So I have an Asus Maximus VII Ranger and I want to get a new M.2 Samsung 960 Evo. The problem is that my motherboard has an M.2 port but its limited at 10Gbit/s. That means 960 Evo's potential is wasted on my motherboard. I thought about getting an M.2 to PCI 3.0 x4 adapter (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Lycom-DT-120-PCIe-Adapter-Support/dp/B00MYCQP38) to get the maximum speeds of the M.2. But I need to know if the M.2 will be bootable. Please help, I have been searching for days and found nothing. Thanks in advance!!

I was just looking this up and apparently my Ranger mobo has 2 x16 pcie slots however the second slot that it says is a x16 is actually a x8. I only care because I think my top slot died because when I have my 1080 in it I can't play a game for more than 10mins sometimes can't even launch the game without the system crashing. it isn''t a normal crash the displays go black and the gpu fans ramp up to full speed and I just have to press the power button to turn the system off. I have had the mobo for just about 2 years and the MSI 1080 for a year before that I had a 970 but this problem only started a few days ago. Back to what I started with though the crashing doesn't happen when the card is in the second PCIE slot so thats why I imagine the top one is dead. I reset my mobo bios and cleared cmos but it still is happening so I think my only option is to use the second slot or but a new mobo and might aswell get a 7th gen cpu since I havn't been able to with this mobo's socket. Here is a picture of why I think the second slot is a x8 one and not a x16. you can see on the board that it says x8 or does that x2 after that 8 mean it is infact 16 eventhough it doesnt have the full row of connectors like the top slot.

Hi all, Could I get your quick advice please? Its time to choose a motherboard, and i've had my eye on the Z170-AR from Asus for a while (I like the white look, and it seems to be a good performer for a good price). But just noticed that the ROG Ranger board is only about NZD30-40 more. In your opinion, does the price difference justify what extra features the Ranger provides?

What's good everyone. I am planning a new build for a friend, z170 as of right now, and I am having a hard time understanding the difference between the Maximus 8 Hero and the Ranger. As far as I can tell the only difference is 2 extra sata ports, but that can't be all is it? Please let me know if you know of any more differences as well as any experience with these two motherboards? P.S. I might just go with a Gigabyte Gaming 7 because it's for a friend who is super into audio production and that soundcore 3d would be a great thing to have because it's a quad core sound processor. But I would still love for feedback on the maximus motherboards. I am focus on those two because they are sub 200. Might grab a hero alpha or a formula, but planning between a hero or ranger as of right now. Thank you

MAXIMUS VII RANGER NVMe Compatibility
omgitsdefault posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello forum I need some help clarifying what kind of M.2 drives are compatible with my board, from what I can tell there are different types of M.2 PCI//SATA I'm not worried about getting the full speed but its just a step towards eliminating cables from my case. I was considering getting a Samsung 960/70 Evo? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-V-NAND-Express-Solid-State/dp/B07CGGNX7S/ref=pd_sbs_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07CGGNX7S&pd_rd_r=0c3ac01e-1acf-11e9-9f91-fdda01699348&pd_rd_w=ra2CD&pd_rd_wg=tY0e2&pf_rd_p=18edf98b-139a-41ee-bb40-d725dd59d1d3&pf_rd_r=FNDFFGCKKWBGB0Y2XMTC&psc=1&refRID=FNDFFGCKKWBGB0Y2XMTC Also using Bios Ver 2012 if thats an important factor. Can anyone shed some light? TIA. -
Hi guys, i have an Asus maximus vii Ranger with an i5 4690k in it. Although overclocked to 4.6 Ghz, and having disabled EPU in the Bios settings, in AI suite 3 it shows that it's still working and obviously it's hindering the CPU from performing to it's full potential. Is there something i can do in order to disables EPU? motherboard is update to the latest BIOS 3003. thanks, Razzu

Greetings! I'm a rotary wing aviator in the 160th SOAR detachment of the 75th Ranger Regiment Realism Unit. We're searching for dedicated and capable helicopter pilots to join our ranks, as well as infantrymen. We have a training program (RASP) for all interested applicants, whether they are new or experienced with the game. We perform operations and mission every Sunday afternoon/evening at 1600EST/2100GMT, based on real Ranger and Nighstalker tactics, using authentic equipment and weapons in small-scale combined arms missions. Our rotary wing detachment, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) utilizes the authentic SOAR airframes, such as the MH-60M Black Hawks, MELB MH-6 and AH-6 Little Birds. The fixed-wing equivalent, the 451st Air Expeditionary Wing (AEW) utilized A-10C Thunderbolt IIs, C-130J Hercules and F-16C Fighting Falcon. All of our servers are limited to first person, without crosshairs, using enhanced realism addons like ACE, TFAR and dozens of handpicked mods to better the immersion and authenticity of our mission experience. Hi everybody. Im planning to build this rig: CPU: i7 4790k (Not planning to overcklock too much) CPU cooler: Corsair hydro 80i Motherboard: Asus maximus VII ranger Graphics: MSI GTX 970 ( Not going to do SLI) HDD: WD 1To ( Maybe three more on the long run + one or two ssd) Ram: HyperX Fury 32 Go 1866 Others: Bitfenix Alchemy Led,... This rig will mostly be use for modeling, rendering, video/photo editing, unreal engine, gaming. In fact i initially choose the Cooler master V550 SM as psu. Now the retailer i will buy the psu from is selling the Cooler master V750 SM the same price as the V550 SM for some weeks. I would like to know if the V750 SM wattage will be too much for my rig (as i read somehere that according to the power a rig may need, too much wattage may not be a good thing). Thank you for your help.

Hello there, I know that there are tons of this subject here and in the net, but my specific problem, is that here in Tunisia, the coice is very limited (like very much!). I want to complete a build that I started, I already have an LDLC 500W 80+ bronze PSU (the same seasonic 520W 80+ bronze), and a Sapphire R9-280X toxic GPU. Now I am going to complete the RIG: I already chose the i7-4790K as my CPU (492$): here in Tunisia, technology will come to us very late, so waiting for broadwell or skylake, won't cut it, so I decided to spend money on a very good cpu that will last me a while (I will try a new RIG after 4 years). The problem is the mobo, I want a good mobo mainly for gaming, but I use Catia V5 for CAD and I intend to do some Overclocking in the near future (nothing very serious though). I need storage(M.2 and Sata Express are like unicorns here!) and quality. Here are the best choices in the local market: 1-MSI z97 gaming 5: 192$ 2-Asus maximus vii ranger: 238$ 3-MSI z97a gaming 7: 243$ 4-Asus Z97 Pro Gamer 223$ 5-Asrock z97 Extreme 4: 177$ (I don't like the blue theme because of my orange toxic ) Please bear in mind that we have no aftermarket service from the manufacturers, just the warranty from the seller, which is for only a year. The other issue is the Case, mine is a cheap one and dosent' fit an ATX mobo, my budget is 150$ we have here: 1-Cooler master cm 690 III (not windowed): 146$ 2-Cooler master Silencio 550: 150$ 3-Corsair Carbide Spec-1(ugly): 83$ 4-Corsair Carbide 100R: 84$ 5-Corsair Carbide 200R: 98$ 6-Corsair Carbide Spec-3: 103$ 7-Corsair Graphite 230T (The orange is exessive): 112$ 8-Cooler Master Silencio 550: 140$ And other cases but a bit out of my budget. I want cooling (may be I will add a watercooling kit next), looks, and relative silence. Sorry for the lenghty article, but I trust you guys, I've chosen my PSU and GPU due to your advices, and I will continue to trust you always. Thank you very much. P.S: The RAM will be an XPG 8Gb 1600MHz(86$), or Kingston Fury Red 8Gb 1866MHz (99$). The two sites in Tunisia: prices are in TND (Tunisia Dinar) http://www.tunisianet.com.tn/425-boitier-pour-pc-de-bureau http://www.sbsinformatique.com/tunisie-boitiers-pc

Hi guys, i have a cooler-master case which has a 2.5 inch hot swappable drive bay at the front. the only problem is that i don't know how to make use of this bay. the only way that this bay seems to work is if i restart my computer. i searched online, but could't seem to find a solution for my problem. my motherboard is the Asus maximus vii ranger, which if i am not mistaken has all the sata ports controlled by the Intel chip-set. any suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advanced for your help

I'm building a pc for myself and i love Asus motherboards, but i'm on a budget, so i would like to get Ranger? Is it a good motherboard?

So, I need some input from the community about this. I think I know why, but it's still good to have some other inputs. Overclocked it to 4.6ghz @1.250v at first then put it on Adaptive with an offset of + 0.050 as I've seen on Linus YouTube video. Specs is here: http://valid.canardpc.com/pth86l Now this is where I'm having a problem. I ran RealBench earlier to see how my system scores and how high the temp would be. To my surprise, it went high up to 74c using RealTemp on full load when it's on the H.264 Handbrake benchmark. http://i.imgur.com/jNKZfwz.jpg I might revert back to 4.4ghz where I'm just hitting 69c-70c at full load for hours using Handbrake. I'm using a Corsair H105. What I think the problem is that my room temps are high right now about 30c. What are your inputs? Thanks!

Hi Guys, I'm back and wanted to have some insights or rather I just want to ask a question regarding BCLK. I've read on another forum that overclocking it to 102 isn't that much different to its base clock 100. So I did and right now, I'm currently 4691ghz @1.2v+ on Adaptive. CPU-Z http://valid.canardpc.com/41dqxx So, I wanted to confirm if this is just fine or should I return it to base 100? GOOD LOWD, just checked my HWMonitor from CPUID and my Vcore is High as daaaaang. 1.8v or I could just be mistaken since the threads I've searched for Vcore on Google pointed out that it was too high.

Is there a way to turn off the glow near the sounf fx chip whilst the pc is powered down?

The ROG Maximus VII Ranger is already available in Singapore but i am really not sure if it is a good buy seams to me that the price difference of about 60 sgd so approximately $48 in US or $52 in Canada compared to the Maximus VII Hero really makes no difference. Do hope someone here can help which do you feel will be a better buy. The Maximus VII Ranger cost about 330 sgd
