When I run any games (f1 2020 and battlefront2) on my r9290 it either freezes intermittently or I get a black screen and the pc needs restarting. I manually increased the fan speed which was stopping it from crashing. Then I changed the thermal paste and removed dust etc. Now i can keep it from killing the pc, however it still freezes even on low settings. Is this just the card not being good enough or is their a fault? I have included a screenshot from Radeon software hopefully this is of use. any help would be really appreciated

I bought this pc on a budget with the goal of having a near silent pc that can run all the latest games while still remaining quiet enough for music production purposes. originally everything was fine with my first gcard (msi R9270) temps were high while gaming but not too high and it wasn't too loud. eventually my graphics card died due to a power supply issue and i was given a R9290 as a replacement model however this new card is way too hot, it runs at about 95c when gaming and starts to throttle after about 3 mins of gameplay and the fan speed and level is crazy it runs at 80-100% while gaming at a max of 2000rpm this is also creating very hot ambient temps inside my case and as a result heats up my cpu and ramps up the fan speed making it very loud. Is this normal for this card? Airflow in my case is decent with some seriously good fans but it doesnt seem like enough. The aircooler i am using is very good when it doesn't have the extra heat from the gpu and i dont really have anywhere to put an AIO watercooler in this case currently. I have two options right now a) Sell the graphics card for either an older cooler model or an nvidia equivalent with hopefully better cooling. b) Upgrade my case to the silencio 652 which has space for more fans, fan controller and water cooling compatibility if needed. putting in more fans just seems counter productive. It may seem like a silly question but would more fans cause my pc to get louder or would it cool it down to a level where the fans wont need to run as hard to cool the rig? Also how much would an AIO cooling block help this situation both in terms of heat and noise? I seem to get these problems even when the side panel is off, making me think a new case wouldn't help much? Any suggestions would help if what direction to go with this rig. My main goal is to have a quiet gaming pc, Temperatures Without graphics card CPU idle at 28-30c CPU Load - 50c With graphics card CPU idle 43c CPU load - 55-60c GPU Idle -61c GPU load 90-95c My Rig MSI Trin Frozr IV R9290 X2 4GBs Vengeance DDR3-1400 RAM Arctic i30 Cooler with Corsair sp120 quiet edition attached Asrock z87 pro4 Motherboard X3 Seagate SATA Drives CoolerMaster 550 Silencio Case 1x Jetflo 120 fan 2x 120mm intake fans - silencio 120fp - 800-1400rpm - coolmaster standard fan 800rpm Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHZ GPU EVGA 750 G2 PSU Case has 2x120mm intake fans and 1x120mm exhaust with no room for additional fans on case

So, I was able to solve my previous Thermal Throttling issue on my FX 8350 (ASRock Extreme3 R2.0) Hyper 212 EVO Cooler PC by capping my framerates at 60 FPS, adding 2 fans (One at the front suckin') and one at the back as an exhaust, and moving my PC out of the box that it was in However, now that I have a new 144 hz monitor, this isn't going to work out ,since I need 144 FPS in order for it to reach its full potential. I achieve this by capping my FPS at 201, however, I can play for about an hour - an hour and a half after shutting my PC off for a little while before then, thermal throttling kicks in again. Occurring once every minute or so. Changing my fan speeds do nothing (even with them all full on all the time, and with them working at full once it reaches 45 C, I still thermal throttle...) What else can I do? I must mention that my 212 EVO is in horizontally, with the fan at the top of the cooler blowing air over it, and this is not optimal for airflow, do you think reinstalling this could be the solution?

I have a PC I'm planning to upgrade. So far the CPU that came with it is AMD A-10 6800K MOBO: MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine) http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/Pegatron_Corporation/Pegatron_MSI_MS-7778_(Jasmine)/1381 http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03343058 RAM: 10GB So far what I bought is: PSU: CX600M GPU: Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC Would this work is I start assembling it? Main concern is I read that for PCI of the MOBO is One PCI Express x16 (Gen 2.0) would my GPU work? Thanks!

I am considering two graphics card options for the near future. I am going to shortly get my ASUS R9 270 2 GB back from an RMA, and I am wondering if I should add another for crossfire, or if I should sell it once I get it back and use some spare money I have lying around to get an R9 290. The main concern I have for the R9 270 crossfire is the VRAM issue. With the advent of GTA V's PC release, the increasing VRAM requirements for PC games are becoming more apparent, especially considering the amount of VRAM the current consoles have available. Even at 1080p, I'm not sure for how long 2 GB will be a viable option. Also, the amount of heat generated may be a problem. I don't particularly want to sacrifice the lovely quiet I now experience with my system at idle and the slight noise at load. I know it'd still be mostly quiet when idle, but adding 4 more fans will increase the noise slightly, even at low RPMs. Another little worry I have about fan curves is the one I have for my CPU fan. I did a stress test with Prime95 (with manual voltage, of course) and the temperatures skyrocketed to 100 C instantaneously before the fan could spin up, before stabilizing at a reasonable 70 C for all cores. It gave me a start, and while I don't experience similar things in real-world loads, it...scares me a bit. D: For these reasons, under most circumstances, choosing the R9 290 is an obvious choice. However, I am not particularly inclined to try to sell an R9 270 again, as it failed, a couple weeks ago, to sell on LTT's classified section. It's just another annoyance to deal with. I'd probably have a higher chance on eBay, but still. So, basically, should I deal with an annoyance in order to avoid a potential VRAM or heat issue or not? Please don't bring power consumption or crossfire scaling/support issues into the discussion, as, for the former, I am fairly confident a Corsair CX600 can power either setup, at least according to a review between the two options on this website. (I should have enough connectors too since my current R9 270 only uses one 6-pin.) The review also shows performance values that are very close. As for the scaling or support problems some moan about, it seems to me that it is generally considered a non-issue for most games, and the ones that do have problems usually don't need crossfire/SLI in the first place.

So I got a new GPU on Thursday (R9290) from ASUS got it installed with no problems. Installed drivers, no problems. Start up Arma 3, no problems. This was all on Thursday night by the way. Got home on Friday night and get on computer to play CSGO, this is where the problems start. CSGO doesnt work, it starts then disappears its not on the taskbar but it is in taskmanager. I went from an NVIDEA card to an AMD card so im new to AMD interfaces. Arma 3 does not work now, it just stops responding, Arma 2 OA doesnt work either, I'll put screenshots of all of the errors i get and the settings on AMD CCC at the end of this. But the problems I get with those 3 games (the only 3 i play on PC) are not the only ones i get, my monitor also "flashes." If anybody has any ideas I'm open to all, I've tried everything I can think of with my knowledge and nothing has worked so far. Bought two Msi R9 290 4gb twin frozr for Evolve, (knowing it was a Nvidia game) GTA 5, and hopefully Direct X 12. Mantle is indeed an awesome treat as well. BF4 is amazing on a 120hz monitor running at 125+ fps constantly. And within a few weeks I will be adding a whole watercool system for the i7 as well as EK waterblocks for the 290s. BUT Evolve has yet to add a definitive fps limiter, and of course the biggest fault is AMD for not releasing a driver for the last 79 days. The last beta driver was 101 days ago. Thank you very much. The bit coin mining craze hasn't helped us get better drivers? Come on.

Edit: It was recommended that I put the card into a different PCI slot, so I moved it from the x16 to the x4 slot and now the card is recognized again, but what does that mean about the PCIEX16 slot? Lets start at the beginning, I built his computer from NCIX's black friday sales. I got around to building it last monday night after I got a case. Since the time I first booted it (early tuesday (2nd) morning) the system has worked fine and dandy no problems whatsoever, until today that is. I booted it up this morning like normal, no problems, I went on to World of Tanks to look at the new events and sales and the garage ran smoothly, so far all good. Then I go leave for work around 1:30, I come home around 8:45, my brother tells me that when he tried to run WoT it could only run it at 10fps on min specs (this system had it running maxed settings at 60fps no problem previously) I turn LoL on and make a custom game, turn on MSI afterburner and discover that in game its only running at 30 fps, I go to MSI afterburner and discover that the top graph being shown is for GPU2 which is the intel onboard graphics, I scroll further down and find out that GPU1 core clocks are running at 0mhz. memory clock is running at 0, memory usage is running at 0. I install gpu-z 0.8.0 (i believe thats the newest version) and it corroborates this information, it also adds that GPU usage is also at 0. On another note, the gpu fans still spin, and I still get throughput to the monitor so I can still use the computer, just not play games. Help I have no idea what happened, don't know what the problem is, and don't know how to fix this. I was proud of the fact I got this machine of mine running on its first try with only a LTT build guide video for help, this is my first ever build and now I'm disappointed and have no idea what to do. This wasn't the way I wanted to spend my evening after work... Let me know if I need to add any more info. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3Oiwm I plan on doing this build within the next month or two and would like it to be able to play 4k on medium-high settings. I plan on buying a 4k monitor once non TN panels drop to around $600. Think it will acomplish this? Suggestions? All I have now is a 1080p screen and this will obviously be overkill for that.

Should I go with build A- http://pcpartpicker.com/user/lcater95/saved/4MBi -4770k -R9280X or B- http://pcpartpicker.com/user/lcater95/saved/4MBr -4670k -R9290 This will be a purely gaming build. Normally I would choose option B but I keep hearing people say that games will soon start to utilize 8 cores because PS4 and Xbone do. I'm 1080p now but will crossfire and go 4k when it's ready. Will two 280Xs be able to accomplish this? PS: If you can recommend a better Z97 mobo for the price or less that would be great.

So I recently built my own PC and made the mistake of connecting my monitor to my mobo right off the bat. I haven't realized this since now, after I realized I had been using the on board graphics card. So I immediately plugged my HDMI cable into my Asus R9 290 and got no signal. Any ideas?

Hello, I recently completed a build Project BLU V in which I used two reference R9 290's from sapphire overclocked and watercooled, after completing the build, naturally I proceeded to benchmark the system, everything went flawlessly until I got to 3D Mark. 3D Mark ran and bench'd no issues until I got to test out different overclocks, funnily I was getting very odd results, it seems that the R9 290 likes to play at certain clocks and once you go over those clocks the performance starts to degrade. For example: @Stock 947 by 1250 Firestrike X8031 @OC 1100 by 1300 Firestrike X9060 @OC 1130 by 1350 Firestrike X9190 @OC 1135 by 1350 Firestrike X9134 @OC 1200 by 1400 Firestrike X8730 I would also like to mention that the cards were all running at +50 PowerTune by +100mv Core and at no time did the clocks dip nor did the GPU ever go above 52C. CPU and Ram were consistent as control. @4.0 GHZ and @2400MHZ CL10 respectively. Thank you.

Ok, in Australia The R9 290 XFX Black Edition is the same as the Galaxy GTX 780. ($600) I was wonder which card would suit me best, I would be playing games such as Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Metro LL etc.. ATM I am using a 1080p display but in a few months I will be upgrading to 1440p. Would the R9 290 4GB Frame buffer suit me better? Or the GTX 780 Superior overclocking skills. Thanks, Nathan. Hello everyone, so to start with, i build my first PC quite a while ago and decided to upgrade some of the parts (case, gpu, and add some leds) i went from thermal take tsunami dream to zalman z11 plus and from radeon HD5850 (ref) to Asus R9 270x dciiT and after few months i decided to upgrade again, BUT to higher end parts, so again i thought i want watercooling i love the look of Corsair H100i but unfortunately the zalman case is no compatible with this cooling without modding but even with the mod it looks bad, so i told myself lets build *new pc. and here is the help that i need, i need peoples opinion. my current build. case: Zalman Z11 plus mobo: Asus M5A97pro CPU: AMD phenom II x6 1100t CPU cooling: Scythe mugen 4 (i think) RAM: gskill sniper 8GB 1600 GPU: Asus R9 270x DCIITop PSU: Xigmatek 700w Tauro Monitor: 23" ViewSonic VP231wb (1920:1200)(back 7 years ago it was worth around 3,000$ but now it sucks performance wise) and i would like to build case: NZXT h440 (green) GPU: XFX R9 290 DD CPU: AMD FX8350 (not sure if worth upgrading from old one) CPU cooling: Corsair H100i (pushpull cfg.) RAM: not sure if worth upgrading if so then some Corsair 8-16gb mobo: if not upgrading cpu then i dont think mobo upgrade is needed but if so im stuck somewhere between Asus sabertooth 990FX R2.0 and Asus Crosshair IV formula (any suggestions?) PSU: should i upgrade or not ? this is the questions is 700w enough ? Monitor: 27" Asus VG278HE HD 144hz or a 27" BenQ XL2720Z (which one is better option) so guys, is it worth it ? please help. ps. im new to the forum sorry if it is in the wrong department, and also sorry for my English. Thanks Alot !
