Hi. So, I was at my parents place, and noticed that their wifi signal was gone in one end of the house and completely fine in the other end. They have their router from the internet company installed in the furthest away corner. I talked to them about setting up an access point, and remembered LTT had a review of the Upiquiti access point. To me it seems like a solid product that can run without much maintenance after installation. I know how to set it all up. That is no issue.. My issue is I don't know if there is any traps or steps I have to be aware of setting up the software for the internet.? Is there a good guide out there, or do you guys have any advice for me? thanks. ps. sorry for bad english, I'm danish

Hello, I've been thinking about setting multiple acces points (ubiquiti) in my house. However, I don't have ethernet/utp-cables running in my house/through my walls. So i'll have to use powerline adapters. I don't like this solution because it's very clunky, I need 2 outlets and doesn't perform that well. Is there any other solution or does something like an acces point inside a powerline (or vice versa) exist ? Thank you very much for replying !

This Week i have been moving my over 100 Gigabytes on files from my main PC to a Laptop using Window's File Sharing. Using a Hard Disk to USB is not an option for me, the adapter i have is quite slow, So i decided to transfer files via local network using a D-Link Router (DIR-610N+). First i tried to transfer the files using Wifi then i realized that even though i am sitting next to the Router it only uses 25% of my laptop WiFi Adapter (Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g) according to taskmanager this card is capable of handeling 54 Mbps (6.75 Megabytes) and i was using only 25% (1.68 Megabytes). So i decided to use the Ethernet port in my latptop that according to taskmanager is capable of handeling 100 Mbps and in this case it uses 100% of the Network Card. I would like to Know if it is possible to use all the potential of my Wifi Adapter, What would i have to do? , What is causing the 25% use of the card? THis is what my Laptop Has Windows 7 Ultimate WiFi Adapter: Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g And my "Router" is a D-Link Router (DIR-610N+) But i am open to hear stories where you were able to use all the potential of your wifi adapter.

From experimenting I wrote a couple methods to help detect whether a point was in a set of three vertices. It works a little but not really. It doesn't seem to give false-positives but it does often won't recognize while the point is in the triangle (kinda random). I think what I did would work in theory but due to the behavior of floating point values it's horribly inconsistent. My question is whether anyone knows or can point me to an easier more consistent way of accomplishing this.

Hi all, I've got a shed that has an an ethernet cable wired through to the house and I would like to set up a more reliable wifi signal down there. I've got two options: buy something cheap and use it in the shed, or buy something decent and use it in the house, moving the AP in the house to the shed. There are a few laptops and phones connected to the wifi in the house but nothing is particularly heavy use - though personally I'd like my laptop to be able to transfer files across the network at more than a few megabytes per second if it's not too expensive. The AP we have is fine, just not brilliant; BT HomeHub 5 used as an AP not as a router. If I go with the cheap option, I'd be looking at spending £30 or less. For expensive, I'd probably cap at about £100 as I don't use wifi too much myself - but may think about using Nvidia GameStream over wifi in the future. In summary: AC or N? Dual band or single band? Any brands to avoid, any brands to go for? Thanks.

I want to build a PC for my friend that can run these parameters: -Can record Minecraft at 1080p60fps -Record Minecraft at 1080p60fps with Minecraft at maxuim settings (w/OptiFine maxuim) -Can record record CS:GO at maxuim settings at 1080p60fps -Whilst recording at 1080p60fps i should have greater than or equal to 60fps (with maxuim settings) -While recording at 1080p60fps at maxuim settings with greater than or equal 60fps w/ a program like Chrome of Skype open What is the cheapest price for JUST the tower? Anyway, so I just recently started to learn photoshop for a hobby, and since it has something to do with photos, I figured I might as well learn photography, right? Now, since I'm just starting to learn, you should already know I'm not a pro when it comes to these photography stuffs. In fact, I haven't took any "real" photos before in camera, just in phones, sooooo ye~~~ah... Here's what I'm kinda looking for: -Long battery life -Can take RAW image (also can take great photos oviously) -(Optional) Can take a descent HD video -Can take good low light image So far, I have 2 cameras in mind... -Canon EOS M3 -Nikon 1 J5 I also kinda like the Nikon D3300 but it's kinda bulky and big. But if many of you prefer that over the other 2, I might go with D3300 instead (coz it's also in the same price range). Hello , my project is that , Can i have my ps3 as an access point? What i have done until now : 1st i connect my Desktop with a wifi usb stick , then i connected my Desktop with my router in the other room , Everything ok 2nd i connected my ps3 with ethernet from one side and from the other side of the ethernet i connected with my desktop , Everything ok 3rd in desktop i make a bridge connection to my wireless and wired connection , so the ps3 has internet from my desktop , Everything ok 4th my ps3 has internet this way and Everything ok 5th i set some options from remote play and other connection and network options from ps3 so the ps3 WLAN can be find in any device as a WIFI , and i set up my ssid and password name etc of PS3 , now the problem is that im trying to connect from my phone , and it connects like forever and never gets the internet access, and when i connect from other device like a laptop it says "LIMITED NETWORK" WHAT CAN I DO? P.S. sorry for my english if they are bad

Hi, I have been looking at outdoor access points to expand my wifi network into the garden. I have seen this access point on Amazon : LINK and wondered if this would work for my network. I have a ADSL router which has WiFi turned on, and a second router which has the network cable plugged into the LAN port, so it is acting as an access point not a router. This setup works really well. Would it be possible to connect the linked outdoor access point up to my network and use it to get improved coverage in my garden? Would this improve the speeds and range of my iPads, iPhones and computers? The reason I ask this is because will my iPad be able to transmit far enough for the access point to be able to pick it up? Hey guys, I'm looking to watercool my rig by the end of this year. I have some questions for you regarding pumps, reservoirs and things. Firstly, I know a couple of people who tend to stay away from front bay reservoirs for one reason or another. I can imagine filling one might be tricky due to the nature of how it is situated (can anyone tell me if that's true?). I also know there are pump/front bay res combos, which I've also heard of people not liking so much. I do know that tubing runs to the front bays don't look so nice, but I may end up being restricted for space for a res by radiators when I plan out my build more. Next, is there a great deal of point in using dual pumps for redundancy. I know Linus has one pump in his rig that has been going for ages, so can someone recommend an uber-reliable pump for me? Hi guys, Recently, bad things have been happening to some servers I help manage. Specifically, each of the servers, which had a RAID 5 array in them, had a faulty HDD (and things went sour from there). Well, these 3 servers were managed by both me and one other person. I was learning how to manage them after he had built each of them over time. Of the people who used them, only he and I were able to actually fix them in terms of hardware or coordination (i.e. how one interacted with another) related issues because we knew how they were set up. Unfortunately, a second HDD developed faults on the primary of those 3 servers. When we went to replace one of the faulty drives in it (which we should have much earlier anyway), for whatever reason, the RAID array broke. It wouldn't replicate, and bad times were had. However, in all this, I believe the problem, in terms of management, of these servers was simply that there was only 1 person who actively coordinated and fixed them (until I came along and learned some). While he was keeping them all running, he was trying out new features that he hadn't used before on Windows 2k8. Such as DFS Replication, Remote Profiles, among other things. Although he never got them fully working. I personally believe DFS Replication wouldn't work because the drives were failing redundancy (due to the faulty drives in each server). However, I can't be sure. Well, due to all these features being slightly implemented, but not really, backups were not being done correctly between the 3 servers. They weren't replicating with one another. So, when the primary one failed, the other two only had outdated files on them. Which isn't a good thing, obviously. We had 4 different kinds of backups set up, but none worked because one would fail while the other didn't, so we had to keep moving files around to get things working. Fortunately, our "last resort" backup, which was nothing but a batch file, and a network connection to a JBOD server, actually had a fairly recent backup of our primary server, so we weren't completely boned. Just remember, for those of you out there who do manage multiple servers for whatever reason, never do things half-way, and make sure there are enough people to actively manage the servers and keep up maintenance on them, otherwise it won't matter how much redundancy you have. It will all fail inevitably if no one maintains it. I know. It should be common sense. But hey, sometimes when you are building big things, the tiny details get lost along the way. Hello possibly picking up the Razer Tiamat 7.1 and I just wanted some opinions on the headset also would be nice to hear about any one who has used the 2.2 model with 2 sub-woofers built in to the headset. Personally I think the device will have the best sound quality available for a current headset.
