life reasons i needed a laptop that could replace the power of my tower. it ran everything fine at first but has just gotten progressively slower now to a point where almost no games or software in general run decently at all. ive tried all sorts of fixes but have gotten no where. rust is like the game i use often to benchmark my systems, and its gone from handling max settings at like 90+ fps to hardly holding 30fps absolute minimum settings. it also now, like everything else, stutters constantly. i dont think its because of ram either since even though rust does ask for 10gbs min a friend of mine runs just fine with a 8gb system. i guess really what im wondering now after explaining all of this is; am i left with having to go to windows 10, maybe also using atlasos or something also. i cant leave windows, sadly, too much of my workflow requires windows still. i hate to ask for help, but im really just at the end of my rope now. if this was a pointless thread lmk ill just take it down, just thought that i should ask before beginning my process of swapping OSs a bunch since thatll basically stop me from using the pc for awhile. here are my current specs; CPU: Intel Core i7-12700H GPU#1: NVidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop (GA104M) MOBO: Gigabyte Aorus 17 XE5 (thats all it says in hwinfo) PSU: 240W (i think? thats what i read on the output for the charger) RAM: 8(x2) DDR5-4800 SDRAM @2400MHz SSD: Gigabyte AG470S1TB-SI B10 (1tb nvme)

I live in Indonesia, it has one of the slowest connection of internet than most countries. I usually get 200 kb - 5 mb/s , I'm not sure whether buying another router is really going to change anything. Is there anyone else in my country that could recommend a good router with 50 mb/s or more? or is it not possible for my country? the photo below doesn't reflect when i actually download, i usually watch youtube on 480p and when I'm downloading i either get 200 kb/s - 2 mb/s

Hi, I bought a new Samsung 980 Pro 2 Tb (last firmware), I dont know why the speed transfer (copy paste) is so wierd, like going from 200 Ko/s to 2.5Gb/s, as you can see, most of the time it's between 10 and 15 Mo/s, not overheating (55°). This is driving me crasy. Look at those Read and Write speeds from Samsung Magician (Capture 2) My second NVME is a Corsair MP600 1 Tb, I did set it to GEN 3 in the bios, second slot on mobo. Updated processor chipset on mobo. Downloaded Samsung Magician, driver are up to date (about the Samsung nvme's failing). Here's my pc parts: 3950x Asus Tuf X570 MSI Rtx 4090 Gaming Trio Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2To + Corsair MP600 1To + Seagate Barracuda 2To + Western Digital 8 To PSU: MSI 1000W Any idea of what's happening? I really need to fix this, so much work to do. Sorry If i missed something, it's been 24h and still awake, my brain is not working correctly, i'm going to sleep now 'ill be back tomorrow.

Hi guy's, so i got the problem that since yesterday my sound started laging when i download someting over steam and the download speed is also only like 10% of my actual speed. Also when i try to watch a video on youtube while downloadting something on steam the video starts laging so it's more like the whole pc starts slowing down when downloading. I had this promlem once but just reinstalled windows since i wasn't able to finde anything about the problem and asumed it was caused by an update, but i just blocked updates now so that can't be it. Im in windows 10 with a Ryzen 3700X A MSI RTX 3080 Suprim X. hope someone can help since i don't whana reinstall windows again.
