Hi all- I am looking to get a new 4U server case for a NAS I am planning to build. I want the case to last a long time and go through many internal component changes without issues. I do not really need the hot-swap bays, but they are nice. I need something that is sort of affordable. The Sliger case is really pushing my budget for this once you factor in rails and Noctua fans. The three cases I am between are the Sliger CX4712, Rosewill RSV-L4412U, or RSV-L4500U. Does anyone have any input on this? I am open to buying used, but there are not very many used options on eBay at the moment that make sense for what you are paying.

Hi All I trying to find a good quality server case to move my server into as my current case is needing an upgrade along with the hardware in it. I have being looking at the Silverstone RM22-312 linked, I have seen some reviews that similar cases from other brands use cheaper metals and can bend easy or have other quality problems. My biggest concern with the Silverstone case is the backplane around how long it would hold up and the quality of it. If anyone has any good recommendations please let me know, keep in mind I'm not looking for links from Dell or HP I want to DIY my server. The things I'm looking for, Rack mountable, fit ATX or E-ATX can be bigger but not a non-standard like some Supermicro servers use, the Silverstone case I have linked is a 12 drive bay. 12 or 16 bays would be good, I don't care as much about the power supply standard ATX would be good but in servers I no that's not super common. The biggest problem I face, I live in Australia so if its listed on a retail site or store in US or elsewhere it may be hard or impossible to get here, but send it over I'm happy to try and find it or try and import it. Thanks in advanced for you're recommendations.

Hello everyone! So I have bought this Inter-Tech 4U 4410 case for my home server. It has 3 hot-swappable fans, which are powered via this Molex connector. Next to the Molex connector is a strange 6-pin connector that I have never seen before. Do you know what this connector is and how it works? I saw this video where Intermit.Tech also got an Inter-Tech server case, but in his, the connector is a normal 4-pin fan header. My goal is to connect the 3 fans via this connector to the mainboard using F2F cable and adjust the speed via PWM. Is it possible to do this with this 6-pin connector or is this connector for something else? Would be very thankful if you could help me out!

hi guys. just wanted the video Linus did on his server case for his personal rig and got me wondering if any of you guys would do some like that or have you? i kind of like the idea of it but for me i like being able to look at my computers but having all your computers in a server rack might be helpful in saving space and having it all in the one spot.

Hey so I plan to build a really cheapo server to run sap and stuff and so far I've picked out a mobo, cpu, ram, and a rack. I am having a difficult time finding a chassis to store it all tho. I want to keep the build under $500 (US) and so far everything comes out to about $250 but I want to have maximum spending for storage. Btw I'm using openstack to run it all since I'm planning to have many instances and any recommendations for a PSU would b greatly appreciated. These are my current parts: Mobo: supermicro x8dte-f Cpu: xeon e5620 (2 of these obviously) Ram: 32gb of Kingston ecc registered memory

I have a home server/NAS type computer I’ve been running for a while now and I have just been using an old crappy computer case from years ago. That old case can hold a max of six 3.5” hard drives. I have also been hiding it in a spare bedroom (old fans make a lot of noise). Now that bedroom has been annexed by my wife and my old noisy NAS computer must be moved into my home office with me… making noise… I have come to a compromise with the wife that if she gets to have the spare bedroom I get to upgrade the NAS computer. Basically, I am just going to put it in a new case with some new Noctua fans. I figure if I am going to do this I should try and future proof the case as much as possible while still meeting my current needs. Needs: 1 Quiet (Noctua should help with that) 2 As many 3.5” drive bays as possible so I can add more drives later as our needs grow 3 Not rack mounted 4 Fan filters are nice 5 At least 1 optical drive bay The case that is currently catching my eye is the: Cooler Master Cosmos II - Ultra Tower Computer Case with Aluminum and Steel Body (RC-1200-KKN1) I don’t need the side glass of the later generations of that case and I would rather have the side ventilation anyway. Plus, I really don’t need/want any RGB but not a deal breaker if it does have RGB. Features I like about the Cosmos II 1 Easy open side doors 2 Easy to remove side doors 3 Lots of ventilation 4 Big easy to grab carrying handles 5 Fan filters 6 13 drive bays (2 are hot swap… very nice) 7 Tool less drive cages 8 Will take just about any motherboard I can throw at it The reason I am here is I wanted to know if anyone knows of a similar case that might be a little more modern and maybe has some nicer features for what I am trying to do. I have done some looking around myself, but I always find myself thinking the Cosmos II is better. Does anyone know of a better case for my use case?

I have a old 1U Super Micro server, | https://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherboard/Opteron8000/MCP55/H8QMi-2.cfm | It is too loud for me to run in my apartment and I need to find a new case. 16.4" x 13" (41.7cm x 33.0cm) The form factor is proprietary and I can't seem to find any 4U server case that could fit this darn thing. I am willing to do some light fabrication to make it mountable or fit. EATX is 12" x 13" (30.5 cm x 33 cm) which is close but I just can't find a case that, by the photo at least, this thing could even theoretically fit. If anyone can think of a model or brand that might fit this thing I'd thank you for letting me know.

Before the virus I bought a case at Free Geek that I believe is ATX 4U server rack for $50. Probably use as a Audio Work Station. I would like to also use it for a gaming computer that makes minimum requirements for high settings for Anno 1800. And reduce the power usage when playing My Little Karaoke which takes minimal resources. I like a confirmation what ATX board will fit with the pins and any suggestions for best bang for my buck. I have no problems using older, parts. And don't need the fancy lights. Anon 1800 minimum for high setting OS: Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10(64-bit versions only) Processor: Intel i5 4690k @ 3.5 GHz, AMD Ryzen 5 1500X @ 3.5 GHz Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4 GB of VRAM) or AMD Radeon R9 290X (4 GB of VRAM) *,** DirectX: DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 Memory: 8 GB RAM

Hi there all LTT folks. This is my first ever post so I will introduce myself a little. I'm Robbin, 27 years old from Amsterdam. I'm a single geek living on my own on a floor I build in a warehouse that doubles as a man-cave (with beer-tap and pool-table) Currently I'm doing multiple projects at the same time such as: -Having awaken a Skulltrail motherboard from the dead (dead CPU2 socket , pin was broken off) which serves as my main PC (https://valid.x86.fr/mt0ayb) -Setting up two HP XW8400 workstations as networked fileservers -Building my own speaker system from scratch, as well as the amplifiers and modifying behringer DCX2496 crossovers -Just finished upgrading my network tot Gigabit to be able to handle the 500Mbit internet connection -Modifiying my car (Peugeot 106 GTi) for more performance (upgrading undercarriege, engine components etc) as well as my motorcycle (Gilera Runner VXR) -Starting a MAME-like PC build from scratch with an old 720p 50" pioneer plasma screen I traded in. I've set up my speaker amplifiers in such a way that they have rack-mount cases. In the home-theater I want to have a rack-mount case to house all the amplifiers and crossovers. For the fileserver PC's I also want to have them rack-mounted because I'd like to have a little server-room of my own. They currently are HPXW8400 workstations, and I'd like to build them into server-style cases. I saw the video "Watercooled, Overclocked SERVER Build!" and now I'd like to find out what are the types of routers or old servers that go for so little money that they are cheaper than actually buing a new server case. So if you know the right models to look for, I'd be glad to hear. Thanks a lot for making my own server-rack possible! Greetings from Amsterdam!

I needs suggestions for a new case. I am looking for a new case to build a new NAS in. I am in need of case that fits in 2u rack space, with 8 hot swap bays, preferably with a locking door with filters. The door is not needed for security it is for a home unit. It also needs to be able to handle a full ATX motherboard and the option for a redundant hot swap power suppley would be nice but also not necessary.Rack depth no issue in my setup, would also like the case to have mid mounted 80mm fans. Here's the part that makes finding this difficult... $200 to $300 (U.S.) is where I'd like to keep the price. NO NORCO PRODUCTS!!!! Have had nothing but trouble with their backplanes working properly. Anyone have any suggestions they have experience with. Tall order and I may be looking for a unicorn, I know.

Hey guys. I was over at my aunts place on Sunday for Easter (Greek Orthodox, Χριστος Ανεστη!) and my cousin was there. He hasn't lived there for a long time but he still uses his room and he mentioned getting rid of a whole bunch of stuff including "the old server case". I knew exactly what he was talking about and asked him how much he wanted. Turns out he didn't want any money for it so I took it home. Now that I have the case I'm thinking of building a server for file/program backup. Anyway. This case has no manufacturers markings on it. It says "made it China" on a sticker at the back and it has 2 80mm fans at the rear of the case that are made by Sunon. It has 4 wheels and holes for what I'm guessing are for rubber feet. The power button, reset and alarm buttons are all locked behind the front bezel. The whole drive system is built on rails that are wider than standard 5.25" bays so you can put pretty much whatever you want. The case is a nice thick weighty steel throughout with very few plastics. A hint at how old this case is. The left panel (when looking straight at the case) has a "general layout diagram" of an ASUS P4C800 which is what my cousin must have put in the case. Anyway, I just wanted to know if someone recognizes this case. P.S Ignore the salt

Do I need a special server power supply or can I throw in a regular modular power supply from Corsair or something Also, what rack mount case do I need to slot this in to some kind of shelf? Do I need special rails or other mounting hardware? I am a super noob when it comes to servers, and I want to get one going with a few chassis (thinking of another gaming server, router, website host, NAS, security, etc.) If anyone can help me that would be great! Thanks!
