I have a 6 year-old Dell desktop with a 1070 GPU. I have noticed frequent screen tearing for the last few months. There were also a few times that the system could not detect the GPU after booting up (using igpu instead) and sudden blue screens (something about "video", but do not remember the exact error code). I checked on the error code briefly and I remember the online information pointed toward the problem with the 1070. Also, there is no tearing problem when the monitors are connected to the onboard video output, even with the 1070 installed. After all, I ended up replacing the 1070 with a 4060 last week. However, there is still the same problem with the tearing from the 4060 video output. The only difference is that the height of where the tearing usually appears on the screen seems to be different. I tried some suggestions from the internet by changing the setting in the Nvidia control panel (both before and after replacing the 1070), but nothing has worked so far. Does anyone have a clue about which part of my PC might be causing the issue? 1070? Motherboard? Faulty 4060? PCIE socket? Or could this be the result of some setting that was changed for some reason? Really appreciate it if you could provide some advice on what to do.

I have an LG 4k monitor that caps at 60hz with and Nvidia rtx 4070. I have tried everything I can find... I have set my games to match the native resolution and refresh rate, I have tried v-sync both on and off, and I have tried g-sync. I'm still experiencing screen tearing and I'm not sure how to fix it. What else am I missing?

So I have a GALAX GTX3070 in my PC, it's giving me this weird vertical green line occasionally along with screen tearing, only on the top portion of my screen. I've done the below diagnostic tests so far and I simply cannot workout why this is occurring... Hoping someone else has solutions/ideas for me? Replaced display cable Updated drivers Deleted drivers and re-installed Different monitor Re-seated GPU, RAM, CPU and all power cables Toggled G-Sync & V-Sync on/off Toggled HDR on/off (With HDR off, the green line is almost completely gone, however screen tearing still occurs constantly) Wipe all drives and fresh windows install Note: When taking screenshots, no defects are present. The green line is only really present when looking at a white backdrop (as you'll see in photo) and the screen tearing is only on the very top of the screen, and only really present in Battlefield 5, don't see it much in many other games. Hello,How do i stop screen tearing on my NVIDIA gt 1030? I tried enabling V-Sync in the options but i has no effect when i do a screen tearing test

So for the past month I have had really bad screen tearing on Valorant. I tried V sync in game but then everything is floaty and delayed. I turned it off and used freesync on the AMD software. Still doesn’t fix it. Yes I have the proper refresh rate set to my monitor. Other games I tried are minecraft and Battlefield BC 2 and still the same issue while full screened. I fully cleaned the inside of my PC of dust before making this post. my specs: • Sapphire nitro+ rx 5700 xt • Ryzen 7 3700X • MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI • G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32GB (2x16) DDR4 3200Mhz

I play on an Oculus Rift S and a Quest 2, and I've always had this problem, no matter what I do, no matter what headset, it won't stop. I've tried to do things in Oculus's debug tool, Steam's VR settings, and even the Nvidia control panel. Every solution I've heard or seen, I've tried, nothing works. It screens tears constantly and lags, all the while the FPS drops down considerably low. If anyone has anything I can try, it would be of great help. My PC specs are: RTX 2080 16BG Ram SSD 1TB Storage I7-8700k

To start off. These are my specs aswell as their score on userbenchmark.com: UserBenchmarks: Game 226%, Desk 107%, Work 224% CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X - 105.5% GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 - 219.5% SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 120GB - 83.4% SSD: Kingston SA2000M81000G 1TB - 245.9% HDD: Seagate Barracuda 4TB (2017) - 85% RAM: Corsair CMW16GX4M2Z3600C18 2x8GB - 96.4% MBD: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING PSU: ASUS ROG Strix 850 80+ GOLD Monitor: Asus ROG Strix XG279Q (G-Sync COMPATIBLE) 1440p 144hz I have a relatively new build (~2 months) that has been working really good for the majority of the time. However, the last couple of days things have changed... Games that have been running super smooth before are now running.. not super smooth. I am experiencing screen tearing and random FPS drops/stuttering and even if it says i have 144 FPS in a game all the time it certainly doesnt look or feel like it. Things i have tried: Clean install of windows and wiping all drives Playing old NVIDIA drivers Re-Installing the latest NVIDIA drivers Making sure i'm up to date in windows V-Sync ON V-Sync OFF Capping the FPS to match my monitor's refresh rate Capping the FPS to 2-3 under my monitors refresh rate (helped a little bit but not alot) Turning on G-sync on NVIDIA Control Panel As nothing of the above helped i am seeking help on here. To give you more information i played a game of warzone and ran temps etc. Both CPU and GPU temps were running at around 65 Celcius at high settings 1440p with v-sync off and the fps capped at 144. As expected i was still experiencing tearing and the feeling of the game not running as smooth as before. i'll attach the full HWMonitor report if anyone wants to read it.HWMonitor.txt These issues happen on titles like Warzone, Forza Horizon 4 and GTA V. All of which were running flawlessly before. I am out of ideas and it's getting frustrating, i want my old (new) PC back All help is much appreciated!

So, I got Control and wanted to play it, but ran into some issues. First of all, V-sync seems to freak out, at some specific spots (for example near the flags in the lobby and in some of the office rooms) I'm experiencing fps drops, it just suddenly goes from 75 to 35-37. There is quite a lot of those spots even at a starting location, so fps is constantly jumping around, which is annoying to me. It's not performance related because gpu usage drops as well from 98% to 50-60%. If V-sync is disabled this doesn't happen. It also stops happening if I pick the lowest graphic preset, but I didn't want to settle on that, since according to benchmarks my PC should have no problem running Control at medium-high settings (My specs are GTX 1650 Super and Ryzen 5 2600). So I disabled ingame V-sync and enabled Nvidia G-sync (I have a G-sync compatible monitor). This eliminated fps drops and appeared to fix screen tearing at first (which was atrocious without G-sync), but it came back several minutes later when I got into another area. I tried turning G-sync off and on again, fiddled with the settings, and it seems that this issue is related to fps as well. When fps was around 60-70 (which it is most of the time on 1080p high settings), everything was fine and smooth, but the moment it rose above 80 screen tearing was back. And again, there are several of such spots even in a starting location, so I wouldn't be free from screen tearing for more than a couple of minutes at a time. My question is, what is all that caused by and can I do anything about this? Could it be some setting I should (or shouldn't) have enabled? Can I get rid of both performance drops and screen tearing?

I tried Vsync, freesync, scanline sync, capping fps, reinstalling the game, reinstalling GPU driver ( using DDU), disabling windows game mode and full-screen optimisation. but nothing is helping, tear remains. my GPU is 1650 super and the monitor is LG22mk430h 75Hz. I tried the above-mentioned sync technology individually and with enabling multiple at the same time, but not helping. Scanline sync had better results in all of them but as GPU usage is always around 95ish and scanline sync needs low to medium GPU usage so it isn't consistent. with freesync and capped fps at 70, it shows micro tear, and it's the best result I get apart from scanline sync,. I played BF1 story mode and only enabling Vsync worked there. another thing, I played warzone 4 months earlier then it had no issue( then I used to play with vsync+freesync and it worked smoothly. I learned recently that vsync is bad for multiplayer) I took a break from gaming for the last 4 months, in this time I uninstalled warzone with battlenet and had to reinstall windows due to windows crash. Yes, switching to a GSync monitor would resolve this issue but in my country ( Bangladesh), where 230USD monitor is sold at 400USD, I can't switch for couple of years at least.

Hi Everyone! Never posted on a forum like this before but maybe you will have some suggestions in resolving this small issue or maybe you have some suggestions. Long story short, I was able to build a small machine recently - after putting together some things I had around and looking on eBay & Amazon for deals. I managed to put together something like this (Keeping in mind cost and minimum effort): i7 3770s with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition ASUS P8Z77-V Pro 16GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 1600 (2x 8GB) Manli Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB DDR6 WD Green 120GB SSD - Boot & Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512GB storage EVGA 600 W1 Case with 3 fans from Corsair (SPEC-05) Monitor is a Samsung LS32R75 Space Monitor 4k 60Hz (Monitor suits me because I use it also for some content creation) I have additional 16GB ram coming, because I found a set exactly like mine for a very cheap price as well, so waiting for that. The PC runs great. I was able to launch all games mostly in Ultra at 1080p or some even in 1440p - which is great! I have one issue though. When testing with Warzone, I encountered some Screen Tearing issues. FPS is usually above 70 (Even with RTX on and all set to High settings - DLSS causes even more issues with no visible improvement), but even if I play around with custom frame rates, V-Sync and any settings, the tearing always is there. The funny part is, the tearing mostly appears to involve lower settings and lower resolution. And to be honest, I have also a Series X and Warzone looks great on both platforms, with the difference being the screen tearing on PC. I tried settings in the Nvidia control Panel (following multiple YT videos etc.) tried testing the GPU and CPU temps (CPU never goes above 56 degrees and GPU is usually at about 68-69 degrees - blower style). Obviously the CPU is a 3rd gen s version but it boosts exactly the same as the k one. I am not looking for miracles here and I obviously do not want to get a new monitor, since it is perfect for my mixed usage. I would like maybe see any advice you may have around getting a bit more out of it? All drivers updated to newest ones. Again, not an expert so please have mercy haha!

Screentearing in games and video (yt, netflix etc)
KillingForMoney posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hey, I have this problem with screen tearing and bad performance in games and video. I have a RTX2080 paired with ROG PG27V and 10700K cpu with 32GB of ram. Screen tearing is with everything that moves. Its so bad that text that move, like on the bottom of news, is illegible. Bad performance: As an example in csgo, i only get around 130 fps with any settings. Low or high. -
Hello! Recently, I decided that as a reward to myself for surviving college, I'd treat myself to an RTX 4090 that I managed to snag at MSRP, as my eight year old GTX Titan X was really showing it's age on modern games. For the most part, it has been smooth-ish sailing. However, I've noticed in the handful of games I've played since the installation, I've had some serious issues with screen tearing that even V-Sync wasn't fully fixing. After substantial time messing with settings, I've managed to *generally* fix it in most games, but it's still not perfect in some of them. However, today I began to notice tearing at the upper sections on my monitor while watching YouTube, and even when moving tabs around on my desktop. Almost appearing as though the top portion of the monitor is at a different refresh rate than the rest of it, especially when typing on a page located above the line. Naturally, I went and started poking around the Nvidia Control Panel, and found that my monitor's refresh rate had somehow changed from 144hz to 60hz. I went to correct it, only for my monitor to absolute crap the bed. ( A video of which will be attached.) I tried changing the refresh rate in the Window's setting as well, but got the same result. Now, no matter what I do, I am unable to change the refresh rate as anytime I do, the monitor just goes nuts. However, the weirdness didn't end there. I proceeded to open up the monitor's quick menu from the buttons physically located on it. ( I don't know the proper terms for it), only to see it state that the current refresh rate is 120hz, with no way to change it in that menu. (A picture of this menu will be attached, in case that helps somehow) I also dug around Asus's GPU Tweak III software that comes with this particular 4090, and couldn't find anything related to the refresh rate. I've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, messing around with G-Sync, and just about everything in-between. Alas, I'm at quite a loss. This has never been a problem for me before, so I'm afraid I'm rather ill-informed regarding screen tearing. I've tried to find solutions and the like online, but haven't been able to find anything that helps so far. Thus, I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand or point me in the right direction. I'd very much appreciate any and all help! Specs: OS: Windows 11 CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor RAM: 64GB DDR4-4800mhz GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 4090 Monitor: DELL S2716DG 2560x1440, 144Hz. I just built my PC Yesterday, and after about an hour of use, I began having display issues with my Sapphire RX 480. It first began when I downloaded Sapphire's TRIXX software and was messing with clock speeds. The screen began bugging out so i rebooted my PC. Now, when I boot up windows, the screen is glitching wherever I move my mouse. Its a bit like screen tearing but only on certain parts of the screen. Additionally, when I went into my bios and peeked around, It was telling me that my card was in a PCIE x16 slot running at x1. When I took out my GPU and reverted to HD 630 Integrated Graphics, everything worked as intended with no bugging. Here's a list of everything I know: - Screen glitches occur while posting in BIOS AND in windows. - Only occurs with my RX 480 (Integrated Graphics work as intended without issues) - x16 PCIE slot is running at x1 Speed Things I have done to fix the issue (without success) - Reinstalled latest drivers - Reverting all BIOS settings to Default - Switching from HDMI to DVI - Re-seating GPU - Uninstalling SAPPHIRE Trixx Software Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

So I have a 75hz monitor and i like having my fps locked to 75, but i dont like using v-sync as it causes input lag, so i use the Riva tuner statistics server thing that comes with msi afterburner to lock my fps, and it works fine in all games except black ops 3. my game locks to a perfect 75 fps and rarely drops below it yet there is a massive amount of screen tearing, even more then when my fps is uncapped, why is this?
-
Howdy, LTT community! Is screen tearing dependent on the type of video input cable used? ---or--- Is one cable better at mitigating screen tearing than another(all things held equal)? Also would screen tearing suffer from use of adapters (like from HDMI to Display port)? (Any data would be great to support claims) Thanks!

new to this whole gsync thing. just started using it..like a year after getting a gsync enabled monitor, so...just got outlast 2 last night. but i noticed screen tearing with gsync on. i had gsync set for fullscreen and windowed mode, game is in full screen mode. monitor's a predator x34 at 100hz with a titan x(maxwell). BUT when i turned on vsync+gync, there was no screen tearing and FPS were about the same-ish as with no vsync. i read that its better to off vsync while gsync is on but that gives me screen tearing. is there something that im doing wrong? not using any global settings in nvidia's control panel, it's all application controlled. havent tried any combination with gsync off though. I don't think i have any FPS problems as games run smoothly with high settings. just confused why there's screen tearing with gsync enabled.

Hello, I had to reset my PC yesterday because I had some big problems, after reinstalling the system I noticed that Firefox and Edge are screen tearing really bad. It's very extreme when I'm watching Youtube videos. I already searched for solutions, but not a single one of them helped. The graphics driver Is the newest one from NVIDIA. Probably usefull: Intel Core i7-6700K NVIDIA GeForce gtx 960 Asus Monitor with G-Sync (60hz) Sorry for my really bad english, i hope you can understand what I mean....

Laptop: Modified MSI GT70 0NE CPU: 3610qm running at 3.1 GPU: GTX 870M (Old gpu died) RAM: 16GB Drives: Dual 64gb SSD RAID0, 750gb 7200rpm HDD. OS: Win 10 In games i for the most part get screen tearing and i can't handle the input lag of Vsync. The tearing is always. ALWAYS Horizontal and only goes away when i have >110 FPS (Sometimes occours anyway.) I have the newest Driver and have tried other driver. The games i can think of in top of my head that has this issue is: Dota 2: Currently solved with Vsync and fps cap at 59 for reduced input lag. Battlefield 3. Solved by having the frame rated capped to 59. Vsync off! (It happens with framerate capped at 60 or above) CS GO: Only get slight tearing while looking at certain walls or objects that have vertical stripes going down (Can explain more if needed) (Happens with 200 fps) Black Ops 2: happens even up to 150 fps for some reason. Only solution is Vsync. Bioshock: Havn't tried much but vsync fixes. GTA 5: Some slight screen tearing but barely noticeable Here's some examples on games that are simular but don't have tearing: Paladins APB Reloaded Garry's mod SMITE tribes: Ascend WildStar Awesomenauts PayDay 2 Skyrim FarCry 3/4 Arma 3 and many more games Tried to record some examples but record software couln't pick up on the tearing. The tearing happen in varius different strange ways. For example: In battlefield it happens in the upper part of the screen, In dota 2 it happens mostly in the middle and in CS:GO it happens only while looking at certain things. Any ideas?

chrome Chrome hardware acceleration dilemma
Pokemoneuro posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Hi, I have recently updated to the Windows 10 Fall Update and an old problem got introduced yet again... Hardware acceleration in Chrome turned on will result in a black screen for a second or two when starting a video or going fullscreen with it. It doesn't happen every time, but it's really annoying. It happens excessively on the floatplane club as well. At least 2 black screens per video. So naturally, you would turn it off. However, that results in unbearable screen tearing on youtube videos (haven't checked other video sites, probably the same). It's so bad, barely watchable. I've tried everything from reinstalling the drivers (uninstalling them using DDU, restarting and installing them again and restarting) to messing with every little setting in the control panel that would make sense to change something, but no result. I just can't find the solution. -
Hello everyone, I am sorry to be bothering you with my problems. I searched for quite a bit but i couldn't find anything purely related to what i am experiencing, so this is why i am making this thread. What my problem is : There is quite a bit of screen-tearing on my new 144hz monitor. Moving my mouse in counterstrike, for example, feels butter-smooth, but when i slow down to moving my mouse a couple of cm at a time or moving in-game (aka objects on screen moving at a reasonably slow pace), i can see that there is quite a lot of screen tearing. So much so that i cannot play the game. The game feels choppy because when i move around, close by objects are clearly choppy due to screen tearing and it just feels unresponsive, having buttery-smooth camera movement from the mouse alongside a choppy world. What i have done to test this : I tested it around with different resolutions, different hadrware, different framerates, vsync on and off, different monitor settings, different games and compared it to a 60hz monitor. Since i mostly tested this in Counter-Strike, ill write what the results are, but i opened up dota 2 and it was kind of visible there too. I am getting 280-320fps in counter-strike and i've tried maxing it out to 60,120,144 via a console command, ive tried putting on vsync, i tried doing the same on my laptop and the tearing seems to be there all the time. I can't notice any bothersome tearing @ 60hz on my other monitor with 300fps, yet i can notice a fair bit of it on this new 144hz one. I recorded it slow mo (120fps) with my phone and it is tearing. I tried the HDMI port via my laptop and the DP port via my PC. What i am here for : I dont know how to even precisely explain what the problem is, but it seems to me that it is a monitor problem. How do i diagnose the problem and check if it is a game/hardware problem or if it is the monitor that is at fault? My GPU on my PC is totally dying, but its still pumping out these frames and i did test it with my laptop too.... You can watch the following videos i took with my phone (yes, i know that the quality is terrible, but you gotta do what you gotta do with what you have) : You can put them on 0.25x speed to see it better, i dont have these fancy phantom cameras with 10000fps ;( Thank you in advance for taking your time to read through my problem!

Hi everyone, so I have had this problem of my screen turning black every time a YouTube video loaded or certain elements on other websites and the solution to that turned out to be turning off hardware acceleration. So I turned it off, but it turned out that when I do that I get screen tearing. It's horizontal screen tearing and it's most noticeable in YouTube videos where things move up or down at a high speed, but it can also be seen when things go sideways, just not as much. It's painful to watch and the only way to fix it that I know of is to turn hardware acceleration on, which in turn introduces the horrible black screen problem... I have a GTX 970 Strix btw. I've already tried multiple ways to fix this, which have all failed: - Turned on VSync in NVIDIA settings - Turned it off again and on again and restarted the browser - Turned off smooth scrolling - Used D3DOverrider - Turned on Triple buffering in NVIDIA settings - Messed with framerates of my monitor - Reseated the HDMI cable in both the monitor and GPU - Downloaded the smoothscrolling addon - Update my graphics driver - Update my browser - Tried Edge and Firefox, but I don't wanna switch because I've used chrome for so long I don't wanna have to go and switch So much thanks in advance if anyone can help me.

Hey guys, I cant seem to get a solid answer on this. I know that when the fps is too high and the refresh rate can't keep up with it, images are half shown for a split second therefore causing screen tearing. Would you experience screen tearing if your fps is much lower than your refresh rate? I'm thinking of pairing a 1070 with a 144Hz or even 240Hz monitor and expect to play all kinds of games on close to max settings at average 100fps. Also smaller games including CS:GO at the expected 400fps. I've heard both yes and no to the question. Can someone settle this for me? I'm no expert with displays. Thank you!
